So how do we get to this rather deranged geopolitical solution in the year 2006?

Finland with the OTL arbitrary lines drawn by the USSR for a border? The Falklands having enough people for a Dominion? Costa Rica not secedeing from the UPCA? An oddly shaped Belgium? What an odd map..

Straha
April 8th, 2006, 03:20 AM
1 Same borders as OTL but for a different reason.

2 Costa rica DID secede from the UPCA but rejoined in the early 1850's after the US swallowed up mexico. Costa rica feared it was next.

3 THe british in TTL having a big ego about what few colonies they had call it a dominion.

4 After one of this TTL's many 19th cnetury wars belgium and france's border changed

Siam looks to be a bit larger as well- are they a major power here? (though if they were I'd expect them to have more of Laos and Cambodia)

Straha
April 8th, 2006, 03:25 AM
Siam is stronger but not quite a major power.

What about Moldova? Seems odd that they have the same exact borders as the USSR drew there too- you'd think they'd at least have all of Bessarabia.

Straha
April 8th, 2006, 03:32 AM
Russian Moldovia got independent after the fall fo the czar but the new RSU government reconquered part of it.

What on earth prevented Newfoundland from becoming the 10th Canadian province?

Straha
April 8th, 2006, 03:35 AM
Newfoundland voted to stay british.

And, let me guess, some pseudomystical idiot rules Germany? I mean, cmon, "Germania"...

Straha
April 8th, 2006, 03:45 AM
This is a germany that emerged in the chaos of 1848 so there was no shortage of mystical loons wanting to give it odd names.

i was just wondering, how did we get Mexico into our rule???????

Straha
April 8th, 2006, 04:01 AM
Thanks to the peace negotiations not going well in 1848(Santa Ana is more of a stubborn SOB) and warfare continuing even after the armistice the US forces mexico to accept the harsh treaty of san augustin which made mexico into part of the US.

I think that a POD of 1812 would work, if you're willing to steer left, lean right, hit the gas, and pull the emergency brake all at the same time.

Napoleon wins the napoleonic wars but his empire falls apart in 1848 due to a sucession crisis.

Actually Newfoundland didn't join Canada until 1949 and I believe that the British were more eager than the Newfies!

Straha
April 8th, 2006, 04:29 AM
Due to butterfies newfoundland doesn't become canadian...

Its an interesting map, but considering the early POD, why no Italian Istria, again? With must PODs before the advent of Fascism it should really be expected that Italy should have it.<otherwise someone is going to have to make the effort to take it away from them>

Girondins win the power struggle after Austrian invasion. No Terror. 1st french republic successfull. No Napoleon. Revolution ( without empire ) wars stop around 1800.

Straha

The POD is napoleon winning his wars and dominating europe. But in 1848 all of Npaoleon's dreams come crashing down around him...

Why would the US want Mexico though, and why would Mexico want to be part of the US? There would probably be a long period of guerilla warfare against the Ami occupiers...

Straha

1 Manifest destiny

2 Mexico doesn't have a choice

3 Mexico had alot of internal divisons in this time wehich the US would have exploited to keep the peace

How did Ashante conquer Dagomba? Is Germania mostly Catholic, or Protestant?

Straha
April 9th, 2006, 12:54 AM
1 Ashante is a name revived by the local kleptocrats once they got independence in the 1987-1991 period
2 Dunno. My guess is a protestant plurality.

no Balkin Wars, Ottomans keep Libya, and gain Balkin Posessions, perhaps earlier POD, Italians never take interest in colonizing Africa.

French win in Algerian war in Independence.

Early-to-mid 19th century POD in Europe, with butterflies hitting Mesoamerica hard.

Nice to see the Ottomans doing better though. I do hope they are not a dystopia.

The ottomans are reasonably democratic. The government of them isn't too different from OTL's turkish government only ther culture is the more cosmopolitian ottoman culture and not the artificial turkishness imposed by ataturk.

I have a lot of curiosity about this ideology of synarchism:)

I see there are two great synarchists nations the Pan African Union and Russia.

Do you can explain a little in which is based the synarchism form of government of these two nations and which consists exactly this ideology of synarchism?

Also I understand that Russia synarchism is originated by a revolution (When this happen in the XIX caused by the effects of the fall of Napoleonic System or later?) but in Africa? What causes these Pan African Union? A very succesful guerrilla war and revolutions promoted by Russia?

Straha

I scrapped the synarchist nations. Expect MAJOR revisions to this map...

Straha

As Holstein is not a part of Denmark in any of the pictures, that mean that the German-Danish war happend which means that a peacefull Scandinavian unification could only happend if Sweden intervened, but the Danes gave up Holstein before any real fighting began.

Else Scandinavia on the picture have to be under Swedish rule and probably been created by Sweden joining the Germans in their war against the Danes (And not caring for the popular Scandinavism which existed in the 19th century) and by that annexing Denmark and Germany recieving Holstein?

Straha

1 given that this worlds' 19th century is less peaceful thnas our own that's a posbbility.

2 Napoleon won and reshaped the european borders
