Sequel to the original (http://www.alternatehistory.com/discussion/showthread.php?t=39266) awesome private contracting game. Site is here (http://www.mercs2.com/).

The factions have been somewhat revealed here (http://interviews.teamxbox.com/xbox/2012/Mercenaries-2-World-in-Flames-QA/p1/). I voice my discontent here (http://www.pandemicstudios.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7132). Discuss.
If you liked the first game and don't like the ridiculousness of the second, feel free to join the Pandemic boards and speak up.

Wasn't there a thread about 'tis already?

Aww, they took out the Deck of Cards :(

I thought they were also going to replace two of the mercs, but all three are back.

I don't know. I don't feel like joining the Pandemic boards right now, but I also find it strange that China is sending troops to Venezuela. It made perfect sense to have China in the first game, but I find it a bit ridiculous that they've sent troops all the way to South America simply for oil interests.

Then again, this is Mercs...you're expected to blow stuff up, why be logical?

How about 'peacekeeping force'?

only if china has the time to ship 350,000 troops to a area so far away.

There might be a better explanation in-game.

I actually just, er, online-previewed the Mercenaries 2 comic (http://www.atomiccomicsstore.com/274230.html) (I'm going to delete it afterwards, don't worry). Apparently the PRC somehow conquered Taiwan, and there are Taiwanese Freedom Fighters. The evil scarred Chinese colonel (he kind of looks like Two-Face) has a base in the National Palace Museum in Taipei. The Taiwanese resistance leader looks like a white guy who squints a lot.

what

Godmode is always fun. Besides, this is MERCENARIES, man. These guys can shrug off a few near-misses from a 105mm HE and still kickass while their health regenerates.:p

Point taken... although it was not as if I had not already had it on pre-order.

Heh, in Mercenaries 1, I would always order the sports car, call-in a fuel-air strike on my location and then get in the sports car and try too outrun the explosion...

Too this date I have always died.

It'd be really awesome if you succeeded. The problem is the slow-mo effect that comes as the FAE is released. Escaping carpet bombing is much easier (and devastatingly fun) - I remember doing it a couple of times outside of that North Korean missile base in the south map with a jeep. There's nothing like an incoming wall of fire from behind to provoke you to speed to the max and fly off a cliff.

Still, escaping an FAE zeroed in on your position is a bigger challenge.

That Scorpion... Oh sorry, 'Puma'... looks pretty nifty :)

Now if only you could pick up SA80s (The Venezuelans did use them for a while y'know :) ).

I just tried it... suffice to say, I escaped alive, but my sports car was another matter entirely.:(

Just got mah hands on the game. Some first impressions...

1) Trees are crushable. Even a normal civilian car can do the job, though motorbikes can't.

2) I think it can be said that the map is GTA: San Andreas-styled big. Maybe even bigger. I've unlocked only the starting bit, but damn its the size of Los Santos and the outskirts of San Fiero.

3) Calling for support is quite a hassle - ie having to buy (air strikes, munition packages, vehicles) or steal the damn things (air strikes), then will it be added into your stockpile collection first AND only then can you call them from there. And that's not counting how much fuel (steal-able) you have to spend to bring those goodies into the fray. I miss the good ol' PDA system.

4) Artillery strikes are beautiful. Their destruction is more focused and intense than in Mercs 1.

5) Buildings that spawn RPG-toting VZ troops are a pain in the arse. Arty strike or C4s do the job though.:p

6) Despite what's been said on the net, the AI is... just like in Mercs 1. Not too good, but not too bad either.

7) Playing as Jennifer Mui. Unlike in Mercs 1, she's lost her stealth touch but made up for it in Flash Gordon-style speed. Really handy when needing to retreat from Too Much Enemy Firepower, or brushing past them to make the kill from behind.

8) So far its just me dealing with the Universal Petroleum corporation, the Venezuelans and the People's Liberation Army of Venezuelan. No pirates, Chinese or Allied forces in sight yet.
