Well, here's my nation: the Most Serene Archanate of Rania.
It covers 414.500 square kilometers and has 829.000 inhabitants.
Ranian society is a very tradional society, not unlike 19th century Japan, with aspects of the Medieval Georgia and Gothic societies.
I'll post more about Rania tomorrow.

People's Republic of Glenish Ecuador
Population: 1,413,000
Area(sq km): 706,500
Currency: Glenish franc(GF): .5 GF=1 GED
GDP (Glenish Ecuadorian Dollars): 1,413,000,000
GDP (Glenish francs): 706,500,000
Religions: 75% Protestant, 23% Eastern Orthodox, 2% Other
Languages: 60% speak English, 30% speak German
Government: Theocratic Dictatorship- Generalissimo LightInfa is the head of everything in the government and military, and is also the Patriarch of the official church- the Ecuadorian Protestant Church.
Major Cities:
Port Light- 700,000 people
Lightsburg- 300,000 people
Brownsville- 150,000 people
Redfield- 50,000 people
Fort Congo- 25,000 people
Economy:
The PRGE is heavily industrialized. Factories are heavily concentrated around all major cities, and a large rail network supports movement of resources and goods between these factories. Not a whole lot of farming goes on, as very little of the hinterland has been cleared outside of the cities. Most food is imported from neighboring countries. Manufactured goods are heavily exported. There are large deposits of coal in the hinterlands, but these are not heavily utilized.
Military:
The PRGE maintains a 100,000 man standing army at all times. This army is taken from the crop of the manhood of the country and is lavishly trained and equipped. There are 6 Infantry Divisions and 2 Mechanized Divisions in this professional force. Vickers Mark E tanks and tankettes are the main vehicles used in the armored formations. The Lee-Enfield SMLE Mk III is the standard rifle of the infantry. Infantry uniforms are all gray with kepis as the headgear.
In addition to the standing army, all males 18-30 are liable for military service if conscription is called up. These conscripts would be organized into infantry divisions and cavalry divisions.
The airforce consists of 50 Hawker Hart bombers, and 75 Bristol F2Bs.
The navy has 10 Clemson-class destroyers, and 8 Country-class cruisers.
Geography:
Most of the PRGE is flat terrain covered in thick tropical jungles. Small rivers run through the jungles, but there is very little elevated terrain. Most of the population is around the shores of the Light Bay in the cities of Port Light and Lightsburg. Brownsville is the farthest south city in the country, and it sits a small river. Fort Congo is the farthest west outpost of the country. It is deep into the tropical jungles of the PRGE, and it can only be reached by rail. Most coal mining operations are centered around Fort Congo.

My nation also builds the top of the line for 1930 farm equipment . We have a very large merchant Fleet that 5% of the pop works on board the Merchant ships . 10% of the pop works in the Farming community . 2% works on fishing fleets . 2% of the pop works in canning and food processing . 25% of the Pop works in industry , 6 % works in mining ,

The name of my nation is United Anglo Celtic Monarchy
or UACM for short.
My current population is 1 million,694 000, so i guess my GDP is 1 billion,694 million
The land mass covers just over 12 hexes and is Glenish Ecuadors Southern neighbour.
My Capital City is called Redditch and is currently home to around 400,000 people, many of whom grow their own food on allotments, thus freeing up more food grown outiside the city for export
Politics
we are a liberal democratic Monarchy of which i am king, however becuase of my general greatness i have heavy influence on the Prime Minister whose party is the Democratic Social Conservative Party. This reflects the centrist views of most people here who try to combine traditional values such as hard work, aquirement of knowledge, close family and communal relations and pride in ones self and compassion with utilizing new technologies, acceptance of others and individual freedom ie with rights come responsibilties etc.
While the Social Conservatives believe in hard work, they also aim to make life better for the ordinary folk- in order to ensure a happy and healthy population. Children are sent to school and people pay into a national health insurance
apart from the leading party there is a Labour Party which argues for more workers rights although the Social Conservatives in all their greatness 'borrow' some of their ideas, thus weakening their support. nonetheless they have considerable following and may increase when more factories start operating.
much much smaller parties are the hardline Conservative Unity Party and the Communist Workers Party.
Economy
We are developing industry as well as mining raw materials but right now- most of the populace work on agriculture related work, outside Redditch most other settlements are small farming communities. crops grown include wheat, tea, corn to name a few. cattle sheep and fowl are also raised.
general info on population
The name may be somewhat misleading, while the largest individual group are those of British/Irish extraction, however we also have a large Jewish population as well as Japanese, German, Indian, Chinese and Italians. No one group is numerically dominant and have learnt to integrate. Using English as a lingua france (with people being encouraged to learn others out of respect) a strange fusion culture is beginning to form. There are of course a number of people who mistrust others.
several religions are prominent as practised by above ethnic groups.
More tomorrow.
Imajin
May 7th, 2007, 12:54 AM
High Kingdom of Grand Imajinistan
Government: Constitutional Monarchy
Head of State: His Holy Majesty PATRICK IV DE JULESIPHONIKON ET ASATASIA, High King of Imajinistan, Lord Major of Majinopolis, Duke of Julesiphonikon, Prince of Asatasia, Princely Count of the Telamons, Defender of the State
Regent: His Eminence DANIEL DE BRENNAN, 14th Count Imajin, 13th Prince of Nolata, Margrave of the Western Mark
Head of Government: Prime Minister ARTHUR NEMSTRON (National Unity And Reconciliation Party)
Population: 11,485,000
Capital: Majinopolis
Largest City: Asatasia
Other Major Cities: Nevport, Norria, Nolata, Ieliensi City, Tescadia (Telamonic: Perik Va'tez Kadion), Meridia (Telamonic: Perik Meridion)
Transportation:
Imajinistan has a developed highway system and railway system, which is the envy of the world, or they like to think so anyway. (Though it came at a heavy cost under the dictator de Floriesti) Many of the massive new highways lie uncrowded, as most of the population uses the nationalized rail system (gauge of 5 ft 11 in), however, private automobile use is rising. Majinopolis has a monorail, and Asatasia has a subway. Most other cities have streetcar systems. The railway system in Telamon runs on a narrow gauge (2 ft 10 in) and is controlled by the private Tescadia, Meridia, and Telamon Railroad Company.
Economy:
Imajinistan has a primarily industrial and modern economy in the cities, but the countryside, especially in Telamon, remains rural and underdeveloped. It is mostly self-sufficent, and Majinopolis is the most important port city.
Military:
Following the collapse of the de Floriesti regime, the military was massively scaled down. However, the machinations for universal conscrition remain in place, and much equipment is in storage, though often outdated. The remaining military has new equipment and is well trained, if small. The navy has been a focus for some time, with major naval bases across the country's coast and the Ieliensian Islands.
History:
Imajinistan was united over a thousand years ago by the House of Julesiphonikon-Asatasia, though the ethnically different province of Telamon was only added much later. The nation was a pioneer in industrialization. However, in recent history, the country began to plunge into a deep economic depression. In this climate, General Hans de Floriesti led a coup d'etat against the elected Prime Minister C. Daniel Nemstron and the ruling Economist's Party, and declared himself the absolute leader of the nation. A month later, the High Queen Anastasia III was assassinated under dubious circumstances, and her young nephew, Patrick, was declared High King Patrick IV with de Floriesti as regent.
The Floriesti regime believed in improving the economy through vast public works. The Generals legalized gang, the "Gold Shirts", kidnapped people from unemployment lines and put them to work with little pay to build massive expansions to the nation's railroad system and to build its highways, among other things. The people of Telamon were discriminated against greatly, and after a nationalist riot in the countryside, the Gold Shirts ravaged the rural population of the peninsula and dumped them in camps outside the two major cities. Floriesti was known to loath the Telamonians, and had plans for forced assimilation.
These were not to pass. After only seven years of the Floriesti regime, it began to come crashing down. A kidnapped work gang working on 2A West north of Asatasia managed to defeat the military batallion guarding them (many of the soldiers decided to defect rather than listen to orders to murder their fellow citizens), and soon all of Asatasia was up in riots. The country began to fall apart.
The country was rapidly divided. Supporters of the Floriesti regime still held on in Telamon, which was under military control. A conservative aristocratic regime held power in Majinopolis, and leftist democrats controlled Nevport and the northwest. The Ieliensian Islands fell to a nationalist government. The Majinopolis and Nevport factions came to an agreement to unite in a unity government under the leftist Daniel de Brennan, 14th Count Imajin, a moderate leftist pro-democratic aristocrat. The Ieliensian Islands eventually accepted an autonomous government.
However, in Telamon, the military regime refused to compromise. But their position was untenable- the Telamonians hated them utterly. Riots broke out in the concentration camp outside Meridia, and the military moved to crush the city. In the battle of Meridia, nearly two-thirds of the city was burned, but the military was forced to evacuate. The Majinopolis government saw it's chance and moved in, crushing the Telamon military regime in six months.
The country was reunited, and the process of rebuilding began. The moderate leftist regime nationalized certain industries, including the railroads (except the narrow-gauge Telamon network), and power companies. However, while the economy has finally begun to recover and unemployment has rapidly dropped, the country still has deep divisions. In Telamon, nationalist groups have rapidly increased their demands, and the Ieliensians are beginning to question if the unity of Imajinistan is a good idea. Only the political skill of the regent holds the country together...

