As the medieval nation of Khazaria was staggering towards oblivion, one of its kings raised the call for a crusade -- composed of Jews.
but what if something unlikely had happened?: what if the crusade had failed?
my best guess, if the king fails to even approach Jerusalem, then there won't be crowning himself in the city, won't declare that he is the new Israel....and no nation there means no messianic fervor sweeps Eurasia's Jewry -- and while its good that there won't be an upsurge in pogroms, its sad that the more missionary ("convert 'em all") denomination of Judaism won't arise.
*sigh* can't win 'em all, I suppose.
(yes, this is a double-bind--what-if; did I do well?)
