Liberal Party remains united, and wins 1918 election?

what if the british liberal party had remained united (no shell crisis, and Asquith remains PM, with DLG running the war effort under him), and won the 1918 election?

Asquith would probably step down by 1921-22, then DLG woujld presumably become Liberal leader

anyone else?

Best chance of this is Asquith's death, ideally by enemy action.

This allows Lloyd George to take office without annoying other Liberals

Lloyd George, the 'man who won the war' leads party to victory

but what if asquith had survived as PM, with Lloyd George become chancellor and minister of munitions, effectively running the war while asquith runs the country?

How though? Lloyd-George did not like Asquith's management of the war, and neither did Bonar Law and his Conservatives, aside from which, DLG had the ambition to be Caesar. With the backing of the Conservatives, DLG only required a minority of his fellow Liberals to overthrow Asquith. Asquith was frankly a fair-weather leader, totally unsuited for a wartime role, or for mixing it in a Machiavellian struggle with the Welshman.

well save that for another thread

the question is what would happen if the scenario I suggested occurred, what would happen to Ireland? what would happen to the economy? what would the cabinet look like?

what would happen to Ireland?

You'd have a couple of different signatures on the treaty from the British side, otherwise ostensibly the same. No coalition government means that Birkenhead, Chamberlain and Worthington-Evans are out, and are replaced by prominent Liberals instead. It is hard to see how any other agreement could have been reached though.

but an all liberal government would still be in favour of home rule, would the irish convention succeed?