PSYMERICA
At best the current regime can be called an ideological military dictatorship with a heavy structured and organized society, which expounds the spreading of it’s people, not ideology, across the world.
Population: 2,630,000
GDP: 2.63 Billion GED
GDP composition by sector
Agriculture – 28 %
Industry – 22 %
Services - 50%
Land:
Area: 1,315,000 sq km.
Land – 1,290,200
Water – 24,800
Agriculture
arable land: 25%
permanent crops: 10%
Geography: Mountainous in the lands across the straits. On the mainland, jungle and swamps in the south, level to rolling plains in the midlands, and rugged hills, low mountains, and cliffs in the north coast.
Climate: Tropical and maritime: Wet and rainy on a seasonal basis.
Natural Resources: coal, lignite, natural gas, iron ore, copper, nickel, uranium, salt, timber, lead, zinc, tungsten, hydropower
Psymerica is divided geographically into the smaller Eastern and large Western portions fo the nation. Nearly 65 percent of it’s population currently resides in the Eastern portion of the nation, where the lifestyle is more metropolitan and more devoted to the services and industrial sectors. The rich Marrow mountains in the Eastern portion of the nation allows for plenty of natural resources to exploit.
The Western portion of the nation is relatively agrarian and rural, due to the rich and fertile low lands. Although currently the agrarian lifestyle of most people in the West is being disrupted due to the industrialization of the agriculture.
MORE PSYMERICA INFORMATION:
It’s economy is one based strongly on agriculture and the military, though reforms are pushing for a more industrial model than agricultural. Although lagging behind in some areas compared to the rest of the world, Psymerica has been trying desperately to play catch up in the industrial sector. Farms are now being industrialized and the excess population are being shifted into the new and expanding industrial sector.
Although it lags behind in some technological areas, it’s medical system is by far one of the more efficiently run and advanced ones in the world. Psycmerica has the largest percentage of doctors as an occupation than most places in the world and has a hefty budget seeking to expand it’s medical knowledge, it’s a byproduct of it’s continued insistence that population growth be one of it’s main social focuses. Can’t have babies, unless you make sure they’ll come to term and can’t have a huge army unless you can keep them well enough to fight.
All men, above the age of 16 are drafted into the military and serve a minimum of 6 years before being allowed to return to civilian life, though much of their military service is continued training in some civilian career they will be following once their term is up. All men are also continually trained as a part of the Reserved Forces up until the age of 45.
Women at the age of 16 are enrolled into what amounts to college, there they are taught how to become administrators and do all the heavy bureaucratic lifting while the men go out and fight whatever war is currently in style. Their service to the nation is that at the age of 20 they must start having children, a minimum of 1 per every 2 years.
Children are raised in a Kibbutz style communal setting, from birth to the age of adulthood, 16. Due to the high demands on the female population to continue to produce children, the parentage of a child is iffy.
Cultural growth is encouraged, in the form of art and music, but anything remotely political is not acceptable. Due to it’s military leanings, the nation of Psymerica tends to be more Spartan in it’s luxuries, preferring to adopt the policy of limiting temptation and/or over indulgence.
An ethnically diverse country, as it’s a nation that’s based on ideology and culture, not ethnicity.
PSYMERICA MILITARY FORCES:
The Psymerica Military is infantry based, with a fair sized navy and small air force. Most bureaucratic/clerical positions are taken up by women, though they must be 40 and over in age and volunteers.
The entirety of it’s air force is located in the two brigades in the Army and the two brigades in rhe Marines.
Currently 300,000
Reserves - 400000
Army: 200000
Marine: 50000
Navy: 50000
8 Army Divisions
(1 motorized divisions)
(2 armored divisions, each with 1 air brigade)
(1 mountain divisions)
(4 regular infantry divisions)
2 Marine Divisions, each with 1 air brigade
2 Naval Fleets

This is our current flag
This was our old traditional flaghttp://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w268/TheDean_2007/Flag2.jpg
As you can see situated as we are in the bay at the end of the central mountain chain we are a maritime community.
Divided into two halves where the rivers from the mountains and the plains enter the Bay of Dean.
Divided into Westdean or more usually called Dean on Hill and Eastdean where the main township and boatyards are situated.
Having started as a fishing community and then developing into an oceangoing maritime culture we offer transportation services for other nations.
Our main industry is boat and ship construction. As modern (1930s) ships are steam powered we have a viable locomotive construction industry for our internal railroads. The mineral resources from the Central Mountains are currently sufficient to supply our needs for fuel and raw materials. My personal modern gear I brought with me will be state of the art chronometers, compasses, sextants etc all of which could be copied with 1930s skills and materials. Also I would bring with me an inertial guidance system. This works on gyros and hopefully could eventually be reproduced.
Agriculture is comparable any small 1930s temperate zone coastal area in OTL.
The fishing is good, look at all of that ocean.
Our merchant fleet reflects the proportion of sail to steam that existed in OTL before WW1 U Boat campaign destroyed most of the ocean going merchant sailing fleet. Using the ideas of modern sailing vessels with 1930s materials and skills crew levels and efficiency of sailing vessels will be significantly enhanced making them effective for non time sensitive cargoes.
Our defense philosophy will be to have a small standing force and most adults trained to form a reserve. The tactic would be to use local knowledge to make any invasion be so costly as to be not worth the effort. Powered merchant shipping would be constructed in the manner of British ships of this period in OTL with the fo'c'sle strengthened to cope with a gun being fitted. In peaceful times this would only need to be a 20mm or 2lb weapon but in times of tension a 4 or 6in gun would be fitted. Automatic weapons would always be carried for defense against pirate activity and opportunist attacks.
For now the government is me and every damn expert I find I need in my population. Eventually I want to step down and get a system set up to select a governing body so that I can play with my boats and trains!I guess I am going to be a regular customer of Ward's for his products and I hope to get a bit of business from him for my fish and transport services.

i thought my first post was too vague and messy so.
The United Anglo Celtic Monarchy
Landmass- 12 1/2 hexes south of Glenish Ecuador.
Population 1 million, 694 000.
GDP 1 billion, 694 million (i assume.
Capital- Redditch, coastal city with population of around 500,000 many of whom grow food on allotments to allow for more exports, most manufacturing is located in redditch as is the main seaport.
Other settlements- most are small towns and farming communities.
next biggest settlement is Mount Churchill with around 250,000. no toehr large settlements bar some decent sized towns.
Politics
A liberal Democracy of which i am Monarch with a lot of influence on the Prime Minister.
The bulk of the population has views and ideas which could be classed as centrist conservative- and the dominant political party, The Democratic Social Conservatives reflect this.
Traditional values such as hard work, respect, close family and community relations go hand in hand with an interest in new technologies, acceptance of outsides and minorities, the aquisition of knowledge etc.
The next biggest party is the Labour Party which is more left wing. they are weakened however as the Social Conservatives adopt some of their more reasonable ideas.
There is also a tiny far right party and a similar sized Communist party.
The government has adopted national health insurance
Economy
Given the small population right now, the greater number of people are engaged in agricultural related work. We are mostly self sufficient in food and export large quantities to other countries. we have some manufacturing industries making ships, automobiles and equipment, often started by the government as we're still a small country. Films and cartoons are produced by new studios, albiet in relativly small numbers.
government gives financial aid to farmers who use modern techniques to boost efficiency. many large farms are run by management as business, with hundreds of workers. It is law to treat workers well.
People and culture
Despie its name, this country is in fact a strange hybird of British/irish ethnicity and several others- japanese, jewish, Chinese, Italian, Jamaican and german- English is the lingua franca and no ethnic group has overall dominance- with a fusion culture developing.
Culturally- sports like football, boxing, martial arts and tennis are popular.
Food- well lets just say the people like eating and drinking beer, but mostly within acceptable levels.
Religion- as practised by the aforementioned ethnic groups, ie Protestants, Catholics, Oriental religions, Judaism.
Military
Currently only a small standing army. with most civilian adults having training to form militias in the event of any invasion.
small air force of 30 bi planes, and a Navy of 2 destroyers and 1 frigate, with 2 corvettes. it can only act as a coastal defence force.
there is still considerable wilderness left due to effective management of agricultural land and small population.

Republic of Sylvanus
Population: 52,000 currently. INS and Census Brueau estimates that the population will grow very steadily for a very long time.
Comparative 1930's USA (OTL) education levels with emphasis on science math and social studies (includes history, politics and international relations)
Three "Iron League" Universities, each with it's own speciality.
(My people aren't stupid, even if they have their moments.)
Government :
Federal Republic with three branches.
Consisting of three Provinces
Executive:
President - Elected for 5 year term with a maximum of two terms.
Prime Minister - President's Second in Command
- Selected by the President from the dominant party or coalition in Congress.
- Serves as liason between Congress and the President.
- Usually appointed from most experienced Legislators currently in Congress.
Legislative
Tri-cameral legislature
House of County
Elected for two years from said "county" or province. Oversees all local budgets for schools, roads etc. Elected every 4 years. No term limits.
House of State
Similar to USA house of Representatives in structure and function. Oversees budget for Armed forces, Regulations for International Trade etc. Elected every two years, term limits of a total of twenty six years served
Senate
The Senate is an elected body that works on/in the day-to-day proceedings of the various departments (Dept of War, State, Interior etc.) They also work hand in hand with the State House to shape new laws effectively and rationally.
Armed Forces
Army
1,200 man standing army, supplimented by regional militias sponsored by National Guard.
3 Tanks, with varying prototypes in development.
National Guard
6,000 trained soldiers available in case of emergency or invasion. Normally fishermen or farmers, they are required to take 3 weeks of training per year along with periodic training with local units.
Navy/Coast Guard
The Sylvian people wanted something to protect their coast from pirates, as a great many of my people are fishermen. Thus the navy is the largest and best funded of the armed forces.
2 Aircraft Carriers - Formerly Freight hulls now used to carry scouting aircraft to spot for pirates or fish.
1 Cruiser
2 Destroyers
4 Corvettes
Various Privateers and Mercantmen are hired to assist in times of greater threat.
With a complement of 18 shore based aircraft and 8 carrier based ones, the Navy has the coast reasonably well defended.
Economy
Sylvania is dependent on the exporting of finished goods. Thankfully most Sylvan profucts are well-made and the lifetime-guarentee has made an indellible mark on the small-but-strong industry. Oddly enough, some of the biggest exports of the country are their alcoholic beverages. These drinks have made a fine name for themselves worldwide and place regularly in international drink-tasting exhibitions. Imports mostly come in the form of oils for heating and such and luxury goods. Many exported Sylvian products include Radios or "Wireless" depending on where you are from, cameras, Alcohol, Tobacco, and all manners of others.
Over 82% of the land is not only arable but incredibly fertile and thus food is always readily available. This has led to some health issues as people haven't simply grown food crops, but "cash crops" such as tobacco and cannabis. The goverment generally frowns on this but generally leaves the issue to the provincial or local authorities to deal with.
The goverment sponsors technological development by regularly giving small grants to inventors to build "test models" or prototypes of their ideas - provided they benefit the nation. A recent contestant was runner-up with his ideas on alternate fuels, as coal can be dangerous and man-intensive to mine and oil is expensive.
More to come...

