What would the effects of the Civil War be if the Union Army managed to get a victory at Shiloh. By victory, I don't mean a route or anything. Say the Union kills, wounds, or captures roughly 16,000 Confederates, while Union losses are around 5,300. Assume that the only major figures that die or are in any way injured in TTL are the ones that where killed or injured in OTL. No killing Grant or Sherman.

Shiloh was a defeat for the CSA one might even say a disaster because of the loss of Albert Sidney Johnston who well might have been as effective in the west as Lee was in the east. His loss and the loss of Jackson crippled the Confederate cause thier was only a few other generals on the CSA's side that were as good as them.

True, however, in OTL, the Union did loose several thousand more men that the Confederacy did, and did somewhat poorly at the beginning of the battle. In TTL, the Confederacy has nothing at all to bragg about(No pun intended).

To get this you need for the element of surprise to be lost, other wise you get OTL. On reflection you would nedd the Union forces to be dug in ala Cold Harbor IIRC had casualties similar to what you are looking for,of course its the Union that had 4 to 1 loss ratio in that battle.

Short term: quicker Tullahoma and North Alabama campaigns
Long term: probably not a whole lot; the Union had lots of draftees to draw on...

Actually you could have a Shiloh where the Union is alerted to the approaching CSA army by simply having Sherman believe the reports coming in from his pickets. The first reports were from the 5th Ohio Cav & about an hour or so later the 53rd Ohio Infantry reported Rebs nearby.
Needless to say Sherman ignored these reports & Grants army was almost destroyed. If, however, Sherman maintained some of his paranoia (which saw him sent to the funny farm for a short spell a few months earlier), & immediately acted upon these two reports, then Grant's Union army could have done to the Rebs what they did to the Union at Fredricksburg &/or Cold Harbor.
