Hi All,

Does anybody know which current coutries comprised German East Africa?

Tanzania
Burundi
Rwanda

before a mid 1880s exchange, there was also Zanzibar

thanks I finally found a map that showed Tanzania as part of the German east africa, i didn't know about the other two however.

thanks I finally found a map that showed Tanzania as part of the German east africa, i didn't know about the other two however.

They were given to Belgium as compensation for German aggression against the kingdom

Although adjacent to the Congo they ended up as separate political entities eventually

Regarding Zanzibar, I realise it is now part of Tanzania but it was never part of Tanganyika, either German or British. It only joined with Tanzania after independence
