WARNING: This timeline goes out of its way to be offensive!
2053 The Federal Cold-Fusion Plant blows up, flattening most of the northwestern United States. When it is found that the disaster was caused by human error, all hell breaks loose. Most of the employees at the plant were black, and African-American leaders immediately accuse the government of racism. The government retracts it findings, leading many to accuse it of cowardice. Anti-NAACP demonstrations take place in many large U.S. cities.
2054 In an attempt to assert its position, the Federal government begins passing laws intended to stem the tide of political incorrectness. Freedom of speech is effectively stamped out as a Federal censor's approval is now required for all forms of media and citizens are urged to spy on each other. The white population begins for feel more and more unwelcome in their own country. The Supreme Court has now fully become a tool of special interests, issuing rulings that are obviously biased toward the Left.
2055 There are indications that Mexico is planning to attack the United States. The government denounces the reports and arrests those who give them, condemning them as racists. Throughout the U.S. young kids are being forced to learn Spanish in order to accomodate Mexican immigrants, who are no longer required to enter the country through legal channels. In fact, people are increasingly pressured into turning a blind eye to the immigrants' activities.
On May 5, nuclear devices go off in cities all throughout the southwestern U.S. The Mexican army invades and begins an ethnic cleansing campaign against whites living in the war zone. An angry Congress declares war on Mexico and, after two weeks of fighting, the U.S. military drives the Mexicans out. Mexico surrenders and is harshly punished, having to pay heavy reparations and accept U.S. officials into its borders to monitor their government on a regular basis. The short war has killed 10 million U.S. citizens and the government is not in a forgiving mood. It orders all noncitizens out of the country and announces there will be no further immigration into the U.S.
Pent up anger erupts, and riots breaks out all over the country, leading to martial law being declared. Many of the rioters, especially those in the south, accuse the government of letting Mexico off too easy. Others have taken it upon themselves to revive the issue of the Cold-Fusion explosion. And some just want their civil rights back. The economy collapses under the strain, leaving millions without jobs.
Fed up with their leaders' incompetence, the military siezes topples the civilian government and declares the constitution abolished. When it becomes clear the Marine Corps will not go along with this, the new regime issues orders its destruction. Militias in the western state join the Marines in opposing military rule. The regime is forced to cancel all overseas commitments in order to deal with this revolt.
2056-2059 After crushing the Marine/Militia Insurrection, and the rebellion is now called, the Regime finds itself dealing with lesser uprisings over the course of four years. Nonetheless, the country has enough breathing room to recover from the events of 2055.
2060-2061 The states that made up the Confederate States during the Civil War secede from the Union once again. At first, the Regime doesn't take the secession seriously, figuring the states will come to their senses and abandon their course of action. Then comes a rude awakening: the rebellious states form a new country, the Neo-Confederacy. By the time the U.S. moves against them, the Neo-Confederates have managed to build a formidable defense force.
2061-2065 The Second War for Southern Independence: after four years of fighting, the U.S. defeats the Neo-Confederacy and reannexes its states. Unlike the Union government of the 1860s, the Regime makes no conciliatory gestures; the rebel leaders are lined up and shot. After the war, the Regime issues an order to reconstitute the Marine Corps, its lack of one put it at a disadvantage during the war. The U.S. breaks off all relations with the European Union in retaliation for the latter having recognized the Neo-Confederate government.
Should I continue, stop, or be banned forever? :D

2066 The Regime announces plans to restore civilian rule to the U.S. by the end of 2070. It invites resistance leaders to the capital to help set up a new government. At first they are reluctant - fearing it may be a trap - but they ultimately agree, deciding they have nothing more to lose. Upon their arrival, they are escorted to a room in the White House, which had been abandoned over a decade earlier. Before leaving them to their work, the Chairman of the Joints Chiefs tells them, "You have five years to make this work. Your country's counting on you."