Economy continued:
Agrucultural products: Cotton (main cash crop), Watermelon, Pumpkins, Maize, Poultry, and Wheat
Natural resources: Oil (large reserves), Iron ore, Copper, Lead, Zinc, and Natural gas
Politics:bit like Denmark politically
Political parties:
Social-Democratic Party- The social-democratic party has held power within parliament for the better part of a century. Typically described as being left-center.
Christian Democrat party- The Christian Democrats are the 2nd largest bloc within Parliament and have been the leading opposition to the Social-Democrats. Typically described as right-center
Libertarian Party- The Libertarian party has been a small but vocal bloc within Parliament and has even held majority at one time. Typically described as being far left.
Green Party- The green party has a miniscule but loyal following. Typically described as center. The Green Party got its name form the Zarthanian flag, with the party being in the center of the political spectrum many people associated it with the green stripe in the middle of the flag and thus the name became the greens
Fascist Party- The Fascist party has never have much of a following, being considered a pack of lunatics they have even less seats in parliament than the greens. typically described as extreme right.
Culture: Zarthania has a rich diverse culture which embodies a very “live and let live” ideology. Basically the Zarthanian people really don’t care what you believe/do so long as implementing those thoughts/ideas doesn’t force them on other people. Beyond politics the Zarthanian people are generally very easy going. A tiny portion of the population worships a wolf-god entity which is a remnant of Zarthania’s Ancient pagan beliefs.
History:The people of Zarthania once lived in the far north of the world until they were driven out by various wars and moved farther and farther south until they reached their current home. The ancient Zarthanian people worshiped a wolf spirit and many of the wolf themes still exist in Zarthanian culture to this day.

Republic of Thalassa
Population: 155,000 (March 8, 2007 census report)
Capitol: Inselago (pop. 40,000)
Other Cities: Atlantica (pop. 45,000) (most important port/industrial center)
Basgard (pop. 40,000) (fortress city, secondary capitol)
Seaville (pop. 20,000) (tourist city, important port)
There are a few dozen other small inland communities, none with a population bigger than 1,000. These are scattered. They are mostly farming communities. All of Thalassa's 4 major cities are connected by a railroad/highway. In the cities, mass transit, bicycles, horses, and foot power are the main forms of transportation, due to our limited resources, and limited space, which is why only the upper-class have cars.
Government: Democratic Republic, broken down into 3,542 provinces. Just kidding! Its a unitary state, yippy! Ruler has nearly-absolute powers. Can be elected for up to two five-year terms.
Military: The RT Armed Forces are divided into three branches: the Thalassan Navy, the Thalassa Marine Corps, and the Thalassan Civil Guard, which acts as the police force.
The Thalassan Navy comprises of mostly patrol ships, corvettes, minelayers, 3 submarines, and some blockade runners. We also have 6 frigates, 4 destroyers, and two cruisers. The Navy is manned by approximately 10,000 personnel. It is more of a coast guard than an actual fighting navy, though we do certainyl have offensive capability.
The Marine Corps also functions as the mainland army. It also operates our air force. Consists of about 15,000 personnel-about one division.
The Thalassan Civil Guard acts as the police force. Has about 10,000 personnel.
Our military is an all-volunteer organization, so you don't get paid! Unless your an officer.
Economy: Agriculture is our largest export. We make enough food to fill our needs. Most of our electricity comes from hydrelectric dams. We have to import most of our metals and other stuff, but we export the finished products-such as cars, planes, trains, and boats. During the past few decades, Thalassa has rapidly industrialized itself, and is a premier in the building of fine boats and cars. Much of our income comes from the tourism industry.

hopefully the last bit on the United Anglo Celtic Monarchy,
As of 1930
Education
Every child attends school from age 5- 15, after which they can either go into vocational education or college (in the British sense). lessons focus on maths, literacy, civic values, science and basic engineering and life skills ie cooking etc.
There are currently three universities- 2 of which are located in Redditch and focused on business, professions sciences and engineering while another one further out in the country dedicated to agriculture.
Military
We currently have no standing army, a volunteer militia in which a large proportion of the adult population takes part is our only hope in the event of enemy landing.
A small force of 22 Bi Planes is our airforce, based in the North of our country, while our Coastal defence force is made up of 3 torpedo armed patrol boats, 1 corvette and 1 frigate.
Flora/Fauna/resources
We have a climate like Southeast Asia and animals from that region, ie Tigers, monkeys, elephants, oxen etc. There are reports of hairy man like beasts from around the country, 1 variety being huge and another being dwarf like in size.
Our country is more or less evenly divided into tropical lowlands and more comfortable highlands where both major cities are located, crops include numerous fruits and vegatables as well as lumber, tea, coffee, cocoa and rice- all of which can be exported as well as rubber, in large numbers.
We export Coal in large numbers, but have other as yet mostly unexploited mineral resources- Tin, Gold, Oil, uranium and prehaps others.
Mining companies from other countries are welcome to prospect and exploit such resources- provided they abide by our employee laws and give the state a share of the profits.
We also belive there to be natural Gas deposits somewhere around here.
Misc
Our small manufacturing sector has produced two airships- 1 named the Monarch transports me on state visits and tours of the kingdom, another serves as a passenger transport across the sea.
we also have several merchant/passenger ships- accomadation is basic right now but comfortable/bearable:D
similar situation with civilian aircraft.

Max Sinister
May 10th, 2007, 03:27 PM
OK, here it is, on the continent of Terra Magna:
The (adoptive) Empire of Maximiliania!
Area: 3,992,500 km² / 60 hexes
Population: 7,985,000
Government: Enlightened absolutism. There's a two-chamber parliament; the first chamber represents the provinces (represented by their nobles) and cities (elected officials), the second one the various classes (farmers, workers, traders, artisans, priests, scientists). The emperor is head of the executive.
Current Ruler: Emperor Max V
Flag: Left half white, right half black. (The old flag was green, with a big fortress tower on it.)
Capital: Maxstadt (~800,000 people)
(So many people concentrate too much on the cities. IOTL states where one third of the pop lives in an around the capital, like Greece, are rather the exception.)
Other big cities:
Maximilianshafen (300,000; biggest harbor)
Maximiliansburg (500,000; in the mountains, biggest industrial city)
Universities: 10 (eight of them in the cities along the rivers)
Religion: Imperial church for most of the population; cult of ratio among scientists. Other religions are tolerated, unless they're considered dangerous (doing human sacrifice or otherwise crackpot).
Special policy: Tobacco and alcohol aren't forbidden, but heavily taxed. Marihuana is only used in medicine. Other drugs are forbidden.
Army: During peace, 100,000 men plus the militia in the provinces.
Language: WTH... it's German. Spanish is common among immigrants, and English is important as a language for trade.
Agricultural products: Rice, breadfruit, yam, cassawa, maniok, beans, sweet potato, pumpkin, peanuts, okra; bananas, mango, papaya, guaves, coffee, pepper; many kinds of timber, rubber, palm oil; beef, chicken, pork.
(Hey, it's a big country, so it has many different resources!)
Resources: Coal, iron, oil, copper, titanium. No uranium.
Industrial products: Quite diversified - better ask what they don't produce. Biggest export surplus comes from machines.
Imports: Stones for building, oil platforms, some metals.
History:
Centuries ago, the then-kingdom of Maximiliania was just one of many feudal states in the area where the Sinister river coming from the Central Massive meets the Maximus river. Like the other kingdoms, duchies and other states along them, it was mostly agricultural. But thanks to its location it was perfectly fit for a trading place, so it started to acquire wealth and knowledge. Given enough time, it expanded by war, alliances, diplomacy and some marriages, until it covered all the area from the Central Massive to the Jaredian (I think) harbor at the coast, which controlled most of its oversea trade.
Things changed a century ago, when Industrial Revolution started on the planet. The first emperor decided to modernize his country, so he also encouraged immigration of experienced miners from NomadicSky's country (or whomever the country at the Southern Cape belongs to). The country started to mine in the Central Massive, thus gaining access to various valuable resources. The railroad started to supplement shipping on the rivers.
The expansion into the mountains gave the empire a border with Strahastan, a traditionally troublesome country. That's why emperor Max II had to expand the army and secure the southwestern border with fortresses. Many Strahastani also fled into their neighbor country, often finding work in the mines and industry.
Under emperor Max III, the country started to become unhappy with the Jaredians making so much money as Maximiliania's only connection to oversea trade, so the emperor decided to build a new harbor, connected by a canal to the Maximus river (located in the two southeastern hexes), thus taking out the middle man.
With the population growing further, and many Strahastani immigrating, under Max IV the country started expanding into the southern forests, which are now criss-crossed by roads and railroads. Many new villages were founded there, the development designed by the chair for city-planning.
Recently, oil was discovered in the waters in the south.
Imperator
May 11th, 2007, 01:08 AM
Empire of the North
Population: 239,000
Capital City: Novgorod
History: Emerging from unrecorded history, the Empire grew gradually from a confederation of villages to encompass the entire Dzut peninsula. Much of ancient Imperial history is dominated by conflicts with the Leej peoples, who invaded from their southern island approximately 1500 years ago. After a reduction in territory to near the modern borders, the Empire went into a prolonged state of decline, an age of ignorance, superstition, and misery that was to last nearly a thousand years. However, tentative reforms quickly proved fruitful, and the Empire has largely modernized, and is considered a civilized if somewhat backward nation.
Culture: The Empire's culture is centered around the great Dani'il river, named after the mythical founder who brought the villages together. It is mostly northern Russian, although there remains a Fennoscandian influence. The state language is Russian, although English and French are sometimes used for international communications. Citizens of the Empire are called Northmen or women, all though in recent times this has become elided to Norman ( ).
Economy: Until recently an agricultural nation, the Empire has industrialized greatly in the past few decades, leading to an explosion of both prosperity and inequality. While culture is now centered in the cities, the farmer remains revered as a symbol of virtue and simple honesty. Imperial manufacturing is not up to the standards of advanced nations like the Kingdom of Ward, but is fairly inexpensive due to an abscence of regulations. Recently uranium deposits have been discovered but are only now starting to be extracted, as the Empire lacks the technical equipment.
Government: The country is ruled by the Emperor-King, or Imperator in an authoritarian monarchy. Although the Empire carries on pretensions of sovereignty over the rest of the world, in general these claims are considered part of the ancient fuedal past and ignored. The Empire's government is somewhat repressive (although not oppressive), but tolerates freedom of speech and the like as long as it is not directly insulting to the Imperator.

