This is an idea that I've been developing for a while, but I can't completely flesh it all out on my own. So, I'm posting it here for people to sign up for. The link to the site devoted to it is here (http://unearth2762.wetpaint.com/), and you can sign up for provinces here. I have basic information on the provinces in North America and Europe, but not on any of the other ones. And before anyone asks, the provinces are created along population lines. So, I'll start off:
I claim The Sovereign Province of Massachusetts.

Could I have that big province in the NW (Not the Artic one!)? I'm debating what to name it though any suggestions?

Ah, I have some general information on that one. It is called Cascadia, and its capital is Edmonton. Other than that, it's up to you, my friend.

I'll take the province directly north of Massachusetts. I'll come up with a name later.

For ease, and since it was the dominant subdivision beforehand, I always referred to it as Quebec, and incidentally the largest city, the one I always used as its capital was Montreal. If you don't like that we can change it. Oh, and I'll also take this opportunity to post the world map, so we don't gobble up North America all at once. And also to let you know, Long Island is a separate province from New York.

The grey area at the top of the map is all one province, as is the entire South Pacific, and all Caribbean Islands other than Cuba and Hispaniola.

Well other than the fact that Atlantic Canada and northern New England are in the mix, it makes sense (Montréal is the second-largest city in Canada in OTL (3,316,615 in the city alone - does not count the metro area), after Toronto (4,753,120), but ahead of Halifax, Atlantic Canada's largest city (282,924); Montréal also outshines the largest cities in OTL in Maine (Portland, at 64,249), New Hampshire (Manchester at 109,691), and Vermont (Burlington at 38,889)). However, I think the capital should be relocated to Québec City (which is - other than the Spanish-held areas - the oldest city in North America) and I wouldn't mind a name change. The trouble is - I don't want to use the "Québec" name, but I don't know which name to use.

Hmm. Well the best name that I've found was Acadia, if you want to use that. You could also call it a whole host of historical names, like Nouvelle France, Nova Scotia, etc, etc. I suppose you could also name it after one of the native tribes. I only called it Quebec because it was the dominant member of the new province.

I see. However, for me, the problem with the name "Acadia" is that is describes the areas of northern Maine and the Maritimes (primarily Québec's Gaspé peninsula and the Iles-de-la-Madeleine, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick). However, though it only describes in OTL northern Labrador, I think I found a name that could work. It's Nunatsiavut - Inuktitut for "our beautiful land".

Shouldn't New England be a province to itself? I mean, Quebec is big enough. You could throw the Maritimes intoeither one for good measure.
Anyway, I'll take the province of Long Island... which owns all of NYC, yes?

It ownd Brooklyn and Queens, and all points east. Manhattan and the Bronx go to New York, and Staten Island goes to New Jersey.
@Locke: I based this solely off of population. The world is divided into relatively equal population. That's why it looks so balkanized. You can PM me some changes if you'd like, but we'll see how it goes.

I want to add to the wiki, but I have a couple of questions first:
a) What tech level do we have?
b) How much power does the Planetary goverment have versus the provincial goverment?
c)What is the provincial goverment like? Do they all follow a central plan or is it up to us?
d) what is a parlimentary superditrict?

A. We're talking far in the future, so Earth is FTL-capable. It is also a member world in the Orion Republic, so they benefit from that as well.
B. The planetary government has considerable power compared to the UN today. The Earth government is a bit like the modern system in countries like Ireland or Australia. It does have a Prime Minister and a President. It also has a Council of Governors and then a lower house in the parliament called the Council of Representatives.
C. As long as the government of the province is loyal to the planetary government, it's up to you.
D. A parliamentary superdistrict is an extra level of organization, much like a county is between a city and its home state in the United States. They have limited power in this time though.

Well I mean an OTL map. Then I can put in the correct divisions, and post it, then we can start claiming areas on that map as well.

Thanks, but I need internal divisions in the countries, and the map itself should be a bit bigger. Probably BAM/PAM sized.

Cool. I have no pre-existing information on them, but Taiwan I believe has a couple of adjoining islands.
