Unofficially settled and explored by Robert Gray, a New England whaler, Tasmania was formally ceded to the United States (along with Australia, Canada, various Caribbean islands, and Bermuda) following the resounding success of the Second Anglo-American War led by President Alexander Hamilton (1808 – 1820). Tasmania became a center of the Whaling industry and boomed for a while as Grayston became the New Bedford of the Pacific. Following the annexation, not that much else happened on Tasmania, until the exploration of Antarctica kicked off in the 1910’s. Soon, Grayston was the bustling port of Antarctic explorers.

Bombarded twice in its history by the British, the ports of Tasmania entered a period of decline, trading mostly in sheep wool, despite efforts to industrialize the island state. Following the Antarctic War of the early 1980s, a permanent military base was established at Grayston, replacing the west coast of Australia as the center for the US Indian Ocean Fleet. Again, Tasmania entered a lulled period of light activity in the two decades before the Event…

HISTORY:
The history of Yamania began with the migration of members of the Yamana tribe of Tierra del Fuego who managed to follow the whales and seals that formed most of their livelihood south to the Yamana Peninsula (OTL's Antarctic Peninsula). Able to walk barefoot and with only a loincloth in the frigid temperatures of Tierra del Fuego, this branch of the Yamanas needed only to add further articles of clothing to their everyday outfits to survive in the harsh climate and create a society that survived on the rich resources of fish, whales and seals of the peninsula and it's surrounding islands.

The death knell for their people began with the discovery of the Smith Islands (OTL's South Shetland Islands) by British mariner William Smith in 1819 and his return voyage the next year that discovered the Yamana Peninsula itself. In 1830, the British backed the chief of one of the more populous groups of the peninsula in becoming the sole sovereign of the Yamana Peninsula, the Smith Islands and the Bransfield Archipelago (OTL's Palmer Archipelago), forming the Kingdom of Yamania that was largely a British puppet.

The early 19th century saw the gradual dying out of the native Yamanians with the arrival of Europeans and their diseases even as Yamania soon eclipsed Hawaii as a major whaling center with the city of Antarctica in the Smith Islands becoming the major port of call for whaling vessels. The death of the final full blooded Yamanians in the 1890s found Yamania becoming a Crown Colony of the British Empire and the world wars saw Antarctica become a base for Allied ships patrolling the South Atlantic. The early half of the 20th century also saw the first limited exploitation of the coal and mineral deposits of the rest of the Yamanian continent.

In 1970 the independent Republic of Yamania, with it's capital at Antarctica, was formed that soon joined the British Commonwealth and United Nations. Despite the colonial ambitions of other countries, Yamania's territory includes the entirety of the Yamanian continent. The country's economy depends mainly on fishing and it's ever expanding mining industry though scientific research and tourism also play a role. Though it encompasses an entire continent, Yamania has one of the smallest resident populations in the world that's concentrated mostly in the Yamana Peninsula and it's surrounding islands. It's military is only a small National Guard that is used mostly to hunt for outlaw whalers, the job of national defense depending mostly on the United Kingdom and Australia.

HISTORY:
Britain embarked on a very different route to empire as the House of Tudor stayed allied to Spain’s Habsburg line. Queen Mary gave birth to a son, Henry IX, in 1555. Britain remained Catholic and over the next century grew closer and closer to Spain. Portugal was absorbed by Spain in the 1590s with British support. The Spanish Netherlands were annexed by France in 1605, securing Angouleme and later Bourbon power on the Continent. With no Dutch trading empire, Britain filled the role instead. The South Pacific was split between Spain and Britain; France dominated in India. In the Far East, Nobunaga allied himself with the British and secured power. His backing of Jesuit missionaries continued, and by 1650, when Japan became a British colony, some 45 % of Japanese were Catholic.

Japan gained independence in 1830 as industrialization created a vocal and independent middle class who lobbied for an independent Japanese Empire. The split was amicable for the most part, and Japan remained a staunch ally of Britain against a growing Franco-Chinese alliance. As Spain’s power waned throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, Britain absorbed most of her overseas colonies; Japan inherited most of these (including the New Hebrides – OTL Philippines) in the 1850s and 1860s.

In 2004, the Empire of Japan was a constitutional monarchy closely allied with Britain and the Republics of Mexico and Virginia against the repressive Franco-Chinese Continental Alliance. The New Hebrides was one of Japan’s richest provinces, with a significant agricultural base, strong defense and computer industries, and one of the highest standards of living in the Empire.

TECHNOLOGY: Roughly equivalent to OTL with certain areas, notably structural engineering and fusion technology, 10-20 years ahead.

