WI the Dakota remained in one state?

WI the territory of Dakota when it became a state, stay in one piece instead of having a North and South Dakota as we knew in OTL?

There were many reasons why it was divided. The population centers were separated and the Republicans wanted two states in order to increase their power in the Senate. If it remained one state, Republican dominance in Washington in the late 19th century might not have lasted as long as it did.:cool:
