A letter was sent from Mexico City to the French capital, addressed to Napoléon himself.
To His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Napoléon the Third of France,

Hello, friend and brother in the Faith, from Mexico. As you surely are already aware, our province of Tejas is currently in rebellion and has been for over a decade. We have been fairly successful in thwarting the rebels, but they continue to fight against us.
However, this is not the reason I have contacted you. Instead, I have come to you with an offer, due to new and frightening circumstances that are unfolding.
The United States of America and their warmongering, land-hungry President have been caught supplying these 'Texans' who have risen up against us. We have been cordial and tried to rectify the situation, but our sources tell us that the United States is pushing ahead with its aggressive policy.
We know too that France and America are not on the best of terms since the last Great War and their land grab of territory that should rightfully be French in Canada.
What I am trying to get at is an offer of alliance between friends, nations with mutal enemies, and above all Brothers in the Faith. In the most likely case that the Americans go to war with our Empire, we wish French support, and would compensate you in supporting your efforts to gain land in the Americas and most anything that you may desire. The Americans are no match for your Empire alone, together we shall be able to crush the upstarts and demand what we wish. The Empire of Mexico wishes for peace, but realizes we must prepare for war. We hope you are in our corner.

Signed,
Custodio de Montaña, Emperor of Mexico, Sovereign of All Mexicans, and etc

OOC: ...sources? You do realize that there isn't a chance in hell that you'd be able to read those diplomatic communiques, and it's kind of cheap to call for an alliance after the USA and Sweden made an alliance of their own, in secret, without the knowledge of anyone. And, it'd be totally pointless for the King of Sweden or President Pierce to be yelling out to the crowds below, "Hey, we just made an alliance with such and such to take out Mexico!"

(OOC:
It makes perfect sense, hes overextended in Texas and the US has been caught supplying the Mexicans with cash. Its just as reasonable as the USA allying with SWEDEN of all people.

If you have further issues with this, make a topic in the IC-related forum. Dont argue in the IC forums.)

Charles Napoleon, self-styled Emperor and unchallenged autocrat of the French, perched himself regaly atop his apolstered seat, taking the firmly sealed communique from the hand of a short-statured aide, who, in his reverence for L'Empereur, shook with a countenance of awe.

Emmitting a low-pitched sigh, Napoleon lowered the letter to his thigh and pondered for a time, scrubbing his jet black mustache with his unoccupied hand. Certainly the potential benefits of a Mexican ally were vast and alluring. After all, Mexico in and of itself was the key to His Excellency's own dreams of Imperial ambition in Latin America. However, the idea of war against a vast and very numerous American nation was not that appealing at all.

Nonetheless, thought Napoleon, now intently gazing into the modestly burning flames of the fireplace before him. I cannot place my, nor France's, Dreams of Glory as a matter of second priority. Certainly the American giant can be humbled.

"Pen and paper. I must write," he ordered after a long silence, pointing his raised finger towards the other side of the room where a lone mahogany table, augmented with quill, ink, and paper, sat unmolested in the dim evening light. At once, the timid messenger raced across the room, grabbing each content delicately, then rushing back to the other side and placing them at the stead of the Emperor who, upon picking up the quill, began to write at a hurried pace.

To His Excellency, Emperor Custodio de Montaña of Mexico,

It is indeed trouble to hear of such unabound travesties and aggressions against that of your country and its peoples. The Yankee Giant, having for too long subjected the whole of the New World to its demands, must be put into its place once and for all.

However, I must confess that, in the event of war with the United States, the Grand Armies of France will be rather unable to lend any sort of substantial aid. Nonetheless, our authorities are more than ready to provide the arms and monetary backing needed to keep Mexico strong in this fateful hour of its history.

Thus, for all intensive purposes, the tidings of friendship and comradery shall be extended. But such arrangements must be kept in the utmost of secrecy for the sake of stability among the world's foremost powers.

May God be with you.

Your Humble Servant,

Napoleon III

In a matter of days, the message, discreetly sealed in a unmarked statchel, was rushed to the French Embassy in Mexico City where France's chief emmisaries in the region would deliver it to the Mexican Emperor himself.

With war now almost an inevitability, notices from the Ministry of War calling for heightened alert were dispatched to French possessions and tributaries across the world. Undoubtedly the American menace would be difficult to subdue, but it was time the Imperial Eagle again re-asserted her dominance over the globe.

The Emperor received the reply with great delight, although also with a touch of fear. Such a quick response could only mean a definitive yes or a stern (and possibly hostile) no. He opened the letter carefully, and was very pleased with the results. Although he had hoped for a promise of direct intervention, it was no matter. At the very least, such a thing would help in the defeat of the Americans. He wrote back to Napoléon to thank him and ask for something in specific, if possible.

To His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Napoléon the Third of France,

Mexico and I are delighted to hear of France's support in this matter and is sure that with the power of the mighty French Empire behind us, we cannot lose. I am also quite willing to keep this alliance a secret as long as possible, of course when war breaks out this will become less necessary.
I do ask for one further thing from Your Majesty, if possible. Mexico's Imperial Navy is in quite poor shape and will hardly be able to compete with the American Navy. However, France has one of the greatest navies on Earth and could surely destroy the Americans as it did against the British so long ago. A successful attack on the capital of the United States, which they have foolishly placed directly on the coast, would surely lead to their downfall. The French need not commit any troops to the effort, but rather ferry a contingent of Mexican soldiers from the Gulf of Mexico to the waters of the Atlantic and finally to the shores of America. Once on land, the Mexican forces will surely be able to defeat the small garrison the foolish Americans will leave behind and destroy their capital. We ask for your assistance in this plan if the time comes, and hopes that you shalt give it.

Your Humble Servant,
Custodio de Montaña, Emperor of Mexico, Sovereign of All Mexicans, and etc
