the ASB got bored so they moved the people and things of LotR into Europe. the Shire is now in Wales, Rivendell is now in The Ardennes, the Ents are in the Black Forst, the Dwarves are in the Alps, Mordor is just north of Moscow, Isengard is just south of St. Petersburg, Gondor is in north Poland, Rohan is in Hungary near Romania. all the peoples of Middle Earth are now some where in Europe magic works and so does technology. all the people in Europe that where there before are there now and this is in 2006. discuss.....

Someone's gonna panic and drop a nuke when they see some of their new neighbors...
After that, it's anyone's guess...

Imagine... Radioactive mutant Ents!
Treebeard would probably lead a rebellion against the lumber industry. Well, more of a protest: "You come near me with that axe, I'm-a rip your head off" sort of thing, yeah?

I'm sure that someone will try and nuke Baradur once they understand what they are dealing with.

Eh. It'd depend on whether the Ring could stand nuclear weapons: Judging by a Simpsons/LOTR crossover in front of me, this would be pointless, as only Mount Doom can melt the ring.
Hey, what's so special about Mount Doom, anyway? Why not, I dunno, Mount Vesuvius? That sounds cooler than Mount Doom, really.

the Dwarves are in the Alps To be more consistent with the geography, the Dwarves would have to be in Scandanavia. A few of them would then build boats and emigrate to Scotland.
Eh. It'd depend on whether the Ring could stand nuclear weapons: Judging by a Simpsons/LOTR crossover in front of me, this would be pointless, as only Mount Doom can melt the ring. Gandalf did say it was claimed that dragon-fire could melt the Rings of Power, but no dragon could melt the One, not even Ancalagon the Black. In fact he said that only Cracks of Doom could do the job. However, Gandalf wasn't exactly a trained atomic physicist so he could be wrong about nuclear weapons not being able to do the job.
There is an alternative to Mount Vesuvius and nuclear weapons. Get the Wood Elfs to make a lot of anti-matter with their particle accelerator buried under Mirkwood. Then drop the ring into the magnetic vase holding it and hey presto no Ring. Obviously there is going to be a large burst of energy, but that can be contained if you do it in one of the barrows on the South Downs/Penines

Or, just direct it into an orbiting Mirror, where it can be used to destory Isengard! How about THAT?
