Is it possible for a serious disease to sweep across the globe following WW2's conclusion? What would the effects be?

Well, the Germans and the Japanese were both experimenting with weaponised versions of bubonic plague and similar; I suppose they could have used them at defeat in 1945 as a doomsday weapon on their own people to infect as many Allied troops as possible? (Quite James Bondian, I admit).

that seems least likely since sanitary habits keep diseases at best localized. plausible fear is blight of crops.
