I was just wondering if it is acceptable to make pages detailing battles and wars for ATLs in the same way Wiki does for actual battles and wars.

there are a few examples in the photos from alternate worlds thread in the media section. dont know if you can edit the wiki to show it, it would be cool though.

If you mean the Wiki thing where it has all the nations and commanders lined up beneath a picture of the battle, I don't think our wiki software has the capability to actually do it with all the hyperlinks working and stuff; I have, however, done it for a couple of ones in LTTW where it's just an edited picture of the Wiki format: http://wiki.alternatehistory.com/doku.php/timelines/third_war_of_supremacy

I think it's just a picture to be entirely honest

It is. You could do it with MSPaint, in fact. ;)

Our wiki lacks useful templates, as the real wikipedia or the althist wiki at wikia.com has, unfortunately.
It could be possible to make such a table in our wiki too, but you might have to be good at wiki-/HTML-fu.

actually it could be pretty easy to do...
if you can isolate the section in the wiki article of a random battle, then copy and paste, then edit and change to what ever is necessary... it could be done.

in fact, i just managed to isolate the table.... mostly...
its not perfect... but its something. and it could be modified easily...
here is the text file saved in unicode.
if you wish to download it and see, then open the file and save as unicode. remove the file type by changing it to "all files" and add ".html" at the end of the file name.

im just curious... has the section of code that i've isolated useful? or is it in a wrong format?

I would use the battles/wars if it were in wiki format with workable hyperlinks. If there's a wikia.com wiki where this stuff works, why not redirect to there for the alt-hist wiki needs?

I'm not sure if their policy would allow us to do that, though. They might only allow published material, which considering that they would be the main directory for AH stuff, actually makes sense: they don't want to be swamped by entries that relatively few people will care about. Thande's "Third War of Supremacy" article, for instance. No offense meant, but why allow that (and other stuff) when the majority of people will be looking for things from a book they read? Why give them the infamous disambiguation page with forty-some options?

look a couple posts back. i isolated the wiki format for it directly from Wikipedia. use that in coordination with wiki page formats and you have the ability to create those pages

I'll give it a try.

if you use that coding, in combination with the coding for the wiki, it should work...
EDIT: save a copy of it in .txt and as a .html
this will allow you to isolate the sections of code that need to be changed. it does take a little work to do. but once done i guarantee you will have what you want.
