Well some of you want to start the game so go ahead and post, what is happaning the first day with your Family .
Well it was a cool early morning , the Sun was just peaking over the eastern Skyline . When with a poping noise an Apartment building Appeared, in the lightly forested area of what will later known as San Fan in just under 5,000 years . Then a louder pop rang though the area and 1000's of skid's apeared around the building. Then the noise grew in volume as over a 1,000 people arrived in the early sunshine .

Flocc and Floccette sat atop their wagon. Having little experience of rural life, they had decided to simply follow instructions and had loaded their wagon mainly with all the items that they had been told to bring. Prudently, knowing the seperatist tendencies of some of the indidivuals coming along, Flocc had loaded his rifle and was keeping it close to hand. So far, though, there didn't seem to be any trouble. They waited for someone to take charge...

DAY 1
Sweat already began to spring to Psychomeltdown's forehead as he took the first steps. The pack on his back was overloaded and it felt like the hundred plus pounds was ready to push him into the hard concert he stood upon. In one hand he held the lead line to the quarter-horse, Rose, and the other he held the hand of his spouse, Nizhoni, who also held a lead line to the docile ewe that baaed as it followed. Rose nickered, seemingly upset at all the weight she carried, but she too followed as the lead line was pulled.
Suddenly everything seemed to change, the concert he had been standing upon vanished, nearly causing him to trip and fall. The ground became soft and yielding, the air became a bit cooler and smelled differently. though there began a loud noise of calling animals, human noises, and some weeping from others.
Psychomeltdown looked around, at the new world. He pulled out his 30-06 hunting rifle and chambered a round, making sure the safety was on. People were milling about, a lot just staring around blankly, others trying to steady animals that were getting restless and weren't all to thrilled about being heavily loaded. Already he could hear dogs barking, other horses neighing, sheep bleating, and chickens squawking.
He turned to Nizhoni and smiled grimly. "Here we go."
*What date are we starting at, Jan 1, 3000 BC?

Luakel looked around at the strange new world. His parents had freaked, but eventually accepted that they were going way, way back. He had them, his brother, a computer, a regular rifle (I'm far too liberal to bring an Uzi or AK-47), a backpack full of books and snack food (the other three had backpacks full of whatever they wanted), a male dog, and a female chicken, all aboard the wagon that his family had purchased, which contained provisions. Luakel looked around, and realized that two grizzled looking old men carrying lots of guns, and a Hispanic with a big doobie in his mouth were looking in his direction, grinning evilly...
"Err...... Wot's up, guv?"

As Grimm continued his eloquent case for the need to appease the gods and ASBs with a human sacrifice of suitable nature, he noticed a kid with a wuss rifle appearing with parents and a kid brother.
...oops, never mind, we'll discuss this later...
Grimm appeared with his sister who was visiting(and I can't give up teasing her after 30 years) and a celebrity clone. He immediately sought out Ward and MBarry to suggest that a temporary camp be set up on Roman lines in terms of hygiene and common facilities(such as a kitchen).

After meeting Ward and his Clan, Psychomeltdown had decided to keep his equipment with Ward's Clan as he and his new wife went out with their horse and tried to gather up the animals and make contact with everyone.
It had been to say the least, a difficult job. Many had never handled an animal, much less a scared and frightened animal. A rack of chickens had toppled over and they were being chased, dogs were barking furiously at cats and other animals, a pair of stallions had begun trying to fight one another, with 1200 lbs on their back.
It was a busy morning, but Psychomeltdown still noticed the people gathering to the south and had heard of an small group running northward as soon as they could.
That bothered Psychomeltdown, he was damned it anyone would be building empties on the backs of any people here.

It had been a long while since he had ridden a horse and Psycho was feeling tired and a bit saddle sore. The day had been long and very eventful. He and several others had managed to herd together the sheep and the cattle and lead them to water and find some grazing. Though on several occasions there had been fierce arguments over the taking of the animals, there were still some hold outs, people who were clinging to their animals and making vague statements of letting the market sort things out and one that was beginning to bother Psycho, heading out on their own.
He got back to the herd camp as the sun was beginning to set, a whole day had passed and nothing much had occurred. People were still milling about, talking, weeping, and planning. He had taken control of the herding, but he didn't know if it was the right thing to do. He hadn't been able to speak with any of the others, due to the fact that he had been mostly on the fringes, capturing animals and herding them.
The rich smell of frying food wafting to him as he finished brushing down Rose. He fed her a bit of oats and sighed. They'd be running out of that soon. The other horses neighed in the picket line, there were 13 horse all told in their group, which was a good start.
The herd camp was a small outlying camp, near the small stream and away from the bustling center of the camp that was still being laid out. He and thirty others had taken charge of the three hundred plus sheep and cattle that had been brought, all had horses and all were pretty much knowledgeable in riding, roping, and herding. which was a great relief to Psychomeltdown.
In the center of the herd camp, Nizhoni and others were making tortillas, cooking what they called their Last Big Meal, a rabbit that had been shot by a herder and some meat brought over. Two large kettles of tea and coffee were sitting on the ashes and about 24 people were gathered. He had left six on first watch, looking out for the herds. He'd take middle watch and others would be doing last watch.
"A runner was sent over, saying that Flocc and his patrol would be coming by, sometime tonight. They're doing a circuit around the Camp Perimeter." Nizhoni said as he poured himself a cup of tea. "They say they spotted a bear not too long ago."
"Well at least we'll only be here for a short while." Psycho said, looking out toward the bustling center of the main camp. "Hopefully."

