For some reason this popped into my head on the train this afternoon:
2008: Republican
2012: Christian Socialist
2016: Christian Socialist
2020: Libertarian

Considering that the Libertarians are currently the largest 3rd party with the most people in political office of all of the 3rd parties, and as far as I know the Christian Socialists didn't really run a candidate this year, how will they go to be a powerhouse in 4 years to take the Presidency?

As I didn't know there really were Christian Socialists until a quick google while writing this I'll leave that up to you. This started with someone here saying the Democrats should stake a claim on the moral and religious high ground.

I was suggesting that the Democrats should attempt to work rhetoric comforting to the evangelical population into their platform. I think that, given the quintessentially liberal nature of Christ's message, they have a strong chance of taking evangelical votes away from the Republicans. The advantage of this is that it would eliminate the evangelicals as a monolithic voting bloc, and force the Republicans to adopt more inclusive rhetoric to attract both liberal and conservative evangelicals, rather than simply appealing to the extremists and taking the rest of the evangelical vote for granted.
At least, it seemed to be a good idea at the time.
