News papers throughout Europe today proclaimed the news:
The Imperial Russian Army has breached the Ottoman lines south of Sofia. The formerly impenetrable network of Ottoman works fell early in the morning three days ago to a determined assault by the Russian Second Army.
In the intervening time Russian forces have advanced as far south as Panagyurshte. Reports of massive Ottoman routes are as yet unconfirmed, but are being widely disseminated by Russian forces and newspapers.
Tsar Nicholas has issued a declaration that Russian forces will not stop again until they reach Constantinople and oust the Turks from that city.
Nations of Europe, your response:
A) This is excellent! Send our congratulations to the Tsar in his defeat of the Turks, its about time they were out of Europe!
B) Do we care? I dont think so. Turks and Slavs, I dont like either.
C) This is terrible! Condem the Russian invasion!
D) This is terrible! Condem the invasion and send forces to help the Turks!

((...Riiight... Because Britain, already knocked out of first place as a world power, would be TOTALLY supportive of a Russian invasion of the Ottoman Empire, seeing as around this time historically they were attacking Russia ON BEHALF of the Ottomans))
Vatican City, Rome
"Yes, our reports confirm that they are indeed heading towards Istanbul," spoke the young officer nervously, kneeling before the Pope. "The Tsar has pledged not to stop until it the Turks are ousted."
"Outrageous," bellowed an old cardinal. "Relations with the Muslims were improving. They were on their way to destroying themselves. Furthermore, why should we support Russians taking a Roman city? Condemn the attacks!"
"Nay, support them, Your Holiness," countered another Prince of the Church. "In fact, my liege, now is the time for reclamation. The Ottoman Muslims will flee before the might of the Russian, Christian army--"
"Russians aren't Christians," growled the apparently-biased older cardinal.
"--and gather all the forces of Christendom together, sire, to reclaim all that the Muslims took from us."
"Would you have us call a crusade?" hissed the older cardinal. "It could be devastating."
"Actually, it may help us considerably," said a Roman politician--a senator in attendance to serve as counsel to the Pope on behalf of the people. "Unify Christians behind a cause--reclaiming the Holy Land and removing the Ottoman and Muslim menace from power--and reap some benefits from it as well. With the Holy Father leading the cry for a European rally against the Muslims, it could help mend our rifts with the Eastern Orthodox and, possibly, the Protestants."
"Hmm..." Pope Julius IV concentrated in deep thought. This was a very messy situation. "How will the French respond?"
This caught the young information minister off-guard. He hadn't thought of that. The general policy of the French, Italians, and the former British Empire would generally be against the Russians. Furthermore, the French could see this as a breach on their sovereignty-- Napoleon III had the Ottomans recognize him as the authority over the Holy Land. Roman Catholics would be mixed up in their responses.
"Await a French response before I issue my statement," said the Pope.

Commenting due to a complaint.

<IC comments snipped for brevitys sake>
Risban, while you have hisory on your side here as far as events in OTL, you need to remember that TTL is operating on a POD that is decades in the past, and as a result, things may and probably will have changed in ways that bear no resembelence to OTL events. So just because it doesn't match (and is basically the opposite of) OTL events is no reason that it couldn't be possible. If you disagree (and it looks like you do :D ) with the other players actions, then give reasoned, orderly arguments as to why it shouldn't happen that way (but without the sarcasm), like you seem to be trying. And cites of your information (not always necessary) are certainly a big help to prove your case.

Muse,
You have been around long enough to know that such comments are not at all helpful or useful in games or in general on this board. That was unnecessary and rude. If you have a problem with another player (or something they said), then you should take it up with the appropriate people, or refute their argument. Telling someone to simply "shut up" adds nothing to this game or board.