Flocc trudged into Psycho's encampment with his patrolmen, rifles slung over their shoulders.
It would be nice if we could do this on horseback he mused, ressurecting the infantryman's timless bellyaching about having to move on his own two feet. It had been decided that decisions like that could be sorted out at a later date once things were more settled and so tonight, the perimeter guards were making their rounds on foot.
"We brought down that bear," he called to the waiting herdsmen, "Luakel's waiting with it. We need to carry on along the perimeter so if you guys could bring out a horse to drag it back, it would be appreciated. Might not taste great if it's been eating more meat than fruit but it'll add to the stockpile nicely."
"Any sign from the breakaways?" asked Psycho.
"Not yet," replied Flocc, "but I'm worried about them. If they're going to try to get away quick they might try something tonight...and they might try to get some extra animals so be on your guard. We'll respond to any gunshots as fast as we can but it's a pretty big camp so I don't know how quickly we'll be able to get to the scene."
He tipped his hat and set off again along the perimeter.

"Shouldn't we be going towards the large group of people Jennifer asked as they trekked northward. "We're staying within the designated area, and I want to get between these two rivers and on high ground" Pisces replied. "Theres safety in numbers." Jen retorted. "Yes, but theres food in those tidepools. We need to look to ourselves first, and then make good with the community." the dogs trekked along struggling with their makeshift sleds, unsure of what exactly was going on, but following obediently all the same. After approximately 3 hours of looking for the "Perfect spot" Pisces settled on the center of three sandy hills to pitch tent. it was far from perfect, but high enough to not worry about flooding. and with all the crap they've drug (which they were all happy to stop dragging) they settled down for a night of tea, hardtack, and some beef jerky. "Anything to report?" he asked Flocc.
"Nothing yet. The potential runaways still seem to be clustering their tents together and we've got a few people who've set up theirs apart from the main group but no one seems to have made a break for it as far as I can tell. Everyone seems to be within the designated area."

"Gentlemen, surely we have ONE team out scouting the area so as to find the best possible Base One site? At minimum we need adequate water, an area relatively clear of trees and other obstructions, and access to running water and/or natural foodstuffs would be desirable.
Then we move to that spot and establish a base.
I do not anticipate this being ideal, but it should be a spot we find viable for a few weeks at minimum.
Perhaps we can select a squad to climb the highest local elevation to get started?"

Dave and Michelle looked around in astonishment at the open land around them... clear blue skies, thousands upon thousands of birds in the sky, and knee high grass as far as the eye could see, trees scattered thickly amongst it. Seeing no immediate threat, Dave safed his Sharps and slung it over his shoulder. Looking around, he groaned audibly. "Damn... look at all the trees.. a lot more than I thought there'd be. Lots of lumber, but cutting them all down and getting the stumps out is gonna be a bitch." Dave looked around at the confusion of people around him, and then at the hundreds of skids and wagons piled high with gear. "Come on, let's find our stuff. I wonder where we'll all be camping tonight...."

Dave and Michelle managed to find their gear pretty easily, as it was piled high on one of the few wagons that had been brought along. Already, the ISOT area was a confusion of gear being unpacked and sorted. Dave looked around at the mess. "Christ, we need to get this FUBAR straightened out. I wonder if we can get some of the horses hitched up to these wagons and pull them out of the mess. We need to clear some of them anyway and load up some firewood right away. I'd like to get our gear unloaded someplace anyway, and find a place to pitch our tent." Dave looked at Andrea, the big Holstein cow he had taken along, named after a woman employee at his place of business that he really didn't like; luckily, both cow and pig made the trip without getting hurt or panicked. Dave looked at Michelle and started to say something, but looked around when he heard someone calling his name...
at this point Dave realized that he knew very few of the group by sight, and only Kilngirl personally...

The First Day is the most crucial, and we haven't made any rules of HOW THE GAME WORKS.
What are the chances that we'll meet Indians? What if we run into a raiding party? Right now we have no way to determine that. We should make rules to create random events such as these.
Also, NO ONE WAS GIVEN WARNING. You need to say: We will start in 24 hours, so people will know to be there. For example, what if game time speeds up during the thread, and the people who would have made a major impact in the first few hours, didn't get there chance.
I haven't read the thread yet, but I will tell you EXACTLY what must happen.
Either A) Use this as a test for the first day, later delete the thread.
B) Delete it right now.
C) Keep this ONLY to talking about what we are doing (IN-GAME). If anyone says, "Okay, let's move out." Then you may have left behind someone that would have made a huge impact in this discussion. No time will pass at all. Until we have THE FACTS and the RULES nailed to the wall, all roleplaying in this thread will not account for the passage of time. Then, we can allow everyone the chance to take part in THE FIRST DISCUSSION.
Note: Dave Howery SHOULD start the roleplaying thread, it is his game idea, he knows how it will begin. And, we have to make the thread look very neat and cleaned up, with information how to play, so that it can attract more people later. "Just starting." Is not an effective method.

No really, I don't want to be mean about it, I just really want to see this do well, and not collapse like so many other games. Plus, if there are a lot of people that disagree with me, I can always delete all of my posts so you guys can get back to roleplaying.
Sorry about using my assertive personality. I'm thinking about you guys though.
However, I also like style. The start of the game should have a really cool big title, maybe a quote, and a paragraph or two to prologue the start of the game. Something ominous and cool, like out of the Lord of the Rings movie.
Don't want to chat on this post though, so I will delete this in ten minutes.

