You could argue that Rome Total War is an alt-History Game because you can decide how history goes. Just wanted to know if anyone used any mods for RTW, and wanted to see people empires.

Also, if this thread is out of place, then I apologize for it and won't do this type of thread again.

Why should this be out of place? RTW is Althist Media after all.

Back when it worked for me, I played EB, but I gave up Rome because I couldn't get it to work on my new computer. I was interested in the Metro and Naval mods for RTR, however.

I have used Rome Total Realism quite a bit, and it is quite good. The expanded map is great, along with the new units and factions.

Other, because I've never played the game.

I never downloaded any mod for myself. On a friend's computer I tried EB, and it was cool.

I've never downloaded a mod for RTW, I've always wanted to try EB or RTR, though.

I really enjoy EB, but it is so damned buggy. I've given up for the moment as you get tired of restarting the game, but would be right back into it if the bugs were killed and the CTDs fixed permanently.

I have been playing it for a few weeks, and the version of it that I have: EB 1.1 on RTW 1.5, seems to not be very buggy anymore. I have only had one CTD with EB.

I've played both EB and RTR, and I prefer EB. I never had much issue with bugs or crashes, but I'm patient about these sorts of things and may have just forgotten smaller problems. Only thing I didn't like about either of them was that since unit recruitment was on a regional basis with little in the way of 'core universal' troops, custom battle unit picking was annoying because you had to filter through everything to get just the relatively Greek units, Italian units, or Thracian units, etc.

EB, its a totally different game, much more realistic unit recruitment, buildings and just about everything

So you can recruit more then one unit pro 6 months?

Since we are talking about RTW mods I feel obligated to mention http://www.thefourthage.org (http://www.thefourthage.org/) since I helped them a bit ages ago. Sure, it is fantasy, but it is a blast to play if you are leaning in that direction ;)

If you start EB up in Multiplayer mode it is alot easier to get faction specific units in custom battle.

I've played mostly RTR but have recently downloaded the v1.1 of EB and I have to say I'm liking it.

I think I like EB a little more as it has that real historical flavor but RTR might be a more accessible mod for most folks.

So I'd recommend this for most players.

A few vanilla games of RTW (just to get a feel for tactical battles if you've never played any TW games and to become familiar with where everything is located), then load up RTR (v6 last I heard is the latest) and go to town, but if you are looking for some real challenge and an even more historical feel then migrate over to EB.

The thing I like about EB is really the multitude of 'independent' cities/tribes that are not pushovers. It is always a bit sucky that in vanilla or even RTR that by the time I barely got out of Italy as the Romans three or four factions had been eliminated, and the 'independent' regions have almost been completely steamrolled. And it is not like I sit in Italy putzing around either.