Republic of Sylvania
Excerpt from
Government & Economics: Sylvian Economic Checks & Balances
"The Sylvian government tends to let businesses run themselves however they like provided they do not cause the public harm. However there are certain rules that corperations must abide by. First is the idea that the government does not simply govern the people, but these businesses as well. Thus the government ownes a maximum of 1% of the stock of any publicly traded company. This allows for accurate quarterly reports on finances to be made to the government and also gives the government a small incentive towards the company's success. This also allows the government some legitamacy to take control of vital industries in wartime. It is a requirement that a professionally trained mediator and the local Union president to be on the board, even if only in an advisory role. While this has not always worked (See Silverman: Ch11: Silver crash of 1892) it has kept many of the working class happier, as they are given some assurance that their concerns are being heard at the top. Other measures are that companies such as textile plants, or chemical plants must have their output or dump above the rriver current from their intake. This measure was adopted after the "Red Dead Fish Disaster of 1912" when thousands of tons of tuna were killed and several towns nearly starved due to a chemical company's lack of concern for their wastes. These responses were hailed as overreaching when they were emplaced but after several weeks of strikes and protesting by workers and small-business owners the big corperations backed down. This dichotomy of Capitalistic Socialism has allowed for a very small nation to thrive and become a leader in some technological areas. The largest problem that Sylvania faces is the rapid industrialization of other, larger nations. To quote my friend James Rotarren 'We are living in interesting times, but one thing is for certain. We will always have good beer.'"
And now....A picture of the first steelworks in my nation

Cabillo Island
Population 8.1 million-- [Austria in 1940]
1.5 million People, 6.6 million Shalivia
60 hexs of land
Gnp 8.1 Billion
32404 points
Those three Island groups in the Sw ocean below Austrilasia,
Volcanic Islands very rich soil, temperate grasslands surrounding the Temperate forest covering the Mountain slopes in the middle of the islands.
Then expanded to the islands north of Australasia, then to the coast.
Rulers- Senior Consul of the Senate -- Marc Q Duquense. Junior Consuls-- Matt Seaton, Richard Crane.
3500 years ago the losers of a religious war over Twins, fled and ended up on the larger chain [hawaii looking]. The people were at about OTL Roman/Greek level of development.
Due to the isolation there were no mammals on the island and only a few small reptiles.
As such the Settlers were to use their Shalivia for draft animals, and for the past 150 generations, they have been subject to selective breeding for this.
From draft to riding, to special types for pearl fishing, timber, mining, ect [think Moties]
Most of the Shalivia stand about 6' 9 ~7' feet tall and weigh about 250~320 pounds, Stocky and very muscular. with extreme endurance
The People stand about 4 1/2 feet tall weighing 90~100 pounds, Slender and athletic.
Economy
about 60% of the The People work in Agriculture, growing everything from Apples and Peaches in the uplands to Dates, Figs, Olives, Citrus & Grain along the coast. [Wheat.Rye,Barley]
Another 10% are fisherman,[main sources of protein was Fish and Milk] using small boats along the shore.
There is also a extensive pearl trade in the shallow waters between the Islands.
Another ~15% are small traders/middle class/craftsmen- new Industry workers.
The top 5% are the Upper-class rulers/officer of the Military/Priests
Except for the military, most industrial production is Craft based, with the products being made in Machine Shops and not in Factories.
There is one large city of about 75-80,000, on the large island, but most of the people live on farms or in small port towns ranging from 1~200 people up to 1~2,000 for the largest towns.
The 2 large port at the bay/river on the coast are up to 20,000 people, each
Military
Almost all male children of the People receive military training from a early age. And are expected to spend some time in the Army. Most of the Army is infantry, but there is a large Calvary component. and almost all children grow up knowing how to ride.
Mostly the Army spends it's time building and repairing the extensive road system that chris crosses the islands. and now the nearby coast. But they do a lot of drilling also.
The Navy has expanded and includes some of the most modern Destroyers, light Cruisers, & Submarines, as well as hundreds of Sea Planes,
Most of the Weapons were still the same as when they came here, Swords, Shields, Spears, thro Long Bows had replaced the Horse Archer bows they had.
However 150 years ago one of the major powers forced the Islanders to open up to the world, Since then they have embraced the Technology of Modern Warfare.
They colonized the nearby islands close to a thousand years ago, and are now moving in on the coast of Australiasia
Culture
The People are very isolated and insular, with no desire to go abroad, or to have visitors come to them.
However there are extensive deposits of Copper and Tin on the islands, and a 3.500 year tradition of Bronze Art.
The females have a long tradition of Weaving, and some of the Tapestries, and Floor coverings have been known to take several generations to complete.
Both The People, and the Shalivias love to sing, and there are Shalivias-Acapulco bands, Most are small, but some of these have hundred of members and are several hundred years old.
The people as fighting a battle, against modernity, trying to hold on to their traditional way of life.
The colonization of the Islands north of Australasia, allowed the expansion of the nation, while the small size of the islands prevented any major change in lifestyle.
However the recent expansion along the coast and up the two rivers is causing major changes,
This is becoming the Industrial heart of the nation, with access to more raw materials.

My country is called ZÛSÓDAN
I will do a lot of pondering on it tonight, as its beer night, and see what has come into being by tomorrow morning
Ward has been kind enough to offer to do the economic calculation bit, which I have gladly taken him up on as I don't have the brain for figures any more.
Zusodan is of course some kind of monarchy, probably an imperial one - after all, why would I want to be anything less than an emperor ? Even if it does rather devalue the currency of the rank, so to speak

If I remember from the wargame I'm going to nick my country from, we had a really CRAP navy. It was based on the Russian First Pacific Squadron, and was full of ships it thought was good, and commanders it thought were good. As soon as we came to fight though, boy were we BAD ! I remember my cruiser squadron being annihilated by ONE enemy battleship. We sailed out of the protection of the harbour, left the cover of the coast defence guns, and were blown to bits one at a time as we came into range.
I think having a navy like that would make quite a fun element of my empire !

6200
A 1914-1918 BB or BC cost 2,000 points each
A CA over 6,000 tons cost 500 points each
OK, is a CA an armoured cruiser ? Basically, I want a good navy but I obviously can't afford to do it with what would be modern battleships for the 1930s as they're too expensive each - I buy three of them and don't have an army ! So, an intermediate force looks more sensible, but I would basically want it comprised of modern equivalents of armoured cruisers as its spearhead. Do I look to CA for this or to pocket battleships, tho' the latter are rather larger than what I need ? If CA is a heavy cruiser, is it something equivalent to the Prinz Eugen, which I expect would do for me?
I would then back it up with light cruisers, destroyers, submarines etc. Can I have a seaplane carrier or do I have to pay 1000 points for one of them ?
Obviously I need a strong merchant navy since I have those nice islands. I can make do with Texas Rangers style of army for the mostpart if I keep the borderland between me and Max as empty land. Can I have some forts please ? Not quite Maginot Line, but a few choice ones like Eben Emael plus a Corregidor on one of the islands ? Obviously forts need garrison troops - how many each, and of what grade ?
I want a civilian airfleet, but if it costs the same as a military one I'm not sure I see the point ? I might as well build bombers, take the guns off and fly them as civilian aircraft until a war comes along when I stick the guns back on, that way I don't get a plethora of conversion problems.
A small elite tank regiment would be nice, but what is 'tank' ? Are we talking Panzer IIIs as the best level in a 1930s world ? They would do.
I think my economy will be a mixture of fishing, coastal trade, mining on the islands, and light engineering, with a few core companies in specialised fields in the capital. Obviously I need to make the dockyards, tank factory and ships engines and armaments self-sustaining so I need to have the infrastructure for that. How do I calculate this ?
Obviously I need farming in the interior to feed the people, and an Imperial Nursing Corps, though I guess most of the military hospitals will be naval ones.
In terms of cities, I'd have a few on the coast of my mainland, and one major one in the islands, in addition to the fort. Probably a couple of small satellite cities in the interior as provincial capitals, presumably the same sort of thing you'd find in Paraguay or Bolivia.
I don't know what my ecology is ? Is it a European equivalent ? I don't have to worry about jungles and tigers and lions in the mountains, do I not to mention Yellow Fever and other stuff ?
What was the bit I read about the ruler having a HIGHER level of tech than the country ? Does this mean I have some secret Elite Scientific Corps working for me that's got these inventions and kept them under lock and key ? I presume I'm going to need a particuarly ruthless Secret Police to keep this information from getting out to the people
Thoughts ???

