So I've finished the second book of this and....myeh. Its OK. Some problems though.
The future people come from is just stupid. Its post-11/9 paranoia extrapolated right up until 2020. Not at all a remotely plausible universe. Conscription re-introduced? Never ending war against jihadists who are a serious threat? ugh....
The references in it are horrible. And very forced in. At one point I remember there are two seperate Draka references within a few pages of each other- in completely different story threads. Obviously the writer just had draka on his mind that day.
The 1632 reference is about the only decent one that isn't so glaringly obviously force din.
And thats before we get to the proper plot of the books.
Quasi-enjoyable prole feed but not classics even as AH books go.