2067 After a year's worth of debate, the former resistance leaders - now known as the National Planners - have reached a surprising conclusion: the United States should be replaced! The main problem with the country, they believe, is that it is a republic. Using all kinds of simulations and theories, they have determined that a monarchy is an essential part of any long-lasting nation. They propose that the U.S. be made a kingdom and renamed "Free-Land," in honor of the fact that its people would be free. This brings up one question: would a truly free society have to constantly remind itself of its own freedom? There is no answer.
After reviewing the National Planners' proposal, the Regime green-lights the Kingdom of Free-Land. The first steps in the process are the end of martial law and the release of all political prisoners. The next order of business is to restart tax collection; Mexico has finished paying reparations to the U.S. The BUreau of Federal Revenue is established as a replacement for the long-discredited IRS. The BFR proves efficient enough that the national infrastructure begins to return to its pre-2055 state.
2068 Acting on the National Planners' recommendations, the Regime declares null and void all U.S. territorial claims outside the 48 and the District of Columbia. Hawaii reasserts its independence and Alaska becomes part of Canada. Puerto Rico signs a defense/trade agreement with Cuba. Most of the other territories are absorbed into neighboring countries.
Meanwhile, more changes are made to the Federal government: the Regime-era Civil Administrator is given the title of Prime Minister and the cabinet departments are now known as Ministries. Parliment, consisting of an appointed Upper House and an elected Lower House, is also established. A commission is charged with finding a man who would be the most suitable ruler of this new kingdom. Eventually, they are able to introduce the future King of Free-Land to the National Planners.
2068-2069 Former Neo-Confederate soldiers, now calling themselves the Southron Partisans, rise in revolt against their "damn Yankee oppressors". It takes over a year to put down this rebellion. Fortunately, it does not disrupt the Regime's timetable for the transfer of power.
2069 The future-King continues to receive his education on being a good monarch, even as the National Planners begins drafting a constitution. In the mean time, Parliment begins passing temporary laws to ensure Free-Land's smooth functioning. The Regime aids this process by formally renouncing its role in the legislative process, as well as handing over to Parliment all control over the Prime Minister and his cabinet.
2070 Parliment ratifies the constitution, officially bringing the Kingdom of Free-Land into being. With the United States abolished, the Regime has no further purpose and steps down; the new Joint Chiefs of Staff swear an oath of allegiance to the King of Free-Land. The rest of the military quickly follows suit. The National Planners, their work done, disband and return to private life. The years ends with the official crowning of the King of Free-Land.
2071-2072 The Two-Years War: the European Union takes advantage to Free-Land's perceived weakness to invade. The Europeans manage to overrun most of New England before eventually being driven out. Weakened by seventeen years of near-constant war, the military is unable to take the fight to Europe, and the war ends without a formal peace treaty.
To be continued, unless you pay me $10,000!

Actually, "Free Land" is a pretty good translation of "Thailand," which is, after all, a monarchy. The country (formerly known as Siam, a Khmer word meaning "peninsula") received its current name in 1939 when Luang Plaek Phibunsongkhram (aka Field Marshall Phibun) had it changed, to emulate Deutschland, which was his model.

2073 Now secure on his throne, the King issues his first royal decree, calling for reduced role for women in the military. Also, the provincial (formely state) governors are to be elected by their respective legislatures, not the people.
On June 22, Parliment passes a law establishing the Zeitgeist Regulatory Office. The PR surrounding this new agency makes it out to be entirely passive, restricting itself to distributing state announcements. Those who suspect otherwise keep their fears to themselves.
It has been twenty years since the Cold-Fusion Plant explosion. The tenth anniversery had gone unnoticed due to the war that was then being fough against the Neo-Confederacy. The nation is finally able to put this disaster behind it.
China and Canada announce their merger into a single country: the Nation of Hockey-Rice. Free-Land's government protests this move, but to no avail. Hockey-Rice states its intention to respect its neighbor's boundaries, but many in Free-Land don't believe them.
With the emergence of this new enemy, Free-Land and the European Union finally make peace and begin planning for a possible war with Hockey-Rice. However, most hope for a peacful resolution to the situation. The European Union and the Kingdom of Free-Land settle into a cold war with the Nation of Hockey-Rice.