Does a state secret Police cost the same as a National Police or do I pay at the reserve army price given their paramilitary nature ?
I'm thinking that I will need something that is a cross between the SS and the KGB here ! I don't suppose I need that MANY - OTL there were never THAT many Gestapo, they just SEEMED ubiquitous. I'd need a strong contingent in the capital, small offices in the other cities, and representation perhaps like a Political Officer in each contingent of the armed forces - eg an office in each fort and airbase, a contingent with each regiment of the Rangers, each destroyer flotilla, each individual heavy cruiser. These offices and contingents don't need to be large as they would not be relying on brute force to achieve their aims but terror and the 'Night and Fog' style laws.
I'm also going to need an elite guard for the emperor - do elite troops cost any more than normal ones ? These I guess would be the equivalent of special forces, but I don't see a listing for Commandos etc ?
I guess some submarine pens would be nice - or are they anachronistic ? They are certainly POSSIBLE with 1930s technology so if I have thought of them can I get past the anachronism ?

How much do the following things cost ?
- naval bases ?
I expect they come in two grades
Or do we assume we have some anyway, and as long as its not disproportionate to the extent of the navy we can simply state what and where they are ?
- military grade railway lines and railheads ?
Or again is this related to another aspect or equation ?
I want these radiating out from the capital to the coastal and satellite cities, and also railheads at my inland border forts
- autobahns ?
I could do with some major automobile routes capable of taking tanks direct to their destination since I intend to keep my tank regiment centralised. It won't be much good unless I can get it to where its needed, unless I have to send it by train ?
- armoured trains ?
A sort of after thought but it would be a good way of projecting power for minimal effort in some situations
Do we pay for locomotives and rolling stock or is linked to postcount-x-5 equalling GDP ?
Sorry for the questions but I want to get as far as I can with this tonight before I spend the weekend on fleshing it out offline

I want a civilian airfleet, but if it costs the same as a military one I'm not sure I see the point ? I might as well build bombers, take the guns off and fly them as civilian aircraft until a war comes along when I stick the guns back on, that way I don't get a plethora of conversion problems.
I was thinking the same thing as you have here. In my mind, the civilian aircraft should not cost the same as military. A twin engine transport is not a twin engine bomber. But I'll go with whatever.
A small elite tank regiment would be nice, but what is 'tank' ? Are we talking Panzer IIIs as the best level in a 1930s world ? They would do.
Not 1930s tech, but 1930 at the latest, slight difference.
Obviously I need farming in the interior to feed the people, and an Imperial Nursing Corps, though I guess most of the military hospitals will be naval ones.
You do have 1 medical doctor and 1 dentist per 1000 people.

My interpretation of the hi-tech stuff for leaders was that we have a supply of the junk we want, examples might include big screen tvv, dvd players, Ipods, computers, modern toilet paper:D , microwave ovens, and such. More that the ASBs supplied each of us with the stuff for personal creature comforts and our whims, not that we have scientists making the stuff.

How much do the following things cost ?
- naval bases ?
I expect they come in two grades
Or do we assume we have some anyway, and as long as its not disproportionate to the extent of the navy we can simply state what and where they are ?
I'd expect that the bases come in with the cost of the ships as support structure, just not going overboard about it. If you have a 1 ship navy, a bunch of huge naval bases would be silly.

Very good questions, my personal opinion is that just so it's not out of hand, then no problem. But that's just my personal opinion.

I add the Navy bases in to the cost of ships you also get ship yards with the cost of the ships . If your largest ship is a under 1,000 ton DD/TB that is the largest class ship you could build and repair . Unless you bought a merchant ship then you can build merchant ships of that type .
And 1930 most aircraft that were 2 or more eng started life as a civilian aircraft before it became a bomber. Plus I did not want to make it to complex
on cost .
your national police can be like the SS/SD or KGB if you want .
Also in the cost of aircraft is build in the cost of airfields Figure you recive one airfield for every 10 aircraft you have. .
I also figured if you want Cav instead of INF. it would cost the same
as regure troops for there cost is for barracks , and support for your military unit .
And Grew Wolf asked about Forts use the cost of mech your units for
each 200 men for every 200 men that fort has and if you want artly in it add the cost of the guns also . Think of a 10 point fort as a concrce building with spaces to hold 200 men and has 10xMG nest build in if you want artly in it just add the cost of the guns you want in it .
I was trying to keep the military simple for most people :D
Also when the game starts we will have a true military tread were you post what types of ships you have as well as aircraft . And what type of army you have by units .

I'll actually argue that point. What about the Boeing Model 80, Fokker F.VIII, or the Ford Tri-motor? All solid civilian transports/airliners, none developed into bombers. Problem is that civilian aircraft development gives the possibilities to development of military aircraft. But in all of the examples I give, it would be a lot of work to convert any of them to a bomber and none would be that good at the job. While many of the bombers wouldn't make that good of transports, different designs for different functions.
Also in the cost of aircraft is build in the cost of airfields Figure you recive one airfield for every 10 aircraft you have.
I'm figuring that you are talking about "real" airfields here with lots of supporting facilities, not simply a simple private airstrip with a hanger and gas tank.

Yes thats what I mean on airfields
As for civil aircraft and transports, We are just coming into the civil aircraft to carry passagers .

Ward PM'ed me that a hex fort that controls its zone like Eben Emael is 600 points. I'm OK with this as long as it includes a sizeable garrison (I prefer 1000 men) who can be moved out in an emergency.
Did I understand cavalry cost the same as infantry ? I was going to work on the basis that they would be midway between infantry and mechanised infantry in cost, which seemed logical since I have to supply/fund the horses.
I've worked on the basis that a seaplane carrier (without seaplanes) costs the same as a heavy cruiser - 500 points. Its a bit steep but seems reasonable, and is half the price of an aircraft carrier, which seems a reasonable percentage.
I've also simply doubled the cost per 200 men for the Emperor's Elite Guard to reflect their 'special forces' status.
I've assumed that my twin-engined civilian aircraft were DESIGNED to be upgraded to bombers in the event of a war, so that the infrastructure to achieve this is simply ready and waiting. It seems the only logical reason why they would cost the same.
I've also assumed that the liners I've purchased are relatively easy to convert into AMCs if the need arises, or otherwise as transports or hospital ships.
Oh, and the concrete submarine pens, I've treated as being the cost of a fort, which is 600 points, its a bit steep but this would be pretty new stuff.

The Imperial Navy
2 seaplane carriers
at 500pts each = 1000
6 heavy cruisers
at 500pts each = 3000
6 large light cruisers
at 400 pts each = 2400
20 destroyers
at 25 pts each = 500
30 submarines
at 25 pts each = 750
12 torpedo boats
at 15pts each = 180
14 fast attack boats
at 5pts each = 70
Plus a merchant marine of
60 merchant ships
at 20pts each = 1200
10 tankers
at 25pts each = 250
4 liners
at 400pts each = 1600
There is also one fort controlled by the navy - 600 pts
including I hope a 1000 man garrison
Then there is the armoured submarine base - 600 pts
And the Imperial Marine Corps of 2000 men - 40 pts

I've printed out all the economic stuff I can find and will try and get my head around it tomorrow. But I'm confused about the following things. In case I fail to get my head around it, please could someone explain them so that when I log in on Monday afternoon (hopefully) I can read them if I still haven't worked it out ?
- What do you DO with GDP ? Does it get used to calculate something else ?
- What is the difference between a point and a Glen ?
I can see three different totals here, but can't work out how they inter-relate.
What precisely please does this mean :-
You must assign 1 point for every post you have to keep your GDP at its normal rate at 10000 Glens each for every 1 point you do not put into this you lose 10000 Glens and for every 1 point over your starting post count you receive 10000 Glens
If I have 6200 posts do I therefore have 6200000 people in my nation, that is 6 million, 2 hundred thousand ?
To feed them costs me 3100 points ?
To keep GDP where it is costs me 6200 points ?
Beyond this I don't think I am going to be able to understand it before the library closes. As I said I'll give it my attention this afternoon and tomorrow and see if my brain chooses to work !

I've given myself a few hundred extra/less in some cases. It makes no difference but it looks cooler then round figures.
The Kingdom of Leejustro
Population: 4,930,743
GDP: No idea. I get 49300000 but thats only 49 million which can't be right...
Climate: The northern island is much like northern England. The southern island is more like southern England/France in the south.
Native language: Anglish 58%, English: 27% Other: 15%
About:
Leejustro is a medium sized maritime nation, world renowned for its education standards.
After the civil war of 60 years ago the government has heavy socially leaning views with even its most right wing parties barely registering as right of centre in many nations.
Industry -formerly a major focus of the economy- is in decline with the financial sector rapidly becoming a world leader.
One area in which industry is still going strong is in its production of alcohol beverages.
Tyr

And here we are.
The core of the nation is the northern island...Sort of. It has the capital and the biggest industrial city.
The south has the major universities (Friosbai- derived from 'knowledge city' in Gaelic being the main one) and ports though.
The smaller islands...Craik is like one big park. The northern isles are very cold and icy so not much but a navy base, the southern islands are the big tourist destination.
Those purples are probally anti-revolutionary elements who we were happy to throw out of the country post-revolution.

