Well, SAT I scores anyone? (For those of you who are old enough to remember/have taken them)
If you took the old test (the one with only Math and Critical Reading), just use the average of your math and CR scores for your Writing one.
Formula for score: Math + C.Reading + (Math+C.Reading)/2 = Total Score
Example:
700 Math
500 C. Reading
Equation...
700 + 500 + (700 + 500)/2 = 1800

1430 when it was still on the 1600 scale but after it was re-centered. It was in the 96th percentile of college bound seniors.
By your method 680 + 750 + (680 + 750)/2 = 2145.
I would calculate it (math + verbal) * 1.5 :D
The sections were called math and verbal when I took it. Of course, then we had 9 planets and 5 kingdoms.

I thought I had really good scores.
But then, I was in sixth grade and hadn't studied, so...

Quite a disparity you have there.
