What would happen if the Free State of Boulder had gone to war with the people on the West coast?

Let's say that there was none of the religious overtone, but the same leaders.

What would the results be?

OK since we're going without the religious overtones I'm assuming that Flagg doesn't have his powers such as the ability to turn up in places he shouldn't be or the ability to possess and control animals. I'm going to go with him being a "cult leader" type of personality- very ruthless, extremely intelligent and charismatic.

The Westerners take it.

If the same people go to the same places, Boulder will still tend to get the idealists, the artists and the dreamers while Vegas tends to get the technically competent and the logical.

Flagg will still have the military resources and the personnel with the know-how to operate them without being hindered by the overriding need to capture Nadine and father a child on her.

Also, the White isn't going to intervene in the way it did by allowing Trashcan Man to bypass the base defences and get the nuke.

It might take a while longer, and without Flagg's ability to control the animals to make sure they don't hinder his men it'll be a bit more inconvenient, but Flagg will sooner or later be able to cross the Rockies and conquer Boulder. He's got the manpower, the resources and the ability to use them.

Eventually the Free State of Boulder will collaspe when the West Coast allies itself with the Republic of the Rockies and Boulder is reannexed.

I think though that by the time Flagg reached Boulder, they would have set up some nasty surprises for him. Eventually they would have lost, but I think without Flagg's powers, the people would have started to turn against him.

I agree- he would have taken Boulder but then without a clear goal I'd think that someone less insane would probably assasinate Flagg.

My reading was that Flagg got the Hedonists.

By the end of year two Flagg's Cult. has lead a force against Boulder and wiped out the Arts and flower Crowd and Mather Mayburry's Cult. But the power and Gas is running out, along with the lootable food supplies, at this point the west coast -pacific Republic made of the logical competent people in the west, get with the gulf coast republic [The ones who realized from the beginnig that the power and Gas were going to go] and wipe his cult out .