Thank You :)
So a 1000 man fort is
50 EPs to arm it only with machine guns
and to arm it with 20 artillery pieces
another 200 EPs
Making the cost a total of 250 EPs a fort
I'm hoping that this creates a fort of the size and effect of Eben Emael
as that is what they are on my borders for.
- I don't have any hope of matching the land forces of Straha as I need a navy too
so I have responded by trying to block any potential avenues of invasion etc
I'll skip the sub pens and accept that the WW2 armoured pens a la La Rochelle are anachronistic for 1930
I'm going to work on the basis of these figures and try and present a FINAL revised military. If it doesn't work, well its my 4th attempt and I haven't even got to the starting position yet, let alone begun to talk diplomacy

On behalf of an NPC nation which just has to be included...
The Neutural Rebupilic
Population: 492,000
Area(sq km): 492,000
GDP (Glenish Ecuadorian Dollars): 492,000
Religions: Theoretically 75% Christian, 25% Other, but no-one’s been able to ever understand the inhabitants well enough to be sure.
Languages: 100% speak semi-English, an obscure dialect which in the real world is spoken only by one person, and even then he doesn’t get it right most of the time.
Government: Theocratic Republican Monarchy. The elected president claims the title “His Majesty radical_neutural the Only.” He is also Patriarch of the official church – the Cult of Kaos-Neutural – which has only one adherent. Given that the official religion also requires celibacy, this number of adherents is not expected to rise.
Major Cities:
Caep Twon – 55,000 people
Bgi Prot – 40,000 people
Frot Ain – 35,000 people
FC Rtoll – 25,000 people
Grate Cocanut – 23,000 people
Economy:
Despite what actually might be expected, the Neutural Rebupilic has a well-functioning economy. This is because the inhabitants learned a long time ago to just ignore everything their leader said, and get on with their own lives. The economy is managed by a cadre of unelected bureaucrats who, while not the most flexible of thinkers, do a reasonable job of keeping things running smoothly. The Neutural Rebupilic is largely self-sufficient in food and industry, since no-one else in the world trusts them enough to buy their manufactures or sell them food from month to month. They have a decent rail network connecting their major cities, an adequate mining sector, and a small luxuries market. What they also have is a thriving armaments industry. These are not the most up to date of weapons, but since the Neutural Rebupilic is never quite sure if their neighbours are going to invade, they do their utmost to make sure that they can defend themselves.
Military:
The NR maintains a decent-sized standing army, but it is their reserve army which is most noted. Virtually every man of military age is either in the reserves or has served in them earlier in his life. Most of them have kept their guns with them when they left, too. The NR military includes some elite regiments, such as the Crakcheds, the Ctulhus, the Neatanderdals and the Nzais. They don’t have much of a navy beyond a few coastal defence vessels, and their air force is only moderately-equipped too.
Geography:
Most of the NR is flat forested terrain, with a variety of small rivers. There is a central spine of reasonably high mountains, where most of their mining is done.

This is a description of the NPC nation left over from NomadicSky's claim.
Nova Vinnlandia
Population: 2,046,000
Area (sq km): 1,014,289
GNP (Glenish Ecuadorian Dollars): 2,046,000,000
Religions: Norse Pagan 90%, Christian 8%, other 2%.
Note: Norse Pagan is a “standardised” version of the old Norse religion, an outgrowth which retains the same deities but which has developed an organised priesthood and scriptures through contact with Christianity.
Languages: Vinnlandic 95%, English 4%.
Note: Vinnlandic is a descendant of Old Norse, the common language of all the former Norse peoples. It is mutually intelligible with modern Icelandic, although with substantial differences in vocabulary.
Government: Benevolent Dictatorship. The head of state is His Excellency NomadicSky, although he has largely retired from active government of the country over the last few years. The state apparatus of bureaucrats continues to run the day-to-day affairs, including the secret police.
Major Cities:
Aaronsville – 250,000 people – largest port
Smesburg – 120,000 people – capital city
Asgard – 110,000 people – largest city on the islands
Geography:
Nova Vinnlandia occupies the southeastern portion of Cape Thor, and has recently occupied the nearby Freyr Islands which are the first in a great chain which stretches across the Mare Nostrum. While the nation has a coast on the outlying sea, its best harbours are within the Mare Nostrum. The climate is roughly analogous to New England, although with warmer winters. An adage oft-repeated amongst its neighbours is: “If you don’t like the weather in Nova Vinnlandia, just wait five minutes.”
Economy:
Nova Vinnlandia has until recently been operating under the principle of economic autarky; as much as possible, relying only on local sources of raw material. In the last few years, it has begun to develop trade links with the other nations around the Mare Nostrum and Australasia. The core of its economy operates on the trade between the agricultural northern and western areas on the mainland (and the western island), and the mining areas of the southern mountains and adjacent islands. Industrialisation has come relatively recently to Nova Vinnlandia, and most of the manufacturing is concentrated in a narrow region near the mainland mountains and the northern coast.
Its main agricultural products are wheat, poultry and dairy. It produces a variety of minerals, especially iron ore and coal. Its manufacturing base is mostly aimed for the local market, with relatively few exports.
Military:
Nova Vinnlandia maintains a small but modern navy, and a reasonably large land army to defend its borders. By tacit agreement, the Borderlands with the Zusodan Empire remain without formal claim by other power, to reduce the potential for sudden invasion.

EDIT: The military stuff I posted on Thalassa on page 2 is now void, due to the points sytem-I'm working on that now.
Anyway, for our history:
The Empire of Tarna (the name of our island) was formed about 300 years before the current Republic of Thalassa was established. It controlled much of what is now Nova Vinnlandia (NomadicSky's nation) as well as Zusodan's islands near the front of the Mare Nostrum. However, after repeated attacks from the Empire of the Banned from the North, and attacks from the Thandish Empire to the East, the Empire of Tarna was torn apart by civil war. Eventually, most of its former territory formed countries of their ow, and Tarna was siolated to its own island. Around 40 years ago (1890, I geuss, given that it's 1930 right now), the Republic of Thalassa was formed, which rapidly began to modernize itself, and rebuild.

More to follow as I think of it.
Dragonspine Mountains.
Population - estimated between 2 million and 3 million
Government - none (family and House groupings are the largest units)
Military - none (but the entire population is armed with a large variety of small arms, some families and Houses (and even a few individuals) possess larger weapons.
Industry - nothing on a large scale, small scale logging, mining of the very mineral rich mountains, animal raising and small scale agriculture, some fishing on Mile-High Lake. All based on individual and family desires.

The remainder of the population live in hamlets or on farms.
Govt: Constitutional Monarchy under Prince Alexo I.
Industry: Banking, precision manufacturing, small arms, mining, tourism (mountain resorts)
Needs to import: many manufactured goods, oil.
Military/Economy: (prepared by Ward)
GNP 128 points
64 points for industry

The Principality of Alexo seeks friendly relations with all nations, and will follow a policy of strict neutrality unless attacked.
The low corporate taxes and "hands-off" banking laws make the Principality something of a economic/tax shelter, and certain banks will provide a financial haven to less than "ideal" states or individuals. The government does not condone these actions, but does not interfere in them either.

This is my nation.
The Alliance
Conventional short form: The Unnamed Alliance
Conventional long form: The Alliance of Stars, the Three Islands, the White-Capped Clouds, the Lands of the Delta, the Most Serene Republic, the Place of Black Water, and the Outlying Polities.
Usage note 1: The strangeness of the moniker Unnamed Alliance is a reflection of the complexities of intra-Alliance politics. The different nations of the Alliance are fiercely protective of their separate identities; while they cooperate with each other, they do not see each other as the same. It’s a bit like the equivalent between England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, except if no universal name of “Britain” existed.
Usage note 2: In popular worldwide custom, the Alliance is often referred to as Starria, and its inhabitants as Starrians. This is an incorrect term, as this refers to the Star Republic, the most populous member of the Alliance. Use of this term for non-Starrian members of the Alliance is not recommended, as a spiked gauntleted fist in the face often offends.
Background:
The Alliance is a relatively recent pact between several formerly independent and quite culturally distinct nations. Each of these nations retains formal sovereignty, although in practice only the two largest members possess any functional degree of independence.
The Alliance developed out of a combination of what was originally a set of linked commercial and military treaties between the various members, but approximately a century ago, they established a common council to oversee their foreign policy and to resolve disputes between member states. The Council has gradually increased its political power until it is effectively a federal government and the former nations are effectively states within a common nation (except for the Kingdom of Clouds, which retains some effective autonomy).
The Alliance is noted mostly for its strong naval and commercial links. Historically, the two main member states were noted as shipbuilders due to two excellent natural harbours and abundant supplies of timber. They have continued the shipbuilding tradition, although the age of sail is long past; they use some of their exceptionally rich ores to build steel ships instead. The Alliance’s merchants and traders are widespread throughout the Mare Nostrum and beyond; some of the smaller members of the Alliance began their existence as trading posts and later developed into states.
Overall Alliance Statistics:
Location: The core of the Alliance is a small archipelago of islands in the north-central part of the Mare Nostrum. Other members of the Alliance are located on islands on the fringe of the Mare Nostrum, and west of Lizard’s End. The Alliance also contains some small outposts on the mainland of Terra Magna.
Population: 1,854,000
Area (sq. km): About >that< big.
Climate: Generally tropical to subtropical (main islands), cooler in highlands. Temperate climate in the more southerly islands; tropical marshland and savannah in the northern outposts.
Government: Representative Oligarchy
Head of State: His Excellency JARED NOT-DIAMOND NOT-LETO NOT-SUBWAY, Chief Negotiator of the Alliance
Economy:
GNP (GED): $1,854,000,000
Overview:
The Alliance has a diversified economy, with a combination of agriculture, mining, manufacturing and services. Historically their strong shipbuilding industry and merchant tradition saw them act as middlemen between many of the world’s developing nations, but this has changed over the last few decades with the rise of other maritime powers. However, shipbuilding and associated manufacturing remains the Alliance’s largest industry.
The Alliance does not have a massive manufacturing industry. While they produce a considerable number of ships, steel, and some precision manufacturing for export, the bulk of their manufacturing is geared to support local services. They do have some of the finest ship designers in the world, and they’ve recently started to experiment with aircraft when they realised that the navy was no longer enough to defend their far-flung nations. The Alliance has considerable mineral reserves of their own, but their large steel industry also means that they often find it helpful to import iron ore and other raw materials.
The Alliance has a profitable agricultural sector, and is perfectly capable of growing its own food. However, some member states have found it more practical to grow and export cash crops and import basic foodstuffs. They also import oil; while they have local reserves available, they prefer not to exploit them too intensively, but to leave them available in times of war or blockade. Some of their scientists have begun research into using the Fischer-Tropsch process to produce synthetic fuels from their abundant local coal reserves; they have also explored the possibility of using their local sugar production for ethanol fuels.
Exports: Ships and naval products; steel; fish and fish products; coffee; chocolate; sugar and sugar products (rum, processed white sugar, hardened candies etc); tropical timbers; rubber; tourists.
Imports: Grains (wheat, rice, maize), peanuts, temperate and tropical fruits; vegetables; oil; iron ore; university students.
Note: The Alliance likes to think that their universities are the most renowned in the region, and seek to attract bright students from throughout the Mare Nostrum and beyond.
Population
The Alliance consists of a diverse group of member states, although the two dominant ethnic groups are Starrian [think English-speaking Australians transported into a country whose climate and agriculture is a cross between Brazil and Colombia] and Clouzi [think Koreans... with a few adaptations]. Several smaller nations have also joined the Alliance. They have a diverse mix of languages, although English is gradually coming out as the dominant language except in the semi-autonomous Kingdom of Cloudlands. Due to the complexities of intra-Alliance politics, and the famous apologia of the Alliance’s Chief Negotiator, there is no national religion as such, although some of the individual member states do have official religions.
Military
The Alliance military is geared toward the defence of its far-flung islands. It has a strong merchant marine, and a relatively strong navy (for its size) to protect its commerce and defend its home islands. They have a small but modern air force, which is also mostly equipped and trained for naval operations. Their army is relatively underfunded, but it includes a few elite units (Foreign Legion, Alliance Expeditionary Force, Special Marines) and a large reserve force to be deployed in times of far. The most noted of these units is the Foreign Legion, which recruits both foreigners and disaffected locals to serve in the force defending the outlying polities (although with Alliance officers). With the Foreign Legion comes citizenship and a land grant to follow successful military service.
In time of war, the Alliance’s general military strategy is to withdraw to fortifications and rely on its navy. Most of its home islands are actually quite hard to attack, particularly the islands in the straits; consisting mostly of cliffs with only a few well-defended suitable landing points.
Member States of the Alliance
Starria
Background:
The oldest nation in the Alliance, Starria was united as a kingdom approximately 700 years ago. It spent most of the next 500 years involved in a series of trade-based rivalry with the city-states and eventually Kingdom of the White-Capped Clouds on its southern neighbouring island. The small island kingdom of Amber to the west was annexed about 300 years ago. Two hundred years ago, Starria formed a defensive pact with the Kingdom of Clouds, which would become the forerunner to the Alliance. The monarchy was overthrown 150 years ago, and Starria has been a republic ever since. Starria is the most heavily-populated state in the Alliance, and contains the majority of the industry, although even then the majority of its lands are unpopulated.
Geography:
The Star Island has a tropical climate, with the northern half of its lowlands covered in tropical rainforest, and the southern half covered in a mixture of forest and savannah. The central two-thirds of the island consist of a raised plateau which rarely exceeds 2500 metres, except for the Chiswellian Alps on the western edge. The abundant rainfall has created several noteworthy river valleys, the largest of which feeds into Starport and the great harbour on the northern edge of the island. Except for a few cleared areas around the coastal cities, and some plantations in the highlands, most of the Star Island is still pristine jungle and savannah.
The small western island of Amber consists of a central volcanic peak (believed to be extinct), a rugged and mostly jungle-covered interior, and very rich soils in the lowlands.
Natural resources: coal, iron ore, copper, tin, silver, nickel, lead, zinc, hydropower
Note: while Star Island has several excellent sites for generation of hydroelectricity, only two small dams operate. Most of their electricity is generated by coal-fired power plants.
Major cities:
Starport: 350,000 (northern coast of Star Island)
Amber City: 60,000 people (Amber Island)
Sirius: 75,000 (southern coast of Star Island)
Government
Country Name

