One possibility how day 4 might come about with slightly more developed Amerindians when we expect - just as an alternative to the "real" day 4. Enjoy... :D

On the day of the arrival of our group, we were already watched by an Amerindian hunter from a surrounding tribe. The news spread quickly throughout the whole bay area.

The leader of a powerful town of maybe 3000 fishermen and -women heard of the large group of newcomers, which were quickly complemented by tales of loud bows with invisible arrows, weapons of a shiny stone that doesn't brake, and other miracles. He lead a lot of battles against the surrounding hill tribes and he decided to gather a force to get hold of those weapons on the second day, sending out messengers to get more warriors from surrounding friendly tribes.

On day 3, 5000 people were assembled, among them about 4000 people useful for battle. A forced march towards the newcomers was started. On the way, more people joined - even some from the hill tribes, who wanted a share of the loot and who were angry at some of the newcomers who had shot their way through their territories. They were able to bring down one lonely newcomer and loot his equipment, consisting of a few guns and quite some ammunition. The leader got one of those guns in exchange for one of his daughters. 5000 more or less able warriors were assembled, with lots of spears and bows, and even a few guns. In the night, they saw a small group of the newcomers carrying an injured person. They followed in a safe distance and dispersed in the surrounding area. Some outposts were found and their occupants eliminated. The number of guns increased to about 20.

In the early morning of the 4th day, the warriors attacked our camp - Most people were asleep, some of the guards were easy targets because they had some kind of fire on their mouths, others were too surprised to shoot back before they were killed.

All men were killed within 20 minutes. So were all elderly women, most of the other women and the boys and even some girls. The few survivors were taken as slaves. The camp was looted. What the Amerindians couldn't use, was left at the spot. A few Amerindians stayed at the camp, trying to make use of the strange building with holes in the walls filled with sheets of warm ice.

The corpses of the dead were left to the dogs. The warriors quickly found out how to ride a horse.

Later in the day, a few newcomers who were out hunting or gathering came back. They shot the Amerindians still at the place and vowed to take revenge...

I personally don't see the chinook (miwok?) ever turning into the comanche without someone going out of their way to make them such. The pacific northwestern lifestyle is to ideallyc(sp). Regardkess if what I told shadestorm. as cool as a barbarian horde may be, the fact is that we could live smackdab in the middle of a slough of tribes and never need to infringe upon each others terratory.
