Ok, now what if Germany had INVADED Russia in 1941, not the other way around?

Well, for one there would probably be a hell lot of more Germans than 20 million there is today... Leave it to Stalin to go on an ethnic cleansing rampage... Maybe Soviet Union wouldn't be so messed up as it is right now... Or Russian Federation as the new "correct" term nowadays is...

Judging from the horrific casualties the Soviets suffered in the first year I'd say the Germans might actually do pretty well.

Let's say they manage to catch Stalin almost completely by surprise. Perhaps relations with Japan are tenser leading him to station more troops than OTL over there.

First off the German Luftwaffe which made up for what it lacked in numbers with Technology and training would have caught the majority of the Soviet Airforce on the ground. Air superiority, coupled with the "blitzkrieg" tactics they'd used in France would more than likely send the Soviet Army formations staggering back in dissarray.

Hitler's got to realize that he won't win in a protracted war against Stalin and he'll probably direct the offensive as a single thrust towards Moscow. That'll probably be the key battle of the campaign. There's too many variables to predict who'd win. If the Germans win then Stalin's gonna have a hard time driving them out. Perhaps Beria knocks him off earlier in say '42 instead of '52?
If the Russians win then I'd expect the Germans to conduct a mobile defense and drench the fields of Russia red before being driven to Berlin. Remember that the German generals Manstien and Heinrici were very good at doing this in Poland imagine if they'd had had more room to maneuver!

On another note. I doubt that Italy Romania and the other Balkan countries would have joined the Allies. Greece would probably end up going up against Italy sooner or later. I could definitely see Yugoslavia and Romania joining up WITH the Axis to fight communism. (Maybe not Romania seeing how Hungary gobbled up Transylvania). Anyhow I doubt that the Allies would've had such a strong force in the Balkans.

Perhaps the Germans slow the Soviets down enough for the British to enlist the help of the Americans and take part of Germany? They did pretty well in France IOTL perhaps they'd manage to liberate at least a part of Germany ITTL?
