Would anybody consider this piece of WWII fiction an AH work, or at least possessing certain AH elements in the plot revolving around a planned German commando team's assassination of Hitler ?

It's AH in the same way as "The three musketers", or any fiction book. The main problem is that action and POD of such stories don't lead to any different ATL.

Wasn't it Churchill they were trying to kill?

Anyway, yeah, it's close, but obviously not a full AH story....

Thanks for the correction, Matt, I meant Churchill. The story had the German commando leader (played by Michael Caine in the movie) kill Churchill's double, I recall.

Yeah, and in the book Kurt Steiner(?) gets shot before he can pull the trigger.... I prefer the film version...
