What if New Amsterdam remained Dutch?
What kind of influence would it have on the world as we know it?

True, but within a couple of years after the Dutch lost New Amsterdam, a Dutchman (WilliamIII) became king of England and The Netherlands and England became close allies for a century. That could be enough time for the colony to survive (at least it is in my timeline).

Impossible unless an alternate Dutch Empire replaces OTL British Empire - something that is impossible in my opinion. The British, however, would be less strong in North America, so perhaps Nouvelle France survives. Were the Dutch involved in the Seven Years' War, by the way?

Possible in 1667 instead of the Raid on Chatham. It would probably lead to the New Netherlands being restored to the WIC.

It is technically possible as both sides were at war with England at the time, but French aspirations in the Spanish Netherlands meant the Republic was more interested in an alliance with England vs. France.

So the War of Devolution needs to go for that.

Actually, during the third Anglo-Dutch war the Netherlands recaptured New Amsterdam.

Yes, they had conquered it, but prefered to keep Suriname instead. But if they had lost instead, it could be the other way round - they keep Nieuw Amsterdam, and Suriname becomes British. At the beginning, this will hurt the Dutch very much because they don't have the sugar anymore.

During the second Anglo-Dutch war, De Ruyter was leading a punitive expedition from the Meditterenean to West Africa and then across the Atlantic to the Americas. He could have decided to retake New Amsterdam at the end of his journey (1666), but decided his forces were not strong enough as an illustration of his cautious nature.

He could have decided otherwise with high probability of victory as the campaign in West Africa was a stunning succes.
