It was fun. The project is in a better place now.

I only watched it occasionally, but I would have liked to see it continue on for a while.

Unfortunately, without Glan, this project had passed on.

*says a prayer and a moment of silence to mark this event*

it shall be missed.

it fostered a sense of comraderie and community within the larger AH.COM community.

Indeed it shall be.

And on that fateful day
A deep silence spread o'er AH.com
The members knelt down to pray
For it had died in inactivity, 1493....

Hey, I'm up for writing revised events for the Ming and the Timurid Empire if we can get a group of RP'ers to proof read and ok additions to the TL. Drop me a PM if you'd like to help out with this idea.

No, let it die in dignity.

Alas, real life required me to basically quit 'cold turkey' AH.com for a time. I've been having to write like a fiend in the real world, and unfortunately this fine project died in the process.

Someday, maybe something similar will come to be.....

I think a lot of the material we've written is salvageable. Perhaps a few changes on how it's run, and 1493 2.0 could be a real possibility.

I think a lot is salvagible as well, though I can't even contemplate trying to tackle that at present.

To do so we would need a lot of assistance. I wouldn't be able to do as much fact checking as was unfortunately necessary. Also people really would need to submit their entries properly edited so they could just be inserted into the timeline and not need rewriting.

Still, someday, someday....

It is too bad this thread/idea died in your absense, I realy liked the project.
Anyway, welcome back.

I second that.

here here! who thinks we should revive this game?

I do, but I need a lot more help to do so than last time! I need people to really watch their own facts and plausibility, I need people to help with mapmaking, updating, and editing.

I'd also like to such in some of our resident experts on various regions of the world to provide constructive criticism.

I'd be up for reviving this. I feel like I'd be better suited to playing Carpathia now than I was before. After all, I have learned quite a lot since first joining this site.

Yes, there is a steep learning curve on the site!:D

Again, the big thing is we need the participants to be much more responsible for vetting and editing their posts for realism and consistancy with OTL (at least until we've had about 60 years of divergence, after which we will start to have more freedom of action), and I need a lot more assistance in editing and troubleshooting the project en toto. I can keep it going and on an even keel overall, but I can't scrutinize every single entry. It might also be good if we could recruit some of our more knowledgable members of the board to give critiques to our draft elements.

I'd also love to resurrect this. The were a couple of problems on how things were split up which same in the way of the project running smoothly. Having each user claim and control a nation turns the project into a game, bringing along competition and 'winners/losers'. I think the second time around, each users should be in charge of a region (e.g. Italies, Iberia, British Isles etc.), and be responsible for both plausible internal events, and plausible interactions with other regions.

There is that tendency towards gamesmanship. On the otherhand, making users in charge of regions doesn't solve that. Having anyone able to post anything is a bit better, but people still have conflicting visions and can take on a gamelike dimension.

I would like to keep somewhat people with dedicated areas of control so that there is some depth of knowledge and yet some conflict.

However, maybe we could do more of a hybrid? Have someone overall responsible for the areas, but allow anyone to post events that the area editor will either accept or reject.

This would need further thought and comment.

a big part of the problem that I personally had was when someone jumped in late and tried to change things that had already been written instead of working within the framework that had been set up (had this problem with Russian/Polish stuff) if we could workout rules that kept ppl from going back and changing things when they jump in, it would work a lot better. and I'm all for reviving the TL.....I'd like to contiune my Russian Hegemony :D

They couldn't really change things by fiat, the problem was there were a lot of things that we initially posted that had plausibility issues which were not caught quickly.

I'd really like to see the project continue also. I got a little wanky with the Muisca, but than again, I'd never been part of one of these things.

Its amazing how you can learn about the processes of history, when you see some curveballs. Rather than just vomiting up names and dates.

Please send me a message if it happens.

I'm still catching up at work. We'd need to get more organized before proceding.