HISTORY:
These two provinces are from the same TL (and are part of the same Imperial Japan) as the New Hebrides (Oceania 1). After the Mosaic Event, they decided to join the Republic of the New Hebrides rather than try to strike out on their own. A nephew of the Japanese Emperor was vacationing on Kalimantan (OTL Borneo) when the event happened, and a faction that is discontented with the present government is plotting a coup with the hopes of installing the Imperial Nephew as a puppet ruler...

This Austrailia is from the same TL that the PKH is from, although more militant due to the closeness it shares with member-states of the American Union of States. The reason that it is militant derives from a series of wars that they engaged in over the issue of "freeing" Indonesia from "terrorists". Although the American Union of States did experience a revolution in the treatment of member nation-states, this did not really lower the tension between the two nations. By 2004, Australia has annexed Indonesia as part of Austrailia, and is very keen on limiting any AUS expansion in the South Pacific. (It should also be noted that much of the tension has been altered towards China, who broke off from the AUS from the revolution)

The Kingdom of Hawaii is from a Hawaii in where the Kingdom of Hawaii recieved economic compensation from the takeover in 1834. This led to monarchy becoming more aware of the added gift to self-sovereignty, thereby providing the increasement of the Royal Guard. By the Attempted Takeover in 1898, the Guard had become a seperate entity in it's own right, enabling the defeat of conspirators (such as Stanford Dole). Of course such handling of American civilians lead to the talks with the US government with the end result of Hawaii becoming a "protectorate" of the US but still having it's own unique system of government. (Queen Lil'o'kalani kept her power as "monarch" but a representative position was created in order to preserve the ties with the US)

When Pearl Harbor was attacked on Dec. 7th, 1941, much of the government had evolved on the tracks of a commonwealth system with an increased US federal presence. This evolution was soon canceled with the military declaring a state of emergency with the elected government suspened. However, the monarchy was kept due to the risk involving the Royal Guard, which by this time had also evolved along the lines of the National Guard. By the end of WW2, much of the power that had been assigned to the monarchy had been reduced down to the level that of what a govenor might have.

Today the Kingdom of Hawaii works under a hybrid government system in which the native royalty is preserved even though much of the legislative power is handled by the Senate and House of Representatives. The current monarch, King Kuhio IV, is more of a “common man” than his predecessors and has lead to a revival of Hawaiian culture as well as educational system. However, there is much controversy surrounding several key members of the City Council under investigation of bribery and graft. Both the FBI as well as the Royal Guard (in function as a law enforcement agency) are pursuing the matter further.

History: This timeline introduces a terrible plague into the pacific islands sometime shortly after the first humans arrived there. The plague was worst on OTL New Caledonia, still called by the natives "Plague Island", and OTL Fiji, which was only sparsely inhabited for many years. To continue the species, there was much interbreeding within families, which caused several genetic mutations, some of which are still prevalent today. For example, the native-descended men of the New Brittany Islands (OTL Vanatu) are a bit more feminine-looking than their OTL counter parts, and less strong. However, rumors that they look "just ilke girls" are simply overestimated. The plague did not leave the South Pacific area, and did eventually die out. The islands laid isolated from the modern world, until 1783, when the French General Jean-Phillipe Lapointe discovered the island chain today called New Brittany. The french never settled there, and later, when the United States, believeing it's manifest destiny was to "spread across the world, and spread the seed of democracy", took over the island, as well as much of Australia. The Americans destroyed much of the island's native culture, and no native villiages remain in 2004. The state of Pacifica is dependent on tourism for it's well-being.

History: After the Vietnam War and collapse of South Vietnam, the USA attempted to move many of the South Vietnamese who would go to the Island of New Caledonia, which in this TL was uninhabited by humans. Unfortunately, the US could only get about 400,000 on a large fleet of ships, and several sunk on the trip. Modern-day New Vietnam is a struggling province of the United States, which was supposed to declare the island independent by 1995, but has not done so.

Corjos (Army): 2 slougoi (divisions), one of which is of medium infantry, inluding one regiment of mountain-wilderness troops called Wailosecjâs (wolf-skins). Wailosecjâs are of elite quality, others are green to seasoned. The second slougos is of green light infantry. All troops have some training in guerrilla tactics. Also, every adult in the nation has some training in rifle use, and is part of the local militia. Militia troops are of poor quality and armament, but there are a lot of them.

Navy: a lot of coastal defense boats, and a couple each of destroyers, cruisers, and battleships.

Air Force: 120 aircraft, some of fairly poor quality.

Technology level is hard to work out as few will have what was the most high tech at the end of the world, it is certainly somewhere around mid 20th century level.