Warren Bradford's mind skipped a beat.
Yes. I am on a buffalo.
His mind reeled as he impulsively combed his hand through the thick wool-like fur of the massive beast. He noticed his surroundings being in a decidious area, and then focused in on the mass of people and supplies. His mind reeled. He closed his eyes to focus.
Alright. Take it in. You were going to do something here. What was it? Oh yeah it- A woman's scream fluttered behind him and he was startled to find a terrified, albeit attractive woman sitting behind him. On a buffalo.
"What-? Where-?" She noticed what she was sitting on.
Warren grimaced concerningly, "Yeah." His eyes were apologetic. "It's a buffalo."
The woman promptly fainted at these words. Now that is a clone.
Warren shook his head and realized what was happening around him. He realized the familiar rifle in his hand. He realized the nervous looks the excited people around him were giving him: a buffalo in the middle of horses and cows. He realized he needed to get the hell out of there.
Warren leaned down toward the head of the mammothian beast he was sitting on, where he supposed the ears should be. They really were bigger in real life.
He paused, thinking. Then, "Tatanka, hup hup!"
An eccentric smile crossed his visage as they took off into the brush.

The first thought that swept through my mind on arrival was, "What a clusterf@#$..."
I asked my wife to take the kids firmly by the hand, while I mounted. I needed height to see through this crowd of over 3000 people. There, not too far away, were the strange blue hat/yellow sweater clan of Ward. I dismounted immediately, not wanting to try and ride through this mass of nervous people and animals. We pushed through the group, and found ourselves shortly in the area of the Ward crew, and several other AHer's who I would now be meeting face to face the first time.
"When I get my hands on the ASBs that thought this one up, I'm going to kill 'em!"
"Hey Ward! Doc Finney and family have arrived. Lets get the intros out and I'll have them stay with y'all. We're going to need some relatively high ground to get the lay of the area and set up some aide stations.
Luckily, I am very good at projecting my voice, because this crowd was making a godawful racket...

Hearing the cries from a nearby man on a horse calling for medical personel, to rally around him, it was not difficult for me to put two and two together.

With that, I took my bullhorn, clicked the on button, covered my ears, and hit the air horn.
The resulting silence was just what I had wanted, and this time I spoke into the bullhorn.
"Excuse me ladies and gentlemen. Will anybody with medical expertise please find your way over to that gentleman standing atop the horse. Thank you. That is all."

"You go; someone needs to watch the wagon. Besides, I don't know him, and you apparently do."
A thin, bearded man in a blue raincoat approaches Glen. "Dr. Finney? I'm, well, you know me as Forum Lurker; real name's [kept off the Internet, and for good reason]. I realize you're probably looking mostly for paramedics, in the short term, but I thought I should introduce myself right quick if I wanted to get on the shortlist for apprenticeships. My, well, fiance now, and I are both trained in biology and anatomy, and we'd be glad to learn anything you can teach us."
"Welcome aboard, FL (will use in lieu of real name, assume it is being used in game). Okay, identify your stuff to the grizzled fellow in the yellow sweater and blue hat, as well as the fellow with the bull horn. Tell them I said to have it watched as I need you to work with me for now."
"Since you're the first to respond, I need you to wade through this mass of humanity and find us a spot by some flowing water if possible, where we can set up some tents for an aid center. The weather is cool enough, so we probably won't be having any heat exhaustion cases right off the bat, but we're probably going to be seeing several people who are going to get stepped on by the livestock. Damned ASB bastids! You two go together, then send one back here when you've found a location. You both armed, I assume? We're likely a pretty peaceful crowd overall, but better prepared."

Talking to Ward, MBarry, Weapon M, and Bulg...
"There's too many of us, many older and younger, for us to move anywhere today...not to mention I wouldn't trust too far those uptime maps of ours.
I see y'all have gotten some tents going. I'm having FL find a spot near some running water to set up our aide station. Once we have it, we're going to want some tents, or at least overhead tarps. We'll also be needing some strong hands to unload the first aid supplies and set up cots and what-not.
I presume our military/camping types have already set people to digging latrines? If not, we need to get on that pronto. Make certain they are far from our potential potable water, and just plain washing water, for that matter.
I like the idea of doing like the Romans for tonight's camp. We need to start laying out some travel-ways so we can get around here without weaving through everyone. We also need to get the livestock separated out from the people...that's a health hazard waiting to happen.
I'm certain I'll think of plenty more..."

Dave and Michelle walk over to the nice doctor and look around. Ward is soon identified as the grizzled old man with the huge family around him. "Hi, Ward, I'm Dave Howery. Hey, we need to get the horses organized ASAP. We need to get those wagons hitched up, pulled away from the skids, and unloaded. It'd be nice to get some firewood gathered before too long. Any thoughts yet as to where we're going to camp tonite? Oh, and some doofus on a buffalo just rode off at high speed. I don't think he's coming back. Let's divvy up his stuff out among the rest of us when we find it."