2074 The ZRO's power is expanded, giving it the authority to investigate - and prosecute - those suspected of plotting to subvert the prevailing paradigm. Another agency, the Existential Seafood Police, is established by royal decree. The ESP's very purpose is a state secret.
The High Court begins to put limits on when sexual harrassment lawsuits can be filed, and how much can be awarded to plaintiffs. Appeals are filed, but all are ignored.
The ZRO and ESP set up offices in every major city in Free-Land. D.C. and the provincial capitals get top priority. Along with the RBI (Royal Bureau of Investigation), these agencies keep a constant eye on subjects throughout the country.
The King issues another decree, this one granting provincial governments authority to decide when and if a woman should have an abortion. The relative lack of opposition to this move worries some, but they are disregarded.
2075 The Mexico's government collapses, and Free-Land takes advantage of this to annex the country. Any resistance is brutally put down. The Europeans stand by their ally as the world condemns this move. Hockey-Rice responds by sending an additional 100,000 troops to its North American provinces.
2076 While resettling what had once been the northwestern U.S., Free-Land catches Hockey-Rice agents trying to infiltrate though the old U.S.-Canadian border. Free-Land declares war on Hockey-Rice, and the Europe soon joins them.
2076-2086 The North American War: After ten years of bloodshed, the war ends with neither Hockey-Rice nor the Free-Land/European alliance gaining or losing any ground. By this time, both sides have forgotten how the conflict started.
2086 Provincial governments begin to pressure married women into staying at home unless their husbands are unable and/or unwilling to work. Complaints to the Federal government are met with silence. Feminists begin to question the Kingdom's commitment to women's rights.
2087-2091 The Mexican resistance manages to incite yet another anti-U.S./Free-Land rebellion. It takes five years to re-pacify the provinces, and the government to barely avoids deciding to use nuclear weapons against the rebels.
2092 With the military's casualty rates at an all-time high, the government goes into overdrive to get people to enlist. Enlistment bonuses are increased 60% and combat pay goes up 40%.
The Chairman of the Joints Chiefs (from 2055 to 2070) dies of a heart attack. He leaves behind a son and two daughters, his wife having preceded him in death a year earlier. Many condemn him for having led the Regime, but there in no denying his influence on recent history.
By year's end the Royal Court has received a warning: the Demographics Commission predicts a "Baby Crash" within a few generations unless certain steps are taken. The government quietly adopts a "long-term agenda".
More to come ...

2093-2100 A rare stretch of peace for Free-Land and its subjects. The King continues his string of royal decrees; women are prohibited from smoking or drinking while pregnant, the ZRO is given the power to search and sieze without a warrant, and the ESP is authorized to carry out extrajudicial executions. There is no appreciable opposition to any of this.
Relations between Free-Land and Hockey-Rice begin to normalize as a result of both sides' desire to restore diplomatic and trade relations. That, and Hockey-Rice has more pressing commitments in Asia, while Free-Land's economy can no longer support constant warfare. The two countries re-opened what had once been the U.S.-Canadian border and at once both economies began to benefit from tourism.
By 2098, Free-Land, Europe and Hockey-Rice begin to lobby for the establishment of a replacement for the United Nations. Over the next three years the U.N. loses more and more member nations, until it ceases to exist altogether. Unfortunately, no one is able to come up with a workable replacement, and international conflicts begin to intensify.
At the end of the century, the King dies of natural causes. His designated successor takes the throne, vowing to carry on the late King's work, as well as take the Kingdom is a bold new direction. What exactly this means is anyone's guess. However, the King sits uneasy on his throne; his predecessor had predicted that there would be troubled times for the Kingdom of Free-Land ...

At some point you might have the Existential Seafood Police install the Automatic Executors. These are machines installed in doorways, lightpoles, walls etc. which can read minds, identify anti-government conspirators and instantly execute the offenders.
Actually, they just go off at random and kill innocent passerby but noone knows this. Since the victim's family and associates are also rounded up there is little objection. People are stunned at both the extent of the conspiracy and the government's efficient response to it.
Also is Hockey-Rice consistent? Combining Maple Syrup and Rice we get Maypo, the first country named after a children's breakfast cereal.

