View Full Version : Duplicated Northern Hemisphere

The ASBs replace the Southern Hemisphere with a duplicate Northern Hemisphere so that the equator is now a mirror line.
Two scenarios:
1) This happens tomorrow - everyone in the Southern Hemisphere is gone, everyone and every country in the Northern Hemisphere now has a doppelganger
2) This happens in prehistory - humans spread out to fill this different set of continents, eventually producing a very different set of civilisations to OTL.

I'm going to focus on scenario #2 and assume the climate is kept equivalent to OTL's by ASBs negating any effects caused by the loss of currents and the like.
It would be rather interesting- Eurasia II will have all the potential for developing civilisations that Eurasia I has. Also, you might see an interesting group of civilizations grow up around the (now constricted) Indian Ocean. Sumatra and the Malay Peninsulas are going to be even more important trade outlets than they were in OTL.
Also, in TTL, it's going to be near impossible to circumnavigate Africa since Eurasia II will be in the way. Land routes across the Eurasias will be even more important in TTL.

Indeed, the Indian Ocean has now become almost like an uber-Mediterranean, with the two Sumatra straits being its Gibraltar... and the Atlantic and Pacific are both virtually landlocked, bearing in mind the ice at the Arctic and "Antarctic".

Hmm... you know, the opposite of this would be REALLY slkow in tech development.
Anyways, I think the most interesting thing would be the tech devolopment. With two Eurasias, preferably in contact, it will be booming ahead.

Depends though- land contact is going to be a bit tricky what with the two Saharas. You'll most likely see the greatest amount of seaborne contact between the two hemispheres in the Indian Ocean.

I think that that sea in between the two Africas would help to whittle away much of the Sahara.

I'd like
3) Sometime earlier in history, maybe around 1000 AD or 1400 AD? Could have some interasting results, while we would still get to play around with Familiar cultures…

Kind of irrelevant, but turn your head 90 degrees either way from the vertical, and it looks like those Rorschach blots...

If you want to run with it, go ahead.
Another possibility might be that it happens in say 1400 (beginning of Age of Exploration) BUT the duplicate is empty of people, or contains different civilisations, rather than just duplicating everything in the Northern Hemisphere at that point.
Or...it happens now, but the duplicate is of a Northern Hemisphere from a different timeline, or from the past...
The possibilities are endlesssss....

I will content myself with pointing out that, unless the ASBs fix the currents and tectonic plates, too, the climate will be radically affected in BOTH hemispheres. Among other things, I expect that this planet should be warmer and have higher sea levels, with Antarctica disappearing and being replaced by another ocean.

I would expect the oposite. with the worlds ocean curents severly restricted, and alot of the water in the southern hemisphere isoted away, the ecuator will get hotter and the poles will get colder. So I would expect glaciers to be creeping down Eurasia and America as in the other glacial periods. Except this time there are two of each making the sea levels drop almost twice as far as last time.