A strange looking man and a very pretty but wistfully sad looking woman appear next to the skid full of guns, ammo, lab eq, a small wagon (http://www.pineridgeonline.com/wagons/index.shtml) and an ultralite airplane. Saying nothing to anyone the two grab weapons from the skid and the woman stands guard while the man begins to load the wagon.
Some few approach but the sight of a woman with an AK puts them off. Most seem far too busy with the business of arrival to pay any real attention to anything they are not part of. All but one, a young man who walks rather fearlessly up to the pretty woman and engages her in conversation. Soon, they are conversing pleasantly and the girl smiles and giggles at something the young man says.
Within a half hour of feverish activity by the stranger the wagon is loaded and the pair hitches up their horse and disappears, both walking behind the loaded vehicle. As they go a shout comes after them "Oi, do ya 'ave ta go erf halready?.." but there is no answer.
As they come to the ridge beyond which they will be unable to be seen by the camp the woman stops. "Who was that?.." she asks the strange man.
"The little guy with the fake cockney accent? That was Luakel, " he answers.
"Too bad we can't stay, I'd have liked to know him better.." She looks at the man she is with and sighs deeply, seeming to weigh the weapon she is carrying as his back proceeds on away from her. She looks once more very wistfully back at the camp and the pair disappears into the night.

Psycho made a few runs around the perimeter, mainly to make sure that the animals that had came with them weren't running off and were actually being looked after.
Then he noticed a group moving out, riding horses and pulling a small wagon, topped with supplies. He felt the immediate urge to pull out his hunting rifle and fire a few rounds after them, but decided against it.
"Why didn't you?" Nizhoni asked when he came back.
"They're not technically apart of the group." He said. "They're free to do whatever they want."
"But they're going to enslave, kill, and destroy the tribes around here." Nizhoni said angrily.
"I know, but for now we need to focus on what's important Our survival."

"Damned, I hear that a few folks have already been spotted heading out. I hope they all remember to keep their distance from the locals for a few weeks at least to make certain they don't have any colds or flus. Even the would-be conquerors should be careful, if they want to have anyone to lord over."
I scowled at the thought. I had hoped something could be done about this, but conditions were just too chaotic, even with the heroic efforts of several of the board members to begin organization. There were just too many people who were thrown together by the transport haphazardly to throw up a cordon. Not to mention that most folks just wanted to let be.
They'd have to get a watch started by nightfall. I'm certain Matt and gang are on it, but it wouldn't hurt to send a runner to remind them. No guarantee that some of those people who left by daylight with their stuff might not come back by night for others'.

The med tent appears to also be becoming one of the centers of the growing camp. As one of the first places announced to everyone, it seems most people looking for news are gravitating here.
After conferring with a few of my shared worlds colleagues, I suggest that we send some folks out to find a spot that will make a good meeting area for the group. Maybe somewhere like a natural ampitheatre...
Already, we've got a few 'patients', mostly cuts and abrasions and stomped on feet (a few broken toes here and there). A handful of crying kids who it looks like are just scared.
Then someone comes in with a broken leg from a kick, and we get to work trying to splint the damned thing. Hard work, setting bones....

As Glen gets back to the Ward compound that night his kids have been Feed and are sitting down listening to Mrs. Ward tell them a story . The kids have a glass of milk and his tent is set up and his wife is sitting back looking tired but happy when she sees them . There is a group of 6 tents set up all faceing in towards Were the Women and children are sitting .
There is a small tent that has Head on it . off about 40 feet from the mane camp . And there is a jug of water and a basion over by that tent ,with a bar of soap.

Chris looked around. Sure enough, he was in the middle of the wilderness, with his clone woman (identity to be decided soon enough) by his side, and surrounded by a bunch of his fellow history geeks.
He quickly slipped the halter onto Morsel, and patted animal. The pig was a bit harder to handle, but he eventually got a rope around its neck. He tied the boar to the stack of hog panels. "A few hundred pounds of metal ought to keep him from going anywhere."
He then hopped on his trusty old horse (or a loose approximation of his childhood animal), and rode off, unsteadily, towards where most of the people were congregating. He quickly spotted the man he knew as Ward and tried his best to get to him. It took Chris awhile, but he finally got through the crowd.
"Hi Ward, I'm DominusNovus. Just call me Chris. Listen, I've got a bunch of panelling back at my skid. We should probably start corraling the animals up with it."

Taking it from Glen, I depress the trigger and speak.
"Okay, people, we need to try and divide our selves up or at least get into some kind of easily manageable groups. First thing we have to do is find a suitable campsite or set of campsites within the immediate area. So, if we could get a few volunteers to search the surrounding area, that would be excellent. If I'm not mistaken, we do have some veterans here, so they should be the ones to do so."

People are busy, signing up is slow. My wife volunteered to keep an eye on our supplies and the goat, while I take the horse and ride around. As it's the first time I'm riding in a lot of years, I won't impress too many of the celebrity wifes here, but I'll get along. I suppose, I'm quickly going to find the nearest larger creek or smaller river, where I'll look out for a good place to build a small damm. I'll also look for some food and other useful things on the way. I come back after a few hours with some wood I found on the ground, for a fire. I also update the map of the area I took with me according to my finds. When I return, my wife looks for some food in the surrounding landscape, while I prepare what will be needed for the night - unpacking the tent and other needed things. When she's back, I'll put up the tent on the roof of Ians home, while I'll store some of my more valuable goods in a lockable room somewhere in the building.
The equipment I brought along for community purposes I let Ward decide who to give - that's mainly a part of a vehicle.