Machines are far too prone to breakdown and tampering for the government's purposes. No, ESP agents prefer that their duties be carried out by people, who can improvise if things go wrong.
Also is Hockey-Rice consistent? Combining Maple Syrup and Rice we get Maypo, the first country named after a children's breakfast cereal.
"Maypo" was in fact one of many names proposed (and rejected) for the Sino-Canadian nation before they settled on Hockey-Rice. Mind you, the nation's founders were drunk when they picked that name.

2101 European forces overrun and occupy Israel. The European Union announces it is annexing the country, with or without its people's consent. Enraged, the Arab Federation declares war on Europe.
After two months of resistance, Argentina if forced to surrender to Brazil, giving the latter country complete control of South America. Brazil soon takes over Cuba and Puerto Rico as well.
Hockey-Rice invades Korea, Japan and Indo-China. All three are quickly erased from the map.
Not wanting to be left out, Australia attacks New Zealand. Occupying the country is the easy part. Dealing with the Kiwi Resistance is much harder.
Free-Land's government reaches a compromise with Mexican rebels: Mexico will be reconstituted as a semi-autonomous viceroyalty. The only condition is that the Viceroy must crack down on any and all independence movements. The Viceroyalty of Mexico is officially created on July 4 2101. To everyone's suprise, Mexico is restored to its pre-1845 borders. This leads to a mass exodus as people leave the retroceded area to resettle in Free-Land's remaining territory.
2102 The Ministry of Social Welfare is established by an Act of Parliment. The ZRO, ESP and BFR are attached to this ministry, as well as a new agency: the Office of Social Health Restoration. OSHR's purpose is to oversee facilities where the "socially unhealthy" are to be "treated". No one dares call them what they are: re-education centers.
2104 The Arabs drive the Europeans out of Israel, and the war ends soon afterward.
With its economy in the toilet, Russia is forced to sell Siberia to Hockey-Rice. Russia then begins to fragment as rebellions break out all over the country.
2105 Russia disintegrates entirely and is replace by a number of warring states, one of which is run by the Russian Mafia.
On May 5, pro-independence rallies take place all over Mexico. Despite many people's fears, the Viceroy demonstrates his loyalty to Free-Land by personally ordering the breakup of these crowds and the arrest of anyone who resists. This sets off a week of rioting, but the government's point is made.
Free-Land observes the 50th anniversery of the Regime's takeover of the old United States. The King takes advantage of this to lift the decades-long ban on the Republican and Democratic parties. It's a moot point by now, as the two parties have long since ceased to exist.
2106 Eager for some quick cash with which to fund its ambitions, Brazil sells Cuba and Puerto Rico to the Kingdom of Free-Land.
Australia unveils its new national motto: "Foster is NOT Australian for beer!"
2107-2124 Over the next eighteen years, Free-Land's Parliment passes a number of laws:
1] Alimony and child support are abolished.
2] Spanking is specifically authorized as a means of disciplining one's children.
3] The RBI is given the right to call in the Army as backup when it deems it necessary.
4] The TV and movie industries are nationalized.
5] The District of Columbia is declared off-limits to private citizens; the now-deserted capital is to be replaced with an Army boot camp and an OSHR treatment center.
6] Finally, in child custody cases involving a divorced couple, the courts are all but told to favor the child's father unless he is clearly an unfit parent.
These acts are spaced out far enough apart that hardly anyone notices the changes.
Other than that, the next eighteen years are uneventful for Free-Land and its subjects.
The rest of the world is not so lucky. The Indian Empire goes to war with the Arab Federation over a border dispute. The war ends with the two sides destroying each other's major cities with nuclear weapons. No funtioning government survives in either country.
With the fall of the Arab Federation, the Europeans move in and take over Isreal. In a twist of fate, the European settlers soon find themselves living in fear of Israeli suicide bombers.
The Brazilian Empire takes over Hawaii for use as a base of operations. When Australia balkanizes, the Brazilians take the opportunity to occupy New Zealand as well.