Capital: Starport
People
Population: 927,000
Nationality
noun: Starrian(s)
adjective: Starrian
Ethnic groups: White 96%, other 4%
Languages: English (official), immigrant languages
Note: The Star Republic allows only children born to existing Starrians to qualify for citizenship; everyone else is a guest, even if their family have been resident there for generations. The remaining 4% consists of some citizens of other Alliance states, and some guest workers in the agricultural and industrial sectors.
Religion: No official religious numbers exist; the secularity laws of the Star Republic forbid any gathering of religious information
Economy
Overview
Starria has a diversified economy, with thriving agricultural, mining, manufacturing and service sectors. It grows a variety of agricultural cash crops for export to other Alliance states and foreign nations, principally sugar in the lowlands of Star Island and especially on Amber. Coffee is grown in the highlands, along with smaller amounts of cacao and tobacco. While it has the capacity to grow its own food, it prefers to import most of its foodstuffs. Apart from a thriving fishing industry, dairy industry, some poultry and specialist fresh vegetables, they import most of their basic food. Coal mining is mostly done on the lower slopes of the Chiswellian Alps; other mining is conducted around the fringes of the central plateau.
Agricultural products:
Fish, sugar, coffee, tobacco, cacao, potatoes, sweet potatoes, cassava, and amaranth
Mining:
Coal, iron, copper, silver
Industry:
Food processing: processed coffee, rum, chocolate, processed white sugar, hard candies, cigars
Manufacturing: shipbuilding and ship equipment, steel, chemicals
Note: the sugar processing and products are mostly located on Amber, along with the rum distilleries. Most heavy manufacturing and other industry is located on the main island at Starport.
Transportation
Rail and road links are relatively underdeveloped; no cross-island highways have yet been developed. There is a central rail link between Starport and Sirius, and secondary lines to the various agricultural towns and regions of the highlands. But the geography of the island (highlands, mountains and jungle) means that most people and goods still move by sea. Air travel is still relatively in its infancy, although there are air links to some of the other member states of the Alliance.
Cloudlands
Background:
Cloudlands emerged as a united kingdom approximately 400 years ago, forged together from a group of fragmented city-states by the noted warrior-king Taejo Wang Geon, whose Goryeo Dynasty has ruled the kingdom ever since. Cloudlands spent the next two hundred years in a series of wars and rivalries with Starria across the water, culminating in the Black Water War about 200 years ago. With this war proving indecisive, and threatened by barbarians across the water, the two nations formed a defensive pact. This treaty has been expanded to form the Alliance, although the Goryeo monarchs have retained more autonomy than any other member nation.
Geography:
Cloudlands is co-terminus with Island of White-Capped Clouds, usually called Cloud Island in popular usage. This island has a subtropical climate around the coast, although most of the interior of the island consists of a rugged series of mountains, the highest of which rises to 6000 metres. Most of the population of the island live around the coast; the interior is largely uninhabited except for some mines, rubber plantations and lumber camps.
Natural resources: coal, iron ore, salt, chromium, vanadium, antimony, nickel, phosphates, nitrates, gem rubies, sapphires, hydropower
Notes: While Cloud Island has abundant reserves of coal, they are harder to access because of the rugged terrain. Most of their electricity generation comes from hydropower; they have several large dams and electricity is cheap for the inhabitants.
Major cities:
Luoes: 167,000 (capital and largest city, located on south-eastern coast)
Nochni: 111,000 (south-western coast)
Nasul: 83,000 (northern coast)

Note: Unlike its northern neighbour, Cloudlands welcomes immigration, both from other Alliance members and abroad. They have a tradition of successful assimilation.
Religion: Buddhism (state religion) 82%, Christian 7%, other and no religion 11%.
Economy
Overview
Cloudlands has a modern (by 1930 standards) economy, with a solid base in agriculture and mining, but with a thriving services and education sector. It has a relatively small but profitable manufacturing sector, producing mainly high-value precision goods, including the Alliance’s main suppliers of internal combustion engines, automobiles and aircraft. Its agricultural sector focuses mostly on food crops, for its own needs and the other members of the Alliance. Cloudlands has a thriving tradition of higher education; its universities are open to students from across the Mare Nostrum and beyond. Many of them choose to remain in the nation after completing their education, and pursue profitable careers there.
Agricultural products:
Rice, pigs, fish, root crops, rubber
Note: Cloudlands has a thriving rubber industry both for local purposes and exports, with abundant local resources
Mining:
Phosphates, nitrates, nickel, chromium, gem rubies and sapphires
Note: Cloudlands’ Go-Kom Valley is famous for its alluvial blood-red rubies of a colour unrivalled anywhere else in the world; they also produce large numbers of less valuable sapphires. These are the basis of a small but extremely profitable export trade.
Industry:
Manufacturing: Automobiles, aircraft, engines, locomotives and rolling stock
Imports: University students
Transportation
Cloudlands has a tradition of industrialisation and manufacturing which goes back to the ironclad “turtleships) of hundreds of years ago. In more recent times, this has been developed by foresighted monarchs who built a railroad encircling the island in the lowlands. Originally using coal-fired engines, this rail system has more recently been electrified. A highway also encircles the island, and private vehicles are a combination of internal combustion and electric cars. Air travel is beginning to become more important over the last few years.
Aqua Niger
Background:
Aqua Niger occupies a small but valuable island midway between Starria and Cloudlands. Historically, it had been first a protectorate of Starria, then an independent polity which maintained a delicate independence by being too valuable a strategic location for Starria or Cloudlands to cede to the other. When the trade wars of those two nations finally came to an end and they formed the Alliance, Aqua Niger was perforce required to join their pact. It was a relative backwater with a sugar industry but little else, until the recent march of industrialisation turned its petroleum reserves into a valuable commodity.
Geography:
Aqua Niger occupies the Island of the Black Water, a small and relatively low-lying island midway between Star Island and Cloud Island. This island has a few small hills but is mostly flat. It is covered by subtropical rainforest, except for a few plantations and recent exploitation of oil wells.
Natural resources: petroleum, natural gas, asphalt
Notes: While Aqua Niger has abundant natural reserves of natural gas, these have largely been untapped until the modern era, due to a lack of commercial uses.
Major cities:
Bagoto: 18,000 (capital and only major city)
Government
Country Name
Conventional short form: Aqua Niger
Conventional long form: Eagle Kingdom of Aqua Niger
Government type: theocratic monarchy
Head of state: His Holiness Gaius Marcus Cicero
Capital: Bagoto
People
Population: 55,600

