For those of you that have access to it, I point out that the September 2003 issue of History Today (vol.53, no.9) has a short articled titled:

What if Napoleon had Landed? by John Cookson.

Yeah I read that 1 at a newsagent, Dave. Quite intriguing, seems to indicate that IIRC Napoleon might've been able to invade across the Channel although the odds re the RN were generally stacked against him.