Hendryk
December 5th, 2005, 03:51 PM
Hendryk wasn't sure what amazed him most, being sent back in time by powerful alien entities or seeing, gathered together in a single spot, all the AH.comers in the flesh. Further enhancing the feeling of awe was the primal beauty of the place. He dimly remembered the San Francisco area from a trip to California as a fresh-faced 18-year-old, but here, at this time in prehistory, the landscape was as yet unaltered; gazing upon the turquoise bay, he had what he would later refer to as his Cortez moment, from Keats's poem "On first looking into Chapman's Homer".
A voice next to him brought him back to reality. "You realize, don't you, that what you've put me into is just like what my parents had to endure during the Cultural Revolution?" This wasn't really a question. It was Wendy's way of reminding him that, because of him, she had just given up on a promising career as a financial journalist in Shanghai, the soon-to-be global city, for the uncertain life of a settler. And she had a point too; her parents had had to spend what would otherwise have been the best years of their lives toiling away in a remote rural province for the purpose of "reeducation". Now it was her turn to experience the brutal shift from "Sex and the City" to "Deadwood", and she wasn't nearly as good as Mr. Wu with feeding troublemakers to pigs. Or so Hendryk hoped anyway.
"We'll join that guy over there. I think I recognize him," he said, pointing to a dark-skinned man.
"He looks Indian," Wendy commented matter-of-factly. Hendryk knew that, run through the Chinese Indirectness Translator, that simple sentence sounded less than promising.
"He's from Singapore, actually," he corrected. The mention of the city-state did make her cast a much friendlier look at Flocculencio.

"I'd better find WeaponM," said Flocc after they had been assigned a camping place.
Noticing a French Mao-lookalike and a Chinese woman approaching, he waved.
"Ni Hao, Hendryk?" he called cheerfully, as he walked off.
"Mind if we join you guys?" asked the Frenchman.
"Go for it," replied Flocc, "I don't know what's supposed to be going on right now but we'd better get guards out along the perimeter before it gets dark."
Leaving one of the carbines with Floccette and slinging the other one over his shoulder, he gave her a kiss, adjusted the belt which held his two revolvers, tipped his fedora to a jaunty angle and wandered off to inquire about the roster for guard duty.

General_Paul sat quietly near the apartment building. The trip was...disorienting in the least. He knew it'd be a difficult transition, this landscape, at least some faces he knew would be a start. He looked down at the bay, crystal blue, forests all around. He heard MBarry's initial call for order, and for scouting out of the area. "I'll go MBarry. I've got some weapons, and I've got outdoor skills." He walked up to the horse he had brought with him. "With Trigger here, I can help with the scouting, if that's allowed?"
Matt
December 5th, 2005, 04:55 PM
Matt spent most of the morning organizing his communial property and pooling it with all the others. It was hard work; requiring several hundred pounds of supplies to be moved by back. It wasn't anything he hadn't done before though.
The Camp reminded him of the early days at Camp Viper, when the war was young. Unconsciously he found himself organizing the settlers and the warehouse. Most of the people were confused and seemed willing to listen to anyone who seemed to take the initiative.
By early afternoon, he settled into a supervisory role. Sitting on his over sized pack he dug out an MRE. Beef stew. "Good," he thought "The effing ASB's at least know what MREs I like."
He began to eat, and looked around for his sister. He decided against taking a wife with him, but choose his sister and her fiance after frantic negotiation with the ASBs. He could find a mate within the natives later he figured, and he trusted his sister. Roxie, his dog, had settled next to him while he ate. She had been frantic this morning, chasing all varieties of live stock.
As he dug deeper in the MRE pouch someone began shouting through a bullhorn. Bulg was calling for him. He detached his patrol pack from the main pack, picked up his Lee-Enfield rifle and walked over, with Roxie faithfully following behind him. He could finish his MRE later.

"Bulgaroktanos I presume," Matt said as he extended out his hand.
"MBarry then eh?" he replied. "Well the board is gone, so I guess simple old Ed well do. Quite a change from the wastelands of New Jersey, eh?"
"Matt well do. Nah, New Jersey 3000 miles and 3000 years away now. So what's the situation we're looking at?"
"Well it's Febuary, so it well be getting dark soon. We have group gathering firewood right now, but we need to make sure the area is secured for night. Can we put you in charge of that?"
"Sure can. I just need 20 men or so, and I need the settlers to bring the camp in as tight as possible. A smaller perimeter is easier to protect."

"Those should be good."
"So we've got you, Flocc, Weapon, and perhaps Norbert, if we can find him. So another 15 or so. I'll hop on getting that word out, and see if we can get these people in tighter."
I switched the bullhorn back on.
"Cover your ears guys," I turned to MBarry and the newly arrived Flocculencio. They quickly did so.
Blasting the airhorn, I filled the resulting silence with another announcment.

Flocc smiled back and said "Yarrrrr. Matt works for me."
Suddenly remembering where he was Matt continued, "Well we need the lay of the land. We need a camp guard, as it were. Guys that are decent shots, and know they need to stay awake tonight. Even so we can establish shifts."
"Sounds like a plan... What do you need from me?"
"Well we have no idea whats out there. No clue in the world. After we get the guard in place, we need 4 others. We're going on a patrol."

