Hi All ,

Does any body knowwhat are or were the largest birds in Europe,

The only ones I know are the Albatross and Kormorant.

The reason I'm asking is I'd like a list so that I can name aircraft types after them in on of my TL's

Thanks in advance. :o :o

Well, we do have eagles in Europe, at least some. In Germany, one of the largest is the "Steinadler" ("Adler" is eagle and "Stein" is stone, but don't ask me what it is called in English).

There also is the "Uhu", the largest European owl. And of course the "Storch" (stork), actually a plane was named after it in WW2. Furthermore, we have various kinds of heron ("Reiher").

sikitu is really naming the big ones. But planes would rather be the good flyers, wouldn´t they?

falcons-lots of them
hawks, gohawks

The most distinguished might be the kite, blackand red

I'm actually after the large ones as the plane Iwant to name will be Transport / Bomber variants.

Stork is the largest I think. But the plane sikitu mentioned was the slowest in WW2. Was very famous for his abilities to start and land on a short ground.
Got his name from his "legs"
Heron is the symbol of Lufthansa.
Would be good,I think :)
Oh, there are no albatrosses in europe! and teh european kormaoran is not that big.
Good luck!

sorry, that i have to come bac again, but I mixed up heron and crane.
Crane is the symbol for the lufthansa!!!!

And, finally, the largest bird in europe is the bustard, as otis tarda might know very well!! (mayby not the best name for an aeroplane though :D )

Don't forget the birds that live on water - swans and geese are both pretty large !

Off the top of my head I've forgotten what the Me 262 was named after ?

According to Wikipedia, it's the ME 262 Swallow. Then again Wikipedia is made up of ametuer writers, but I'll take their word for it.

I confirm that, "Schwalbe" in German. If you want a really large bird, there also is one called "Trappe". Unfortunately, it cannot fly...;-))

By the way, what about mystical creatures such as Griffin ("Greif"), Pegasus or Dragon ("Drache")?
