The GoTS TL might be interesting, primarily because I wouldn't mind seeing the technological development of eighty years following the South African incursion.

RMG:
The Race: From Harry Turtledove's WorldWar and Colonization series, about a race of alien lizards invading Earth at the height of WWII. Continues on into the 1960s. Good idea, long-winded execution.
The Draka: From a series by S.M. Stirling, about a really nasty slave-owning race of supermen who start out in South Africa and eventually conquer the world. First book in the series is 'Marching Through Georgia'. The original trilogy is collected in the hardcover volume titled 'The Domination'. Creepy idea, uneven execution.
************************************
I'd like to see the Race invade the world of 'Archangel', by Mike Conner. For those not familiar with it, 'Archangel' takes place in Minnesota in the early 1930s, about 15 years after the massive plague that ended WWI. Neat catch - black people are immune to it.
I wonder how the Race would react to finding massive areas of land practically depopulated - would they feel the need to enslave the remaining humans, or would they have a 'you stay in you area, I'll stay in mine' mentality?

You're thinking of one of those Next Generation wusses. Kirk would've phasered the males at first sight then shagged the females.

here's a thought... have them land on the intelligent dinosaur world of Harry Harrison's West of Eden trilogy. What would the Race think of the Yilane? I think they'd probably like them. Would the two species unite in reptilian brotherhood, or would the Race have to conquer them? The Race would have the edge, with their mechanical technology; the Yilane bio-based tech is pretty low power in comparison....

David: A great idea. Actually I wonder if the Race and those uppity primates might find common cause against the truly creepy Ylane. After all, the Race will want the warm parts of the world inhabited by those awful slimy enzyme digesting female dominated moasosaur-descended wierdos for themselves. Humans, who are a lot more like the Race in their basic culture, would be very useful allies and who wants to live where it's cold anyway.

Though Kirk had a knack for talking robots and computers to death.

The FTL I just posted on the What happened here? thread would be interesting for them to invade. Would the Race ally with RRP USA and/or the EU against the Pan-Arab Caliphate and the Public States of China? Or would it just attack all humans outright?

I deeply object to this false criticism of Capt. James T Kirk! He does not talk robots, androids, and aliens to death. They simply prefer suicide over continuing the discussion.

He does convince them to kill themselves, suprisingly well.

One thing I have always wanted is the Race to meet up with one of the Command and Conquer timelines (Either the original C&C or the Red Alert branchoff). Granted, it would look pretty silly, but it would make an interesting mod.

How about the Race invading the Crazy Days ATL circa. 1967, three years after WWIII started (just like how the race invaded in 1942, three years after WWII started)? I'd imagine that the I.S.S.R would lose quickly, but China and the PAF would probably be overwhelmed as well.

a truly interesting world because of the nuclear factor....
Stalin
January 24th, 2004, 04:06 AM
What's interesting about the Crazy Days though is that due to the number of Superpower-nations the fear of MAD and Nuclear Destruction has increased, and made the actual use of nukes even more unthinkable. They actually managed to get through WWIII without a single mushroom cloud. But that could easily change if they had to deal with the Race...

on a note that ties this to AH fiction particulary Drakon, its mentioned that they found many dead earths in crosstime exploration. I bet they stumbled on a cluster of Crazy Days ATLs

Ouch. So how many variants of the Crazy Days ATL do you think exist where the world:
1. Loses cities to nukes?
2. Loses countries to nukes?
3. Loses Continents to nukes?
4. Loses the Human Race to nukes?
5. Loses all life in existence to nukes?

Well, aside from Nukes the Race is still going to have a lot to deal with. For example: Computers are more advanced in this ATL because the government invested more money in IBM, VR, and consumer-related research at universities in this ATL. Consequently the tech level by 1967 is about the same as 1982 in OTL: The Silicon chip was invented in 1955, Companies are linking computers together to share info, and the PC was created the same year the race arrived.

What if they just showed up 10 years later, in 1952, when jet aircraft have been developed but are still being worked on, and limited amounts of nuclear weapons are available. By this time, there should be a large number of veterans with combat experience still alive, and people would be starting to build bomb shelters.

Well, that's just no fun. Then we'd win too easily, and it'd look fairly similar to the books.
No, what I'd like to see is what happens if the Race arrives in the middle of the 12th century, and while surprised that things are somewhat different than they were when the probe arrived in the 4th, still manage to take over fairly easily. That way, we get to look at what happens to the Empire of the Race when it tries to incorporate a completely alien culture with far more ingenuity than it.

How about Tony Jones' Monarchy World? (http://www.wolfram.demon.co.uk/ah_mw_top.html) In 1941 generally slightly more advanced than OTL, although nukes are a few years away, and the major powers are Britain, Russia and China.

We could use a boost to our space programs.

They won't invade now. Atvar nearly turned around just when they detected radio, and only went through with it because of his pride and the colonists. Now they'd either turn back or just try and nuke us out of existence.

Nuke us out of existence, after thoroughly documenting the radio transmissions and presence of satellites. If they did it right, they could send everything in on a purely ballistic course, and we'd not know we were under attack until the first bombs started falling through atmosphere.

The DC/WILDSTORM Universe.
They would lose of course, just because of the Khera, the Daemonites, WILDCats, and STORMFRONT. If they show up anytime between 1920 & 1999, Col. Jennfier Sparks will tear them a collective new one.