By the end of 2124, it seems that everyone is expecting something big to happen in the near future.

2125 The King of Free-Land is assassinated by a radical feminist. In the aftermath, her faction is outlawed and they soon find themselves being hunted down by national law enforcement. The last of them are captured by month's end by the RBI, with the Army's assistance. Members of similar groups soon begin to disappear. Many suspect the involvement of the ESP, but there is no official comment.
As a precaution, the new King issues a "temporary" royal decree which forbids women to use or possess firearms except on official government business. All over the country, police and RBI agents are given blank warrants to search homes and businesses to ensure that the decree is being followed. In practice, it quickly becomes rather uncomfortable for a woman to be single or to live alone.
The Russian Mafia succeeds in reuniting their country. The Russian State, while better off than it was a decade ago, is still among the poorest nations in the world.
2126 The European Union sends teams of soldiers and intelligence agents into the former Arab Federation to see what they can salvage from the ruins. They are soon extorting resources from the local population. Often, as soon as a community gives all it can, it is wiped out by the blood-thirsty intruders. This in NOT authorized by the EU, but they somehow manage to never find out about it.
The Nation of Hockey-Rice begins colonizing the moon. With this, it officially becomes the most advanced nation on Earth. As such, it lays sole claim to space. Any vessel belonging to another country which attemts to leave the atmosphere is to be destroyed. There is an international uproar, but ultimately nothing comes of it.
2127-2130 The Brazilian Empire overruns the continent of Australia. It takes four years to fully pacify it.
2130 The nations of Africa, fearing conquest by either Brazil or Hockey-Rice, put their differences aside and form the African Alliance. The Alliance immediately claims what's left of Egypt as part of its territory.
2131 Hockey-Rice's lunar colony officially becomes a province, entitled to full representation in the Sino-Canadian Congress. This is made possible by relatively cheap and easy travel between Earth and the moon (increasing known as Terra and Luna).
2131-2134 The Europeans stumble into Egypt and find themselves at war with the Africans. The war ends with the European Union being kicked out of Israel yet again.
2134 Meanwhile, in Free-Land, Parliment passes the Sexual Purity Act, restricting sexual intercourse to married couples only. The Ministry of Justice is authorized the enforce this as it sees fit. The Ministry established the Sexual Purity Administration, which will serve as the enforcers of the new law.
2134-2136 India manages to more or less rebuild itself; many of its cities are still empty, and much of its territory has drifted into defacto independence, but the country is functioning at an acceptable level. Pakistan, Bangledesh, Burma and Sri Lanka have long since resumed their independence, and can easily fend off an attack from what's left of India.
2137-2148 Nothing major happens, although the prevailing trends continue. Free-Land's Ministry of Defense is given shocking orders from the Prime Minister: women are no longer to be allowed to join the armed forces. Those women are already in the military are to be kept from the front lines and limited to support roles. The Defense Minister disagrees strongly with these orders, but there's nothing that can be done.
Meanwhile, fears that Hockey-Rice would conquer the world are proving unfounded. The nation is in fact rapidly losing interest in terrestrial affairs as it devotes more of its time and resources to space. There are rumors that they have discovered the secret to faster-than-light travel, but reputable scientists dismiss this as nonsense.
2149-2151 The European Union fights a vicious civil war, as its constant failures begin to take there toll. Also, there are those who want the EU to pay reparations the Arabs, who had been abused and murdered by European incursion teams. The EU holds together, but only just.
2152-2160 The African-European War: the African Alliance invades - and conquers - the European Union over the course of several years. No one really misses the EU.
Women's rights in the Kingdom of Free-Land continue to erode. The King has made his "temporary" decree permanent, as well as issuing some new ones. Women are barred from holding public office, and can no longer vote in national elections. All women still in the military are discharged, and the armed forces are officially barred from allowing women into their ranks. Finally, wives are made legally the property of their husbands.
Naturally, Free-Land's women are NOT about to take this lying down. An underground movement is founded to oppose the Kingdom's policies. It increasingly seems a confrontation is inevitable.

