The Board vs Romulus Augustus

The charges AFAIK are as follows

1 count of attempted rape

4 (?) counts of murder

1 count of disturbing the peace

1 count of reckless endangerment

Any discussion on and nominations for positions for Judge, Jury and Counsel for Prosecution should be handled on the "What to do about the shooting" (http://www.alternatehistory.net/discussion/showthread.php?t=24733) thread.

I will set up a seperate poll for votes on the verdict after the defence and prosecution have made their cases, witnesses have been called and the Judge has conducted his summing up.

Judge: Weapon M <?>

Jury: <Nominations needed>

Counsel for the Prosecution: <Nomination needed>

Counsel for the Defence: Flocculencio <if there are any other nominations for this please feel free>

Any actual witnesses to the incident will be ineligible for any of the above positions.

Glen Finney will be ineligible for any of the above positions as we'll need him to provide medical testimony.

Bailiff: Othniel

Marshals: (MBarry, SionEwig) <?>, Grimm Reaper

OOC: I figure I can start my opening remarks regarding pleas to each charge and so on. When a prosecutor has been appointed he may rebut. Edit: I deleted the earlier post so that Othniels post would be in it's proper chronological setting. I apologise for my breach of court etiquette :)

My Lord, learned friend and ladies and gentlemen of the jury

My client has agreed to plead guilty on the charges of disturbing the peace and reckless endangerment.

However, we plead innocent on the charge of attempted rape.

I would also like to prove that the charges of attempted murder are invalid and my case will attempt to prove that my client is instead guilty of manslaughter on the basis of diminished responsibility due to his mental situation before and at the time of the alleged incidents.

STOP!!!
Do not start posting the trial until tomorrow, at least!!! You are taking things out of the hands from other time-zones!!! Give people a chance to respond before starting!!!

Don't worry- I wasn't going to post more than my opening remarks. I will wait until there is a prosecutor who can post his own opening before I post any more.

If I do end up as judge, I will not vote, whatever I feel deep down inside me. I do not think it would be proper. Once the poll is done, we can figure that it will reflect how the jury feels. If it is a 'hung' jury, then the judge should vote and make a decision.

I suppose I could use one of my hammers and an axe for a gavel...:p

Fair enough. As counsel for the defence I will not vote either and I guess that the counsel for the prosecution should do the same.

Hey guys, there is such a thing as being 'too' real.

This is a game, after all. You can vote in the poll.

Gah :) Fair enough I guess :p But if people are going to be calling for torture and mutilation I figured that it would be best to provide the chance to nip such statements in the bud.

I did. It was requested, and it seemed like a reasonable request. This is going to be a lengthier topic probably, out of continuity to a degree with the rest of the thread. We haven't stickied much at present, so I thought we could leave it here for a while until we had other things we wanted more. If you feel strongly about it not being stickied at this time, feel free to take it down.

BTW I PMed Highlander to let him know I would be happy to provide any mod services he needs. It's not meant to be preferential to just one game.

I was under the assuption of the trail to be a poll, furthermore I hate to see "lesser" charges. The deaths are enough to persecute over.

Isn't that part of the whole reason you want a trial though? Until we know the whole circumstances we don't know what happened. ie was it murder, self-defense, maybe even done by the ASB's, we don't know.
