What would lead Nazi Germany to follow through with its invasion plan for Ireland?

Even greater insanity than they demonstrated historically;)

It was said that they seriously considered it. Less defended than Britain and not exactly friendly to the British. The UK actually came up with a counterplan to it, Plan W.

De Valera, who had huge influence, would certainly call for total resistence. He would have cooperated with the UK.

In OTL, contrary to propaganda, Irish neutrality was incredibly pro ally,

Might this have changed relations with the North?

Yeah, I know, I was reading about it on wikipedia. There was a vague offer during the war to give the six counties to Eire if they joined the Allies.

There's a scenario about this on ChangingTheTimes, one of the archived ones from before 2005 I think.

That's a very interesting timeline, to say the least. Not finished yet, but things will be very different for the USSR postwar.

A few lines underneath that I see the bane of AH: A successful Sealion! What's up with that?

It's actually quite good, but as the POD is in 1937 (Germany actually plans for an invasion) it's not the Sealion we all know and hate.

Well, I might read it then.

It just rubs me wrong is all.

Well, with Ireland an active member of the Allied Powers, it would qualify for Marshal Plan dollars after the war.
Durring the war, it might well help ease the hard feelings between Britian and Ireland--IF Britian handled it right. Sadly, the British and Irish are good at irritating each other.
Still, if the nations worked together as allies, without the British trying to treat the Irish as a minor nation, perhaps the hatchet couild be burried (if not burried very deep, 1916 to 1921 was still fresh in many minds.)

Incidently, this might mobilize the Irish-American population to either pressure Washington to aid Ireland, or to sail over there to join the Irish army.

I'm currently working on a timeline in which DeValera meets an untimely end, and Ireland does join the Allies.

if Ireland gets Marshall aid, then the mass immigration to the UK in the 50's and 60's might not take place and i wouldnt exist:eek:

Didn't some neutral states also receive help by the Marshall plan?

Yes, indeed: Clicky_da_linky! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marshall_plan)

Portugal, Switzerland, Turkey and, gasp!, Ireland all got a bit.
