I am going to strongly recommend, at least for the first year, that we function as a direct democracy, with the council being the executive branch running things day to day, while the general meetings of the community serving as the legislative branch.
Why not representative legislature you ask? Several reasons. First, we're small enough to make a direct democracy work. Second, aside from the postings on boards, we don't really know each other, and thus have little to go on with how to choose representatives for a legislature. Three, it would be difficult logistically to arrange for an election for those posts (how many representatives, who represents whom, how do we even conduct the election, how long for campaigning, etc.).
Basically, we have neither the need for representatives yet, nor the time or resources to commit to establishing one.
OOC: Also, having a direct democracy allows all the PCs to participate in the government, and as they choose to without an advanced commitment.
That is why I am asking for an assent vote for us to function as a direct democracy for the first year, with monthly meetings (and special ones if necessary).
