Primary Religion: Roman Catholic Christianity.
Colonial Interests: The Philippine Islands; Marianas Islands; Caroline Islands; Marshall Islands; Guam; Wake Island.
Population:
--35,000,000 in America
--Approximately 6,000,000 in the colonies
Military:
Regular Army: 50,000 men
Trained Reserves: 250,000
Provincial Militia: 5,000,000
The Kingdom of Aztlan maintains only a small regular army. The army is filled, however, by a system of compulsory service, those who are conscripted (by a lottery system) are required to serve in the reserves...and report for regular refresher training...for ten years after their term of service in the regular army ends. In addition, each province is required to raise and maintain a local defense militia, theoretically composed of all males of military age. In practice, however, there are many exemptions and loopholes in the militia law, and the total militia force numbers far less than the potential manpower theoretically available.
The standard military rifle of the regular army is a variant of the Mauser Model 1871, called the Mauser-Lopez, which incorporates a tubular magazine holding 7 rounds designed by Captain Enrique Lopez of Kingdom of Aztlan's Ordnance Bureau. Thus, unlike it's parent rifle which currently equips the Prussian Army, the Mauser-Lopez is a repeating arm, and Aztlan is one of the few armies as of 1880 to have made this innovation. Like it's parent rifle, however, it fires 11mm cartridges filled with black powder. It is equipped with a standard triangular bayonet. The standard service revolver is a locally designed arm called the Lopez-Castillo, which fires .44 caliber cartridge ammuntion filled with black powder.
Navy:
--4 pre-dreadnaught battleships of the "Reina Isabella" class. This class is comparable to OTL early U.S. Second Class Battleships like MAINE.
--20 old-model ironclad rams dating from 1861-1875.
--20 coast defense monitors.
--30 destroyers
--20 ocean-going cruisers of various types
--40 torpedo boats
