WI. French Canadians on Anticosti Island

What events would have to take place for the French speakers of Quebec to end up as a independent nation on the Canadian Island of Anticosti?.

Plus what name would they call their nation, other than Quebec?, i'm thinking of something like "REPUBLIC OF ACADIA"

Regards filers

Would the entire French-Canadian population be concentrated on Anticosti or would this just be one of several communities? Not sure how realistic the former would be.

I think it's about as hospitable as the Newfoundland interior. So there's not much ability to survive.

I dont think that the entire French Canadian population relocating to Anticosti Island to form an independent nation is anyway realistic, but there are other alternatives. I have always believed that one of the ways to comprimise with the French Quebecois nationalists and separatists on having an independent state and homeland in which to live in a totally French society based on French Language and Laws is what I call population transfere. What I mean by population transfere is this, I believe that the French Quebecois separatists and nationalists can be persuaded to relocate from Quebec to Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Island and the populaiton of both Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Island can be persuaded to relocate to Quebec. The islands of Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Island can be both combined to establish a 100% French monolingual and monocultural province of the Dominion of Canada or it can be either made and independent nation or even transfered to the control of the Republic of France. I believe that Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Island can be merged to form a what I call either the Province of Acadia as part of the Dominion of Canada, the Department of Acadia as part of the Republic of France or even an independent naiton called the Republic of Acadia.

A French Quebecois and even a French Acadian homeland in the islands of Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Island is very possible because of the fact that combined territory of both islands could sustain and house 2.000.000 to 4.000.000 French Quebecois and Acadians. The combined territory of Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Island is about 6.171 Sq Miles and a combined populaiton of about 276.178 people. You may think that the combined area of Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Island is too small to sustain and house 2.000.000 to 4.000.000 French Canadian separatists and nationalists comfortably and sustainable, but lets take Long Island, New York as away of looking at this. The area of Long Island, New York is about 1.401 Sq Miles with a populaiton of about 7.686.912 people. So if 7.686.912 people can live in Long Island New York with an area of about 1.401 Sq Miles quite comfortably and sustainable then about 2.000.000 French Canadian separatists and nationalist can comfortably and sustainable in both Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Island with a combined area of about 6.171 Sq Miles. The area of Long Island New York is almost 23% of the land area of both Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Island combined.

In my oppion the hypothetical Province of Acadia (Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Island) can be made to be the homeland for French Canadians who don't want to live in an English society and not to have listen and hear the English Language and to obey English Common Law in the Dominion of Canada. The Province of Acadia would have it's own Bill 101 (Charter of the French Language) and Bill 22 (Official Language Act) which would state that the official language of the Province of Acadia would be French and that the officla legal system of the Province of Acadia would be French Civil Law. So once this hypothetical Province of Acadia has been established then what should happen to the Province of Quebec is to have an English version of Bill 101 (Charter of the English Language) and Bill 22 (Official Language Act) which would state that the official language of the Province of Quebec would be English and the official legal system of the Province of Quebec would be English Common Law. Just think about a hypothetical Province of Acadia (Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Island) is just the right place for a 100% French Society in North America is because the Province of Acadia would be located on 2 mid sized islands not connected to the English mainland bu exept for 2 bridges and it would enable the French Canadian anti-English and anti-Canada crowd to seal themselves of from the English Dominion of Canada free to live how they want to live from Canadian (English) interference. This is the best solution for the never ending separatism and language fascism problem with in the Province of Quebec. A separation of the Province of Quebec from the Dominion of Canada would essentially split the naiton into 2 and thefore is not logical. The Dominion of Canada must be kept in 1 piece and not be split into in effect a Western Canada and an Eastern Canada. The French Canadian separatists and nationalists should be told that they can have a French homeland in Canada but they can't have that homeland in the Province of Quebec but in Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Island. A French homeland in Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Island will not split the Dominion of Canada into 2 and would keep the Dominion of Canada as a nation from sea to shinning sea. There is more than enough land for French Canadian separatists and nationalists in both Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Island form them to live a comfortable and sustainable life.

Tell me your oppions of my idea?

SO the original expulsion of the Acadians wasn't enough, you'd like that that tragedy be compounded with the creation of an offshore Bantustan for their inland cousins? This is just sick and disturbing

Relocating all the French-Canadians to PEI and Cape Breton makes more sense than the last hundred ideas I heard from Quebec separatists. I may have grown up in Quebec, but by age 20 had heard too much b.s. .... political naïveté from separatist politicians, so I moved out.

I don't think a relocation post-1800 is possible, though if you were to transfer most of the population immediately after the French cede Canada to the British could be possible. Back then about 44,000 people lived in Canada, while the Maritimes were home to about 13,000 people (Cape Breton specifically had about 4,000 people, PEI had only 500).

Now if one were to propose the transfer of all Acadians to Cape Breton and PEI, that'd boost the population by almost 200% (it'd be roughly 288% of the original population, FYI) and I think the islands could sustain that even in the 1760s. Now with the Canadians comes a problem. Most of them didn't live in the cities, they lived simple lives as self-sustaining farmers. And for that there isn't just enough room on the two designated islands if you've put 9,000 extra people on there. The islands could probably also accommodate about 1/3 of the Canadian population (about 15,000) at the time as well, though then you'd mostly need city dwellers who can make a living without having too much space available to them. And even then the islands will definitely be dependant on foreign food imports... 'cause feeding 30,000 mouths isn't a piece of cake after all.

Endorsing ethnic cleansing, whether of Quebec separatists or of the Anglo population of Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Island, is not welcome on this board. You didn't explicitly state that this scheme would involve forced relocation, but it seems pretty clear that it would have to.

More to the point, it's not a discussion of counterfactual history, it's an endorsement of a contemporary crackpot scheme. That's not what this board is for.

You're kicked for a week, during which time you'll be unable to post. Please keep in mind what this board is for when you return.

The English are experts when it comes to ethnic cleansing and genocide (Acadians, Boers, Native Americans, Black people, Aborigines...). So this scenario is plausible. They just need to kill a big proportion of the population.

No it's not, because French Canadian loyalty, or even ambivalence/acceptance, was key to holding the Canadian colonies. Trying to kill them/relocate them would cause more problems than it'd solve.