Chris found the guy with the bullhorn. "Hey, Bulg! I'm DominusNovus, call me Chris. Mind if I borrow the bullhorn for a second?" Bulgaroktonos handed him the device.
Speaking in to the device, Chris announced "Alright, I need a few dozen people to help me put up some hog panels so we can keep all our animals corraled. That is, unless any of you want to sleep with your new pet pigs." A chuckle arose from some of the people in the group.
...
Chris looked over the impromtu corral. It wasn't much, but it worked. Using the trees as fence posts here and there was a good idea, though most of the panels stood up on their own just fine. All of the pigs, sheep, goats, and other small animals were in the corral, as well as the cattle. The horses not being ridden at the moment were tied up to wherever was convenient. Some of the members were out rounding up a few strays. All in all, the animal situaion looked secure for the moment.
"How the hell are we going to feed all these things?" he wondered aloud.

schrammy takes a moment to look at his suroundings and get his barrings, than gathers his things his pamela clone and the animal's and starts moveing towards the larger concentration of people, with a mixed feeling somewhere between joy, happines and a little fear of the unknown.
when he gets to the larger concentration of people he starts greeting them and introducing him self, after the first introductions are over he either goes and finds our leader(s) or contineuse to lissen to them/him if already present to find out in what derection to go and what the general plan is.
after he has learned enough/recieved his orders, he will head back to his wife and things with his fear of the unknow some what reliefed.
he starts to talk to his new wife to learn more about her until the majority of the people get moveing towards our new home.

He had stopped by Floccette on the way back to make sure that she was settling in fine. She was busy helping Hendryk and Wendy set up their campsite so with a wave he carried on about his business.
MBarry was still waiting- to Flocc it looked like people were still busy sorting themselves out.

"Okay, we've got things moving," I thought to myself. "We've got MBarry on scouting, Glen moving to organize something along the lines of medical assistence, Dominus working on our animals, and Norbert working on lumber."
But I was nonetheless disturbed by the disorganization gripping most of the camp. They couldn't just set up camp anywhere, as many already were. While that might be fine for now, serious unpacking was going to be detrimental to the planning that needed to be done.
Switching on my faithful bullhorn, and ritually sounding the airhorn, I spoke again.
"Excuse me for one moment ladies and gentlemen. Or at least those of you outside the deafening zone of the airhorn, and can actually hear me. I've noticed a lot of you are unpacking and setting up tents. While that is fine for now, I encourage you to not unpack most of your heavier equipment. We may well be having to move, and we will certainly need to be planning our campsites. For the sake of those cutting our firewood, if you could try and keep your tents in clusters of say 3 or four tents to a fire, that would be excellent. Once we get more organized, and find suitable housing, we may be moving, so again, I urge you to leave some of your heavier equipment on its sled or other transport."
OOC: Not only does it help our organizational needs but allows people to get to know one another and help each other with setting up tents, etc. Community building.

The General knew that it'd be time to leave soon. With no dependents, and little way of supporting himself, he knew that he would follow the band to the ends of the earth, but that he would also have to find a place for himself sooner or later. "Maybe a little log cabin by the water. Build myself a small schooner. Steal some of Dave's pot seeds, grow a field or two, and use it to make cloth for the schooner's sail. Yeah, that's the life right there. Open the local school. To hell with it, I'll open the school!" With that idea, the general settled in for the night.

About 10 miles south of the camp there was a ravine. At the bottom of the ravine was a wagon, or rather the twisted remnants of same, accompanied by several boxes strewn about. Some feet from the wagon the mouth of a largish cave opened up. In the cave a strange looking man reclined and faced a pretty girl across a small fire
"Well, that should keep you for a while. I've splinted your leg and shot you full of all the antibiotics I could recover." She handed him a small bottle of pills, "...take ALL of these," she said emphatically, "...we don't want us altering the microbes back here, that might easily butterfly us out of existence." She stood up and walked over to the horse that stood next to a small pile of goods.
"When....are you coming back?" the strange man asked weakly.
"I'm not," said the girl. "..You have enough MREs' for about a week over in the corner, then you're on your own.... though I doubt you'll get around to even them. You seem shocky and there's nothing antibiotics can do about that."
"You can't do that," the strange man croaked through obvious pain, "..the ASB's said you were devoted."
"Yeah, well they really didn't understand the concept, it seems, up until last night I got cramps if I went 8 hours without sex with you and felt all your pain as my own. But when you drove the wagon into that ravine and nearly killed our horse and yourself for some reason I didn't feel a thing. Then just this morning I felt the cramps coming on but then concluded that I'd rather die than have sex with you again and they went away." She picked up some goods from the small pile next to the horse and began to tie them on about the already heavily laden animal, "I suppose its something to do with free will and basic freedom or suchlike, I dunno."
She crouched down next to the fire and picked up two ammuntion bandoliers, slinging them across her quite ample breasts to join the pair of rifles slung across her slender back she stood up. "I'm going to leave you most of what I couldn't recover, the food I mentioned, and the airplane, though I may be back for that someday."
"Please, Drew, " the man said weakly, "..go back to the camp, get help..."
"They'd probably shoot me if I don't know the password or something, still, I might try and see that little fellow Luakel again sometime after they've gotten established " said the girl, "...and my name is MORGAN, dickweed, you changed your mind, remember, and Morgan WEBB not Morgan Sessler, if you're fucking someone you'd think you could at least get her name right, even if I am just a clone."
She walked over and got on the horse, showing the style of an experienced bareback rider. Expertly turning the animal to the cave opening she looked down at the strange man with what now seemed genuine sympathy on the chiseled yet delicate features of her beautiful face.
"How does it feel?", she asked quietly.
"It's...damned painful, you bitch.." replied the man, " you know I didn't pack painkillers. "
"I don't mean your leg, I mean knowing that not even omnipotent magical beings could enable you to sustain a relationship." She kicked the animal's sides and left the cave without a backward glance.
The strange man watched the fire die down for a long moment. "...could be worse," he said very quietly, " could be it I couldn't even manage it in a fantasy I was making up myself."
(To be continued, I'm not dead yet;) )

Still, the all-important livestock were enclosed in a pen of sorts. As he wandered back to the temporary location where he'd pitched his tent (still next to the wagon which no one had bothered to hitch up to a horse yet), he wondered what Michelle had chosen for supper... or if anyone had brought in a load of firewood yet so she could actually cook supper...

