With a POD no earlier than 1800, design a TL where a Scottish Republican Army, along the lines of OTL IRA, comes into existence to challenge British rule in Scotland.

Perhaps Scotland is uber-rebellious (19th Century-style nationalism appears there, just as it did in Ireland) and Britain eventually has to evacuate, as in Ireland. However, a region of Anglicized Lowland Scotland votes to stay with the UK. Bonus points if there's a religious difference to make people really intractable.

This is not accepted by the rest of Scotland, and so some of them support terrorism in southern Scotland (the primary terrorist group being the Scottish Republic Army, of course). The southern Scots, fearful of being forcibly included in a state dominated by an alien culture, form their own paramilitary groups and fight back.
