... or should I start one?
Because I occasionally see people making a post including that information. But then only the people who have been following that particular thread know about it, and other people go to the Hall of Infamy and ask if they were banned, or where they are.
So, I thought about the above idea. Should I start a thread entirely devoted to "just letting you know I'll be off the forum for x long, because y reason"? If so, where should it go?

simply vanish when you feel like it and then count how many people asked "has anybody seen ________________?". I do that sometimes.

Heh heh.. that could work.
Seriously though. Any interest in such a thread? It would mean people could give notice easily if they are, say, going on holiday, or just won't be around for whatever reason.

Why would you need to?
If you have especial friends you PM them. If you're working on some anorak TL you inform the viewing anoraks of the hiatus.

Any thread posted will invariably wander onto something else. So if on Page 1 Jeff says he's off for a fortnight to blow up the Vatican, we'll not notice by Page 4, when there's a discussion about how penis length relates to how many pairs of gloves one owns.
Four or five, I think. :D
