View Full Version : 2008 - Clinton/Obama v Schwarzenegger/Bush

After 4 more years of Bush-Cheney, here's a slightly tongue in cheek prediction for the 2008 race, though its nowhere near impossible

I suspect a constitutional amendment to make foreign-born citizens eligible to run for the presidency could be in the pipeline

The Democratic ticket, after 4 years of civil strife, would be for a woman and a black guy

In contrast the Republicans after 4 years of extremist religious right rule would be looking for a more moderate populist, and in Arnie they have one. And then they'll tack on Jeb to keep the dynasty in power and protect the oil interests

Schwarzenegger will never be President, he's married to a Kennedy.

to join both partys in one person (?) might be the optimal solution

You know, that's why I'd vote for him. If I could have Schwarzenegger over Kerry or Bush, I'd rejoice in ecstatic rapture.

Hmm....I could see that happening.

While I would have to admit his policy stances are attractive to me, I will never vote for anyone who can't stop using the same five quotes from his own movies, and even more frequently, quotes a Saturday Night Live parody, of him. It's just too embarrassing.

I think that we may have to consider Rick Santorum as a possibility in 2008. He's youthful, attractive, and he will bring out the Evangelicals in droves, probably to a greater extent even than Bush. Plus, the news media and the other senators keep talking about the possibility of a run, which is always a good indication. Arlen Spector, who is generally considered to be a moderate Republican, said that he'd endorse Santorum for president.

While Jeb Bush is not presidential material, his son George H. Bush (the Ricky Martin of the Republican Party) is. I imagine that he is being groomed to run for the presidency at some point in the next ten or twenty years - probably around the same time as Barack Obama. Perhaps he could be the VP on a Santorum ticket.

No, I'm not joking. People are spreading the word about Santorum (http://www.spreadingsantorum.com/). Santorum is pretty much on every Republican's lips.

In all seriousness, Santorum is one of the stronger candidates that the Republicans have for future elections. I'm not saying this because he's a nice guy but because he really does represent the fresh-faced future of the Republican party. In my humble opinion, that isn't a good thing for the Republicans.

That having been said, if Santorum were to announce his candidacy, I would drop everything and race to campaign for him. I want the Republican party to foist Santorum on the nation even more than the most hardened Republican wants to see hopeless cases like Hillary or Joe Lieberman run (and you know that they love it when we bicker about these things). Santorum has the best chance of splitting the Republican party right down the middle. A vigorous (but ultimately failed) Santorum candidacy might set the Religious Right back 20 years. If he succeeds, he'll galvanize moderates and liberals in a way that Bush hasn't.

Why do you think Jeb Bush is not Presidential material? Would anyone have thought W was?

Anyway, I would vote for Arlen Specter, just because I think it would be cool to have a President Specter, especially since we narrowly missed the chance to have one this week.

Kind of reminds me of the power struggle that led to Gorbachev - his principal opponent was Romanov, the victory of which would have been irony on a pretty large scale.

Jeb has flat out said that he wouldn't run in 2008. Plus, he's just not inspiring. He seems like a nice guy, but not as charismatic as Dubya.

I read something Arlen Spectre said yesterday and it seemed rather intelligent and thus likely to be completely ignored by Bush in the doing

I am guessing you are saying you almost had a president spectre because Kerry would have been JFK ?

P.S. I am glad you remember Romanov (was he Agriculture ?), I was beginning to think my memory had made the whole thing up