Psychomeltdown
December 5th, 2005, 11:50 PM
The horse thundered beneath him, a surge of power and speed. The wind tugged at his clothing and the grass made a hissing sound as the horse tore through it.
it was exhilarating. Psycho took a moment to grin, before having to clutch at the saddle-horn to avoid falling off. It had been a while since he had the chance to ride a horse at full speed. But old skills were coming back his balance, his posture, and the rough waxy feel of a new lasso in his hands.
Like a hunting animal, Rose kept on the speed and kept on the tail of the prey. A frightened steer that had bolted after someone had tried shooting a jackrabbit.
One thing to note, animals who hadn't heard gunshots are scared of it. Luckily it was one of the things he'd asked the ASBs to provide and Rose hadn't been fazed by it.
They were gaining on it, Psycho released the saddle-horn and used his legs to keep him on the horse. In his right hand he let out a length of the lasso, creating a loop and then began twirling it over his head as they gained ground on the steer. This was always the difficult part.
The loop snapped out and Psycho knew it was going get it. He immediately began pulling the horse to the left just as the lasso tightened upon the horns of the steer. The lasso began to whip out of Psycho's hand as the two animals moved in different directions, but he quickly looped it around the saddle horn, bracing himself.
He felt the lasso jerk, the whole horse gave a slight falter as it stopped the steer cold and forced it into a new direction.
Psycho gave a sigh of relief. It had been a long time since he'd been in Team Ropings, but it seemed he hadn't completely lost the skill.
He grinned, trotting the horse over to the now panting steer. He pulled the lasso off it's horns and noticed a slight rope burn on his fingers. His hands weren't calloused for this type of work, it seemed gloves were in the order.
XXX
"Looks like we got meat for tonight." Nizhoni said, holding up the carcass of the dismembered jackrabbit.
"Horray." Psycho said, pulling a pair of roping gloves from their equipment. "Got soft girly hands." He informed at her questioning look.
Nizhoni scoffed. "Looks like someone's eating pinole tongiht."

The group had settled in for the night. The horses were fed, and tied up. Someone started a campfire. The scouts gathered around, and started on MREs again for dinner. The meals were perfect for the situation.... for as long as they lasted. MBarry noted several entire pallets of MREs made the trip. If they were carefully parcelled out to only those groups who need light, portable food they would last a while.
The group settled down as started the age old custom of swapping rations. Meatloaf for Hamburger Patty. Peanut butter for Cheese Spread. M&Ms for skittles. Shrimp Jamabala for... nothing... Poor General Paul, thats just the luck of the draw sometimes.
Stories were swapped, most of the men here were experenced veterans of the military or of the field. Someone had a flash of... something. A watch was established and the Board Rangers had their first night sleep.

December 6th, 2005, 12:26 AM
The murmur of the crowd resonated loudly among the initial encampment, as a staggering amount of conversations were heard, among the most random, and seemingly trivial subjects about future life, where only a specialist could safely venture. There was the talk about the farm animals, the murmur of digging lavatories, the respectful silence given to people who were armed to the teeth, cries for medicine, and the plea for authority. Right at the moment when one person was offering another one of his mechanical watches, a strange person appeared into the picture.
Afterwards, in the annals of history, when it was frankly too late, various historians collected their data and issued descriptions of this man. Their similarities simply couldn't not bring a smile on a face. The California Chronicles described him as a gigantic individual, had an immeasurable strength and exceptional cunning. He was said to have led entire armies across the continent and reshaped the lands of America. However another document, just as reliable, which incidentally was the American History, finally published in 1549 and dreaded by any European scholar, after long cross-referencing described him as dwarfish individual, with the only mention of his activities as pety theft. It was promptly concluded that he was found guilty and executed 2 years after his arrival. A third source completely discounted that person, saying that he was a myth.
Although to be honest, neither of these sources were worth anything.
But, from the beginning: the man was neither incredibly tall, nor short, he was not too stout, but neither too thin, he wasn't exceptionally brilliant, nor unbearably dimwitted, the only thing for certain was that he was very young. His arrival created no stir and his life not marked by anything out of the ordinary, that couldn't have been lost thoughtout time.

After several hours of cutting and splitting, Norbert was tired, but satisfied. He looked at the crew who was working with him and gave them a tired smile. 'Now, all we need to do, folks, is get a day ahead of the usage, and we can have a day of rest! You are probably as tired as I am, but we did good. Go back to your tents and familes, and relax. Nothing more strenuous than eating and drinking, tomorrow will be a long day!' Making certain that the axes and saws were being carried in a manner that would help prevent an accidental injury, the crew made their way to the camp proper,. Norbert went to his tent, put his tools away, and looked at his wife. 'Dear, I am just a wee bit out of shape for this. I guess its a good thing I am stubborn, or I would have colapsed a couple of hours ago.' Carla looked at Norbert, helped him to his camp chair, and pushed him down into it. 'Supper is ready, and I have a pot going with some towels in it. Lets get you cleaned up, and get you fed. I don't forsee any other entertainment for you for some time. I was talking with the others, and they think that type of entertainment should be held off on until August, and if you continue the way you are now, it will be August before you will not be to tired for it anyway!' The last was lost on Norbert, though, as he had fallen asleep already. She asked for some help, and when she found it, Norbert was carried into the tent and put to bed.

