Yes they should they are going to be one of the most importian member over the year . For with out education how are we going to keep are culture alive .

Yes we will slip back a lot with in 10 years but do we want to go back further than the iron age . Which we could if we don't watch out .

No, specific education is covered under the different branches of govement already (called training) as such general education should be under all members of the council, not just one as it is an intrest of all factions of goverment. Convince me otherwise and I will change my vote.

Alternatively we should build a small learning facillity and use it during the days for childern 12 and under, and during the nights for adult classes as soon as we can make gas lamps..

You left out "not right now" on the poll Glen, Which is what I'd vote. Education will need its own post, and it will be a very important one, however right now we need to focus our resources nearly 100% elsewhere

Ayup- not right now. Education is one of the posts that can wait 'til we reach Ianopolis.

I nominate Floc or Leo.

I'm considering the possibility of leaving it up to the parents; if they can teach their children, that's great, and if not, they can pay a teacher.

Actually, I'd argue that Education would be a useful post right now, since the organization of our Education efforts would also in part be the organization of our child care efforts.

We need as many adults out working right now, not homeschooling. We would have had to organize a childcare system irregardless to free up more labor, but this way we can also get basic education going again as well.

See my comments below. Essentially, at this point most of the parents are going to be occupied for most of their waking hours with the work of survival and initial infrastructure. Getting the young'uns to school frees up more people.

Heck, free education was a tradition in pioneer America...not like we're suggesting much different here.

alternatively children as young as 8 can pick up the same trade as thier parents, hell the "beaters" in the great hunt could've been comprised solely of children, same witht he reloaders (with adult supervision) we need more tradesmen then scholars at this point.

I don't think that is a very effective way to educate, and I guarantee you that the professions of this generation and the next are liable to change. And you don't always have the same talents and/or inclinations as your parents.

Some teens, sure. But I wouldn't want to put children in that mix. Too dangerous...

As Glen said young children being the beaters fall under the description of "a very very very bad idea " some of the animals may flee back towards the beaters and young children don't normally have the reflexes to avoid a panic stricking animal.

I nominate Floc...

Thanks but I already have a full time position.

I nominate my NPC wife as a teacher/daycare supervisor. She's a primary school teacher anyway.

And I agree with Glen- free education is a must. No child should be left behind just because their parents can't afford to pay. Education costs should come out of community funds.