2161 Riots break out all over the Kingdom of Free-Land. This is accompanied by bombings of government buildings and fighting between the Army and the National Militia (many of them illegally armed women). These events mark the beginning of the Free-Land Civil War.
The Brazilian Empire and the African Alliance go to war over Australia. Despite the Africans' efforts, their troops never manage to set foot in Australia. By the time the war ends, nearly three million have been killed.
The Hockey-Rice Navy commissions a fleet of FTL ships to explore neighboring solar systems. Many see this as the first step toward resettling the entire nation on a new homeworld. Others wish to simply exploit the outlying planets' resources. Some, naturally, just want to see what's out there. In any case, the Intersystem Fleet has no trouble filling all of its positions.
The Viceroyalty of Mexico quietly resumes its independence, and Free-Land is too preoccupied to do much about it. The former Viceroy calls for a constitutional convention.
2162 The final step in the "long-term" agenda is taken; the King of Free-Land issues a royal decree competely stripping women of citizenship. The ZRO goes to great lengths to silence opposition to this measure. The King also recognizes Mexico's independence, allegedly as a token of his generosity. The truth is, the Kingdom had never been able to properly assert its authority over the Viceroyalty, and it was becoming an embarrassment.
Unable to take Australia, the Africans settle for an alternate route of conquest. Within a month, it occupies much of the former Arab Federation. The Arabs put up little resistance.
2163 The King of Free-Land dies suddenly. It is later determined that his food was poisoned. His successor orders an investigation. The kitchen staff is found to be the guilty parties. Under interrogation, they confess to being National Militia sypmathizers. They are publicly beheaded a month later.
Free-Land sells Cuba and Puerto Rico to Mexico; the islands are of no value and the subjects are too restless. That, and Free-Land's government is starting to go into debt.
By year's end, the Ministry of Defense estimates that nearly 30% of the countryside is controlled by the National Militia.
2164 The Intersystem Fleet sends its first FTL ship to Alpha Centauri. The ISV Ontario will not return to Terra until 2172.
Frustrated with the Army's lack of success with the National Militia, the King of Free-Land sends in the Marines. Much of the countryside is pacified, but the rebellion is far from over.
Unable to function as an independent nation any longer, India requests to be annexed to the Nation of Hockey-Rice. This request is quickly granted. Pakistan, Bangladesh, Burma and Sri Lanka respond by entering into a mutual-defense pact. They are under no illusion that they can stand up to Hockey-Rice, but they wish to make clear that they won't submit willingly.
2165-2169 The National Militia is dealt a crushing blow, and it disbands in the plains of Texas. Its members are to escape to wherever they can find safety. Sadly, over half of them are captured by government forces. Most of them face either execution or internment in OSHR Treatment Centers. By the end of 2169, the civil war is officially declared to be over.
Having put the War of 2161 behind them, the Brazilians and Africans devide Antarctica between themselves. The African Zone is to be used for secret research projects, and the Brazilian Zone as a means of internal exile for political opponents.
2170-2172 The Mexican Republic takes over the Central American nations, declaring its intent to "liberate" their citizens. Most people find this amusing at best.
To prevent any further acts of terror by "the militant feminists and their male sympathizers," Parliment passes a controversial Act: the penalty for any murder committed by a woman shall be her death, as well as those of one hundred other women, to be randomly selected. Many, careful to make sure the ZRO cannot hear them, remark that the Kingdom of Free-Land no longer deserves its name.
The ESP's budget is tripled and, as with all things regarding this agency, information regarding how this money will be spent is off-limits to the public.
According to most estimates, the Nation of Hockey-Rice remains the most advanced nation on Terra; no one else has ever left the solar system. The Brazilian Empire and the African Alliance are decades behind, and the rest of the world isn't even worth mentioning anymore.
The ISV Ontario returns from Alpha Centauri, bringing a load of information back with it. Plans are made to send out the other ISVs to more distant systems.
While Hockey-Rice hails its newest heroes, the Kingdom of Free-Land is left to wonder, "What went wrong?"
That's the end of the timeline. Any questions? Comments? LET THE FLAMING BEGIN! :D
