0220 Hours: German-Polish Border (August 31, 1939)

The first German Panzer Corps sat at the border, awaiting instructions. The orders to mobalize had come from the fuhrer himself, and he would never lead the german peoples down the wrong road...he had done too much for them. "Colonel, when are we to go?" One lieutenant called out from the pit of the Panzer I tank. "I do not know Otto, I just saw a bright flash of light, and a radio transmission from Berlin to stand by before we launch Operation: White Rabbit (Polish Invasion) [BTW: I don't remember what the name of the polish invasion operation was called, so don't flame me please!].

"Colonel, we are getting scattered reports from all along the front of strange activity, something about a roman legionnaire banner waving from the streets of Warsaw, the signs have all changed also, the advance SS forces report that the signs are all in...oh I don't believe this... LATIN!" The colonel jumped down from his post atop the tank, and into the belly of the steel beast. "Are you serious Lieutenant?" The lt. only nodded his head. "Oh god in heaven, what is going on?" The crew shrugged their shoulders. "Wait, I have something, the fuhrer has called off Operation: White Rabbit untill we can figure out what has happened, it seems that the italians are no longer quite what they seem either...I'll keep you posted sir." The colonel nodded his head in agreement. "Alright then, Captain Snow, turn this tank around, and bring us back to base, and tell those advance SS units to come back home, that's about all we need...an international incident."

I will not stand for this violation of my sovreignty! :D

(I probably won't hold minor stuff too harshly against you)

I think 20 minutes would be to Quick, the junior officers Monitering the radios and observation posts would just be passing the reports up the laddar. It certanily would have gotten back down to the front line troops yet. That is why I said he would have 2.5 hrs, but doubt that he would call it off.

Remenber Most of Europe is asleep when this happens. most AM [there is no FM] stations Stopped broadcasting at sundown or at midnite. And unless Someone was in Communication with them at the monemt of ISOT, the Germans wouldn't know the emmbasies in other countries had vanished.

Telefono line or Radio- There wasn't the instanst communication net of today.

Also ?how did the advance parties get to the towns in only twenty minutes after the event?

I think this is a confusing one

Everyoneis forgetting that it is Heydrich's men who first go into action against Poland - I've gone and forgotten their damn name, but they're the agent provacatuer dudes, elite undercover chaps who blow up the radio mast, scatter a few corpses and then proclaim a Polish attack

As this happens on German soil, the cassus belli will be there in the minds of the German army

Those monitoring the frontier may well get an indication that something weird has happened - maybe intercepts of Latin radio messages etc, but they are not going to have any idea of HOW weird, and will probably think it some kind of Polish plot

If Berlin notices that the entire global radio network has gone down, or gone haywire (and as stated they may well NOT notice) then again they are far more likely to assume this is some kind of trick, perhaps a British or American trick if it looks large scale.

IMHO even if frontier Poland suddenly looks freaky they would rationalise it to themselves - some kind of Polish secret service operation, perhaps psychological warfare etc

Then they would attack

Only when in contact with the enemy would they realise things have actually and REALLY changed...

0340 Hours- German-Polish Borders

"Colonel Sir, the order to fall back, it wasn't recieved by the air arm or by many of the tank corps, they're already half way to Warsaw by now...what will you tell the fuhrer?" the lieutenant asked. 'Lieutenant, get back to your post, even if we have been ordered to fall back, looks like we're going to be going into poland after all, start up the engines, call up the airbase, give us air support, I want to see poland for myself."

Two Hours Later: Roman Province of eastern Gaul (Poland), capital city of New Rome (Warsaw).

Marcus Arillus sat in his bunker not knowing what was going on. The Gaullic provinces had disappeared, instead, some odd nation flying the broken cross as its flag stood in its place. All over eastern gaul, scattered reports of an invasion were trickeing in, and now, strange aircraft sat above his head, dropping bombs on them. Last time he had checked, any nation that attacked rome was in for a big shock. "Marcus, we've lost contact with rome. It looks like the military is in charge...what are your orders?" Marcus stood for a second, and looked off, a distant look in his eyes. "Contact the invaders, tell them that we wish to negotiate a cease fire. Do it on all known radio frequencies, hopefully they speak the same language as we do..."

