Ok, so McKinely serves two full terms, and then Bryan tries to get the nomination again in 1904 against the Republican candidate, probably either Admiral Dewey or Elihu Root, I don't think TR could pull it off.

So traditional northern Democrats will probably try to push forward a qualified candidate (more so then OTL due to lack of a Republican incumbent). They will find one, with both him and and Bryan becoming pollarising figures. Hearst, who sought the presidency that year OTL, is a very public important figure, a easterner with Western ties, and has connections with both mainstreme and populist Democratic politics.

I think he could win the eleciton. . .
