DBWI: More peaceful collapse of the Greater German Reich

1949 saw the beginning of one of the deadliest civil wars in human history, killing millions of people for no good reason. What if Germany hadn't violently dissolved into a civil war?

One POD I could see having the GGR dissolve more peacefully would be to have Hitler live past the Battle of France. Goering was an absolute terrible statesman, I swear.

(OOC: POD is Hitler dying before the Battle of Britain but after the Battle of France. Goering takes over soon after, which leads to a less-expansive WWII.)

Well, a PoD could be that Rudolf Hess had taken over instead of Goering- Hess was more focused on the Army, and would have placed more funding emphasis into a strong Army first, strong Air Force second. This would mean that Goering's money drainers never get made, and the branches don't unite to bring the Fuhrer down. Maybe it evolves into Italy and focuses more on bringing peace and consolidating it's position in Europe, as opposed to Goering's "Fuck everything" policy, although this wouldn't discount the possibility that Hess enacts that infamous 'Operation Barbarossa' file. I know it's taboo to bring it up and all (the 'dreaded of redhead' and all that), but it's not impossible that it could happen with someone as mad as Hess on the helm.

Maybe the Russians would have not spent years trying to hole down the land they took during the Civil War before giving up and going back home. One of the worst things Moscow did, especially when Die-hard Nazis use bio and chemical weapons on the Red armies. And the fact the USSR also sent more years dealing with rebels in Ukraine, Belarus, and the Baltic, thanks to German made weapons, and equipment from the GGR.

I'm still surprised Goering thought it'd be a good idea to fund a rebellion against the Soviets despite the fact that the USSR's raw exports were the only thing keeping the GGR afloat. I guess he must've really hated Stalin, even though they were in the same alliance for close to 8 years.

For one thing, post-Nazi Germany would most likely be a lot more intact than it was with the civil war. How would this affect Cold War Europe? I doubt NATO would be able to influence Western Germany in the way they did without the turmoil or decreased demographics.