Agh. Its not Eastern Gaul! It'd Venedia! Actually, they'd have to go through the province of Burgundia first, in all likelyhood. Also, there is no regional capital. All the provinces transported have their own capitals (except for Dacia), and none is more important than the other. Here's some names of cities (no new rome, this place isn't important enough):
(Poland)
Colonia Juliana (near Brestlitovsk)
Colonia Claudia (roughly where Warsaw is)
Ostia Nova (Gdynia)
(Ukraine)
Vespasianople (Kiev)
Portia Justinia (Kerson)

Furthermore, there is nobody really in charge yet. There are high ranking military officers near the eastern border, but nobody really outranks anyone else (there's a few generals, an admiral or two...). The major parts of the Imperial government have disappeared.

Well, there is Valentius Julianus, son of Imperator Artorius Julianus, who just so happens to be on a PR tour of the area...

But don't write anything about him, just about your germans.

Two weeks after "The Event", city of Colonia Claudia

Roman forces had been scattered. In the two weeks of continuous fighting in the province of Venedia, the forces of the Third Reich had pressed so far into Venedia, that the generals had to evacuate ever third day. Blitzkrieg, it seems, is a success. Colonel Trapp sat atop his Panzer I model tank, debating weather or not to make the final drive into what was deemed to be formerly the capital of their Poland, what was called Warsaw. In the two weeks since Trapp and his tank crossed the border, the fuhrer had been recieving messages that these weren't our polish, and yet, the war continued, he was furious that the fuhrer continued this pointless war with an enemy that he deemed not worthy, but, these weren't slavs, these weren't jews, these were aryans, and Romans at that.

The event haden't just changed some people's minds on the prowess of the world, but about the superiority of the aryan, german race. The capital of Poland, or whatever this nation was called, sat infront of him, behind him, sat ten thousand men, five hundred tanks, and approximately two hundred fighter bombers, dive bombers, and medium bombers, waiting for the final push into the capital. The radio crackled to life. "Colonel Trapp...orders came down from field command, make the push...take the city, leave no standing military units, other than german, in the city, this is to be accomplished by the end of the day, is this understood?" Trapp grabbed the transmitter. "Affirmative, we understand General, we will take it by the end of the day, trapp out."

Trapp looked around, and made a waving gesture. "Heinrich (the radio officer), radio any aircraft overhead to go in for strafing runs, weaken the enemy, we go in now..." Henrich nodded, as he went to work at the transmitter. The men of the third armored division, armed themselves for the final push into the Polish city.

Since I am actually mod of this forum, and since DuQuense is acting on my behalf, I have decided to delete the latter half of the post, both out of respect for General Paul and Dominius. (Thus preserving the quality of the writing). Sorry GP.

I assume we are actually going to have some rules for this ???

Like running things through open debate and some kind of adjudication process ?

I was rather expecting the first in-play day to consist of tentative diplomatic overtures rather than insane armies of conquest...

Ignore his Posting

Whe have a battle Thread where you are suppose to post your forces [each side] then a Moderator decides who won.
THEN you write about the Battle. each side writting from their POV but following the Moderators ruling.

Also as the game wasn't suppose to start till today [oct 3] so everyone had time to post their countries 2wks is more than the opening day[s]

If General Paul plans to continue the Invadsion He and DM need to pick a Moderator and PM each other on the Battle Layouts. IE -what river- large battles or small Units POV. ect. Then post in the battle thread so whe all can comment on the decidsion. That way whe learn to be more realistic in our Battles.

This takes time which is why whe are playing 2wks /month this time. if you are impatcenant go comment on the other Boards, or spend time on the net looking up details to put in our posts.

PS @GP It reads very nice, good writing.
