I have been trying to find an outline map of Europe larger than the one I use in the Mithras thread (changes are going outside of that maps borders by now) but more detailed than Ian's world map (where European nations are barely visible). I have downloaded some and tried erasing borders and using them, but either painting doesn't work or it seems to only be subtle shades of gray, or the margins are all bleedy. I also found a map of the world bigger than Ian's but it is so "abstract" it looks like I drew it...and I can't draw!
Anybody got good links or something to email me?

I've been looking for maps recently myself and it's harder than it would seem. I've got a nice map of the continental USA which I've spent the last few days cleaning up and which I'll post here for anyone who wants it. After reading your post Tom I've now gotten one of Europe which I'll clean up over the next few days if you can hold on, (The process isn't differcult, just fiddlely).
Anyway this is where I've been getting my maps from lately:
http://geography.about.com/
And there's this one:
http://eduplace.com/ss/maps/index.html
Which has a nice map that shows not only all the provinces and states of Canada and the USA but also the Mexican states. Unfortunately the maps are in PDF format and I don't know how to format those so they can be altered in paint.

I've got a very large map of Europe which includes parts of Asia Minor and North Africa. It doesn't have any 'bleed' problems, but it only supports a limited color palate - I think that may be keyed into which colors were on it originally. It may be too big to post here; when I get home tonite I'll take a look and see. If I can't post it here, I'll try to upload it to care2.com or somewhere similar (hopefully).

1) here seems to be my color pallette in Edit mode (the colors on the pallette do not change, so you kinda have to memorize this):
BL BR BL GR BL DB DB DB GR BL DB DB DB BL
WH LB BR GR GR LB DB BR BR GR LB LB BR BR
BL=Black
BR=Brown
GR=Green
DB=Dark Blue
WH=White
LB=Light Blue
Whatever you do, do NOT use the Black to fill in spaces...this really messes up the map (it "erases" the lines).
Another problem is that it is kinda TOO big. Posting it speads my text in a long line that you have to scroll to read.
But it is about the best map for 1200 and maybe 1500 in our Mithras TL so far (1800 and 2004 will need a global map).

Hmmm... your pallette seems even more limited than mine. I was able to get black, white, brown, orange, lt & dk green, lt & dk blue, purple, red, and two shades of yellow, to show up on that map.
As far as the size... why not just post the map separately from your text posts? Put it in a post all its own - sure, you'll have to scroll a little to see it all, but you won't have to go back and forth to read the TL.
I still thought it was a pretty damn good map though. I just wish I could remember where I found it...

I figure white for seas, black for borders, and the others for areas (thank God for the four color theorem!).
I will do the text separate, I did not know that at first, of course.

Here's one of Europe (and a shitily drawn Anatolia), including rivers. If anyone has a similar map that covers a wider area (like over to the middle east), I'd do a happy dance. Of death. Yeah. :D