noun: Aquan(s)
adjective: Aquan
Ethnic groups: Aquan 55%, Clouzi 30%, Starrian 12%, other 3%
Languages: Latin (official) 20%, English 70%, Korean 7%, immigrant languages
Note: The native Aquans still comprise a majority of the population, although their native Latin language has largely been displaced by the influence of Starrian English over the last century. Large numbers of “temporary” immigrants have come from other Alliance states to work in the thriving sugar industry (mostly Starrians) and petroleum industry (mostly Clouzi from Cloudlands). They do not have any citizenship rights and cannot directly participate in the political process, although in practice their commercial interests are protected. The native Aquans are perfectly willing to take the oil and sugar money and spend it on luxuries.
Religion: Cult of the Eagle 50%, Buddhist 25%, Christian 10%, other and no religion 15%.
Economy
Overview
Aqua Niger’s economy is dominated by the burgeoning oil industry and the still-profitable but declining sugar industry. Historically, Aqua Niger was a large sugar producer, but the influx of petrodollars has meant that most investment on the island has moved elsewhere, and an increasing number of the sugar plantations are being bought out and their owners relocating to Starria or Amber.
Agricultural products:
Sugar, fish, rice, citrus
Mining:
Petroleum, asphalt
Industry:
Petroleum refining
Transportation
Aqua Niger has an excellent road network, partially for the extraction of petroleum, but also because the inhabitants are fond of using motor transport. It also has a surprisingly large airport for its size, which is mostly used by the richer Aquans who want to commute to Starria or Cloudlands. It has several oil pipelines and a few short railroads to assist with transportation of sugar crops.
The Three Islands
Background:
The Three Islands originated as fortresses and victualling stations for Starrian and Clouzian ships conducting trade outside of the Mare Nostrum. Designed to ensure safe access to the wider ocean even if other nations where hostile, the islands were also located a convenient travelling distance away during the age of sail. Often the site of battles between Starrian and Clouzian forces during the wider trade wars, the islands became more secure with the formation of the first defensive pact two hundred years ago. They were run as joint colonies of Starria and Cloudlands for the next fifty years, until a revolution 148 years ago saw them establish their independence, with the backing of Thandeshire. The Three Islands saw about fifty years of self-rule, until they were persuaded to join a defensive pact with Starria and Cloudlands, which became the Alliance. With the steady growth of the power of the Alliance Council, and their relatively small population, the Three Islands have in practice lost most of their sovereignty in recent years.
Geography:
The Three Islands consist of the eponymous islands of Primoris, Duo and Ugead, and the small Outlying Polity of Quadreach on the neighbouring mainland. The islands are mostly mountainous, being a continuation of the same mountain range on the mainland of Terra Magna and extends as an island chain across the outer rim of the Mare Nostrum. Most of the population lives along the coast, apart from the inland mining. The mountains of the Three Islands are extremely rich in metallic ores, and recently their miners have penetrated onto the mainland of Terra Magna to exploit those same ores.
Natural resources: iron ore, nickel, zinc, copper, gold, lead, molybdenum, potash, fish, timber, hydropower
Major cities:
Primus: 74,000 (capital and largest city, located on north coast of Primoris)
Antonia: 37,000 (located on western end of Ugead)
Government
Country Name
Conventional short form: Three Islands
Conventional long form: Kingdom of the Three Islands
Government type: constitutional monarchy
Head of state: His Majesty Arthur McArthur
Capital: Primus

adjective: Regnan
Ethnic groups: Clouzi 50%, Starrian 44%, Aquan 5%, other immigrants 6%
Languages: Korean (official) 40%, English (official) 57%, other 3%
Religion: Arian Christian 90%, other and no religion 10%
Economy
Overview
The Three Islands economy is based around mining and some limited manufacturing based around those industries. Most of their mining is geared to providing raw materials for the larger manufacturing industries in Starria and Cloudlands. The small agricultural and services sector are designed to meet local needs; unlike some other Alliance members, the Three Islands seek to be self-sufficient in essential resources.
Agricultural products:
Wheat, barley, oilseed, fruits, vegetables, dairy products, forest products, fish
Mining:
iron ore, nickel, zinc, copper, gold, lead, molybdenum, potash
Industry:
Manufacturing:
Processed and unprocessed minerals, smelting, food and fish products
Transportation
The Three Islands have a transportation system geared toward commerce and export. Rail links run between the mining areas and the coastal cities. Naval transport is essential between islands in any event, and is often used even for intra-island travel due to the ruggedness of much of the terrain. There are airports on Primoris and Ugead to maintain links with the other Alliance members.
Navarre
Background:
Navarre was first settled by refugees from the interior of Terra Magna approximately 500 years ago. The inhabitants have tried to stay apart from their neighbours in the interior, forming a “closed nation” with no strong links with any of its neighbours. With the gradual penetration of Alliance trading links, Navarre joined the Alliance 80 years ago for protection and to take advantage of the trade potential. Navarre is a staging point for Alliance commerce with the nations along the Meander River.
Geography:
Navarre occupies a small area of land along the coast and interior of Terra Magna. In common with the adjacent Outlying Polity of Delta, it has a wet, tropical climate. The population is relatively spread out by Alliance standards, with only a couple of medium-sized cities.
Natural resources: coal, lignite, iron ore, copper, lead, zinc, mercury, pyrites, magnesite, fluorspar, gypsum, sepiolite, kaolin, potash, hydropower
Major cities:
El Lugar: 14,000 (capital, located in the northern interior)
Agua Grande: 11,000 (largest port, located on the southern coast)
Government
Country Name
Conventional short form: Navarre
Conventional long form: Most Serene Republic of Navarre
Government type: republic
Head of state: President Jose Colby

adjective: Navarrian
Ethnic groups: Spanish 94%, Starrian 3%, other 3%
Languages: Spanish (official) 94%, English 5%, immigrant languages
Religion: Nestorian Christian (state religion) 100% (official figures)
Economy
Overview
Navarre’s relatively small economy is geared toward agriculture, mining and support services for shipping; there is very little native manufacturing.
Agricultural products:
Rice, vegetables, citrus, beef, pork, poultry, dairy products, fish
Mining:
Coal, lignite, iron ore, copper, lead, zinc, mercury, pyrites, magnesite, fluorspar, gypsum, sepiolite, kaolin, potash
Industry:
Food and beverages, metal and metal manufactures
Transportation
Navarre has railroads linking its main cities and ports, but only a few roads. Air travel is starting to be used to link it to the more populous members of the Alliance.
Delta
Background:
The Lands of the Delta originated as a Starrian trading post at the mouth of the Meander River, allowing trade with the barbarians of the hinterland. Over the last fifty years, the Alliance has turned this once-moribund outpost into a thriving colony, and a staging point for any further claims into the uninhabited lands of the interior.
Geography:
Delta lies at the mouth of the Meander River, whose yearly floods deposit extremely rich silt onto the area, perfect for growing rice and other annual crops. The higher lands away from the river are mostly forested, but the whole area of the Delta is still reasonably low-lying; there are only a few hills and no mountains.
Natural resources: arable land, timber
Government
Country Name
Conventional short form: Delta
Conventional long form: Colonial Lands of the Delta
Government type: joint colony of Starria and Cloudlands
Head of state: Governor Reginald Kincaid
People
Population: 28,000
Ethnic groups: Starrian 30%, Clouzi 25%, barbarians and other immigrants 45%
Languages: English (official) 70%, Korean 25%, barbarian languages 5%
Religion: No official records exist; in common with Starrian secularity laws no information may be gathered about the inhabitants’ religion.
Economy
Overview
Delta has a primary production economy oriented toward trade with the rest of the Alliance. Its main products are food crops, with smaller amounts of timber, sugar and rubber production. It is also the staging point for trade with the lands of the interior.
Agricultural products:
Rice, pigs, fish, rubber, timber
Westport
Background:
The Outlying Polity of Westport originated as a Starrian trading post at the mouth of the Maximus River, and acted as an entrepot for trade between the feuding states of the interior and the rest of the world. With the consolidation of these lands into the Empire of Maximiliania, and the development of separate overseas trade, Westport has dwindled. While it still acts as a staging point for direct trade between the Alliance and Maximiliania, along with some of the barbarians to the north, it does not have the same lucrative trade deals any longer. Westport’s population is declining as most commerce moves elsewhere and the inhabitants follow; the more adventurous types are moving to Delta instead.

Republic of Sylvania
Excerpt from Government & Economics: Sylvian Economic Checks & Balances
This dichotomy of Capitalistic Socialism has allowed for a very small nation to thrive and acheive a parity in some technological areas. The largest problem that Sylvania faces is the rapid industrialization of other, larger nations. To quote my friend James Rotarren 'We are living in interesting times, but one thing is for certain. We will always have good beer.'"
Attached is the former Royal Seal, which the people of Sylvania used as an inspiration for the flag.

Peoples, Culture, and Society of Thalassa
Both the men and the women like to wear their hair long, but it is considered barbaric to have hair on any place of the body othetr than the face.
The age of consent in Thalassa is 16.
The most important job of the women in Thalassa is been one thing: Reproduction. They also do most of the housework and farmwork with the children.
The traditional role of men has usually been serving in the military or as beureacrats.
These gender roles are etched into Thalassan society and culture, and there is an old proverb that says it: Women work the farms and children, and men work the arms and country.
The average Thalassan family has usually 3-5 kids.
Over the past few years there has been a large immigration from the countryside to the cities in search of better work. This was accompanied by a population boom during the 1920's.
Thalassans (or Lassans, as some outsiders like to call them) have a deep respect for the seas. Mostly everyone knows how to swim and operate a sailboat.
A recent law that has been made has made Thalassa notable in popular culture-the law that says obesity is illegal.