World has become very populated (15 billion) thus the population has taken to the sea. Man-made islands have improved, and the use of houseboats has also increased as well. Submarine populations have also increased. Other land building/enhancing technologies have arisen. The main source of power is Solar-nuclear power (Hafnium radiation from solar power), main form of transportation is an automobile/train hybrid.
The world contains over 10,000 city-states, and all larger powers are simply alliances or federations of smaller city-states. The prominent forces being: The Grand Association of European Nations; The United American States; The Commonwealth of Asia; and The Southern American Conference. Space travel is achievable 50 conglomerates (groups of nations). Technology level is at a 2007 (present TL).
Nation Info:
The CSSI consists of 600 natural islands, and 400 man made islands. A Viceroy, with the help of a council, administers each district, which is composed of ten islands. Ten districts compose a region, administered by a Lt. Governor and a group of representatives. Each of the ten regions sends representatives to the capitol, Palikir. A mayor heads an Island. The Governor, Lt. Governors, Viceroys, and Mayors are all elected by popular vote to eight-year terms. Local units have a high level of autonomy.
The CSSI's main industry comes from the Merchant marine and civil air transports it has, as well as its numerous refueling ports. It also offers spaceport services to foreign nations that are in despite need of land for their space programs.
Military service is 'required' by family tradition, so it is hard to find a citizen who hasn’t served. Those who are unable to usually enter the service as civilian administrators. In most wars, the military serves as escorts for the merchant traffic; rarely does the CSSI enter battle. The military consists of six services: Navy (Maritime defense), Army (land defense/police), Aero-Navy/Sky force (Aerial defense), Marine corps (Naval infantry), Naval Auxiliary (government vessels), and the Merchant Marine (Trade). Much industry is organized by the military of the Confederation. Military culture permeates the structure of every day life.
Religion in the CSSI is mostly Christian (Roman Catholic and Protestant), although there is a major presence of sea-folk lore. Most families attend services, and are active within their communities. Children attend school until 13, where they then attend a vocational school. Most then enter the military for usually 10 years, and then enter their respective trades.
The CSSI has ten major airports, and almost every island has some sort of regional airports. There are twenty-five major seaports. The CSSI currently leases five spaceports to the United American States, The Commonwealth of Asia, and the South American Conference.

History
In the TL of this nation Australia was settled sooner (1783) and more emphasis was placed on free settlers as opposed to convicts. History proceeds more or less as pre OTL but Federation occures in 1889 rather than 1901. Post federation the white Australia policy is still implimented althought designed in such a way as to allow more non-Anglo Saxon europeans in. Australia orders 3 15in gunned BCs in 1912, one is transfered to the british, one oppertates under Australia command in WW1 and one is completed in 1919. Post WW1 Australia continues to build up its fleet and improve its industrial capacity. In the washington treaty the RAN is accepted as a sepprate antity and so can maintain its substanitial fleet (2 BCs, 1 CV, 2 CAs, 4 Cls and light forces). This fleet and the other branches played a major role in WW2 and, unlike OTL, Australian forces did not get relegated to the more minor campaigns in the latter half of WW2. As the war dragged into 1946 while the US stockpiles 15 nukes for a final bombing campaign, Australian forces carried out a number of daring raid on Japan, even managing to capture a Japanese cruiser! Post war Australia continued to play a major role engaging in the Korean war, Australiasian war (OTL Malay emergancy) and Vietnam. Australia has developed into a major regional power, and while allied with the USA is remarkably independent.

Military: As of now: none, defense is limited to acts of terror and vandalism. However, a 250-500 man militia is planned.
Technology: 1970's (CSSI is late 2000's, however it is a newly formed colony, and the CSSI isn’t eager to furnish the Manuiti portion)
Disputes: The Confederation does not recognize the Manuiti claims of independence, or the territorial claim. It has granted the Manuiti autonomy as long as no more acts of violence are committed. The Confederation has announced that if the Manuiti continue the violence, they will be removed.

Other: Confederations citizens make up 50 percent of the islands population (note this figure does not include Manuiti area) It is expected to become autonomous in 3 months. The people are to vote for independence at the same time. It is expected that they will opt for becoming a protectorate.

History: The Islands were uninhabited after the relocation, and clamed by the Confederation of South Sea Islands. The CSSI built airstrips and ports for commercial and military purposes. A cult claimed to have divine right to the islands, and preformed terror attacks against Confederation citizens. A task force was sent and removed the Mauniti's Militia. The Citizens voted for independence a month later. After independence, a period of temporary conscription was/is in effect, all aircraft and sea craft owners is under conscription. The A.I. recently signed a treaty with the CSSI and the Dominion of Australia giving it civil control of the islands of New Britain and New Ireland.
