What if in the Aftermath of the Israeli War of Indipendence, an Indipendent State in the West Bank and Gaza Strip was founded?

Durring the War, a Palistinian leader comes to prominance, fighting a "Good War" (IE Only engageing the IDF, helping Civilians, its opposed to Israel but is not for Genocide) Afterwords this Theoretical Leader forces the Egyptians and Jordanians to create a Republic in Palistine. With this Nation founded the Arab Leaders lose there main scapegoat for all there problems. A Republic of Palistine can defuse the Arab-Israeli Conflict.

Would Israel and the Arab Kingdoms allow this though?

The problem with this scenario is that ther is no IDF, the Israeli's had the Haganah (pre-IDF) The Irgun and the Stern Gang, and all Jews were expected to take up arms in defence of their settlements so either way slaughter and displacment are going to happen.

And IIRC at this time Palestinian nationalism was non-exsistent and they had the unfortunate position of being the pawns of either the Egyptian, Syrian or Jordanians. Even at the end of the War of Independence Gaza was considered Egyptian and the West Bank was part of Trans-Jordan.

Aside from actually accepting the UN Partition plan pre-war the best hope for a palestinian state is either the West Bank breaking away from Jordan or perhaps the Israelis setting their sinai border from Um Rashrash (Eilat) on the Gulf of Akaba to the line of the Wadi El Arish, This would mean a pocketed Gaza. With Gaza cut off from Egypt maybe then a man could arise who seeing the plight of his people profers the hand of peace and reconciliation with Israel with the aim of reconstruction, trade and prosperity?
