With the passage of an act through the United States Congress that would slowly phase out slavery between 1860 and 1875 by granting financial reimbursement to slave holders in the South, while also banning slavery from expanding into the new territories, several Southern States announced their secession from the Union, citing foul play by Northern Democrats and intrusion of the federal government over state sovereignty.
The first state to announce secession was the stubborn state of South Carolina, soon followed by Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and Louisiana. The rest of the Southern Slave States remained quiet, debating in their state congresses and waiting to see the response of the Pierce Administration to the rebelling states, who had banded together to declare themselves the Confederate States of America.
America's options are the following:
A.) Repeal the Act of Congress and attempt to solve the problem peacefully.
B.) Let the States declare their sovereignty and recognize the Confederacy as a legitimate government, making efforts to coexist with it.
C.) Fight the rebellious states and force them back into the Union.
