As the situation in Texas has become dire, and the threat that Manifest Destiny could be hampered and brought to an end by a Mexican victory in Texas, the United States of America's 1855 Conscription Act has brought enough manpower into the US Army, Navy, and Marine Corps to allow the United States to begin long term preparations for war with Mexico within the next one to three years.
Statistics for manpower (ready and untrained) for the Federal Armed Forces of the United States of America:
Federal Army:
Trained-25,000. Untrained: 30,000 (Drafted in the 1856 fiscal year under the 1855 Conscription Act, numbers are projected to drop down to 25,000, then 20,000 for the 1857 and 1858 fiscal years.)
Federal Navy:
100 vessels:
60 Sailing Vessels
40 Steam-Powered Vessels
Contracts with eastern seaboard ship builders have expanded to over 40 new ships to be built and readied for service in the 1857 fiscal year in preparation for the war with Mexico. The ratio of sailing to steam vessels will be 1:1, allowing ship builders time to move over to the newest technological breakthroughs in naval ship design, steam power and breech-loading rifled cannons.