The buffalo was fast.
Miranda had nearly fallen off when he had given the word to take off out of the crowd and into the woods. He had nearly fallen off. He had nearly dropped his rifle. He had nearly let Miranda fall off the saddle. He had very nearly yelled into the air at the surprise of it. The buffalo was fast.
Hanging onto the thick fur of the buffalo, Warren felt around frantically for some object to hang onto. He bumped around the saddle, holding the beautiful girl with his other arm. And catching a loose strap with his fingers, he quickly pulled upwards, and pulled it around the girl's waist for a couple of loops. She was still unconcious. He knotted the strap firmly around the girl, and knotted it again twice around the horn of the saddle. He then quickly regained himself, held tight onto the saddle, looked at his surroundings, and took a deep breath.
It was sunny. There were no people around him any longer, and their unnatural voices were only barely audible above the rythmic beat of the buffalo's hooves. He noticed again it was sunny. The trees above him were green. The air was crisp and cool. He was in California.
Warren smiled to himself again, and in doing so caught his eyes on a white, plastic box, strapped to the neck of the beast. His smile vanished. He stared at the box. Stared at the three other boxes around it. His face grew to a grimace.
Pounds and pounds of it. Warren didn't breath.
Warren, you really are a disgusting individual. He grimly nodded to himself.
Warren. Those are drugs. You brought drugs to the new world. Pounds and pounds of it.
You are disgusting.
And the buffalo pounded on, the wind blowing through Warren's hair, but he was not happy with the experience any longer. A pressure lodged itself in his chest, and he could barely breath. He stared at the white boxes. In a fluid motion Warren found the Exacto-knife in his deep camoflauged pockets. He flipped it open. He cut the stifling ropes that were looped through thin slits in the ominous cases.
The heavy plastic boxes dropped quickly and out of his sight. A thud sounded behind him. And as if in response, the buffalo quickened it's pace. Warren skipped a breath, realizing what he'd just done. He rode on. He didn't look back.

I smile back, "No, its not. At least this time I don't have to pine away over my lost family. Instead, I get to worry about keeping them alive and prosperous."
With a nod of the head to Glen, "Yeah, both of us were in that boat. I'm not sure if the rest of the SHWIers knew how lucky they were. Too bad we don't have Cathy, or Jussi, or Demetrios even.
Anyway, let me know where you want me and I'll start moving stuff over there."
Straha
December 6th, 2005, 05:45 AM
Straha sat down on the ground tired and watched the setting sun. It had been a long time since he had done any big physical work so he felt more tired than ever. The weight of being trapped in the past without any access to future conveniences like the internet or electricity weighed down on him.
After looking back at the sun one last time he entered the tent at which point Jasmine started in on me. I knew you were crazy from the first time I met you! You WOULD
I reply with "but when I first joined AH.com in 2002 I didn't know this was going to happen! and I didn't think the ASBs would really send everyone back to the post who posted on that thread".
Look Dave you're crazy! I could be watching MTV right now
Hey I didn't ask to be sent into the past I only posted on one thread... one... bloody... thread...

"Makes sense to me. Any prerequisites for your group other than some outdoors or military training?"
"Will anybody with military training or exceptional outdoors skills find your way over to me. Thank you. That is all.
Wandering over to find out what is wanted here.
"Hi, you called for military and outdoors."
Norbert
December 6th, 2005, 05:54 AM
It was dark when Norbert woke up. 'Where am I? Did I let myself get talked into camping with the Scouts again? Damn! I hurt all over! Wait a minute, who is this beside me? What the blazes is going on?' Fumbling for the flashlight, I turn it on and look at who is beside me. 'Carla? Wait a minute, that can't be, we went our seperate ways years ago!' Carla opens her eyes, squints at the light, and tells me to turn the damn thing off and go back to sleep, you have to get to work early in the morning. 'Work? I'm retired, and what are you doing here?' She sits up and says 'Dummy, we're married, we are near San Francisco in a wilderness you put us into, and you have a logging detail to lead!'
'Oh shit. It wasn't a dream!'
And with that, she takes the flashlight from my hands, and pulls me down beside her and tells me to just shut up and go back to sleep, and she'll see if anyone has some linament in the morning.

Yes, I did. That gentlemen that is currently leaving is our resident Marine veteran. He'll be leading the expedition to scout out the area for suitable campsites. If you have any expertise, he's the man to see about your qualifications. I'm just here to organize."

OOC: @ shadestrom, well technically we brought drugs too. Marijuana and I think plants to make cocaine. it's all medical and industrial uses.
Though I think i should knock back on the amount I'm bringing since Straha seems to be bringing some. what 20 lbs of seed per an acre?

I brought 30 pounds of marijuana seeds not actual pot plants.

"Got experence in both. However Dr. Finney called for people with medical training. Since you're organizing stuff - where do you want me."

"I say scouting. Scouting is of more primary importance. Doesn't seem like we've got too many injuries, so Glen should be fine for now. But, depending on how things work out, you may be needed. So don't get too attached to scouting."

If you'd like, you can be assigned to go with them as the scouting party medic they requested.

If anyone finds any abandoned drugs or seeds, they are to be brought to the medical headquarters for evaluation for utility.

(OOC - Please note that I wasn't volunteering but simply answering calls for people with various skills. That said, if you want me to go then I will. How long, what do you want us to take, etc.)

3-4 days, mounted. Food, water, shelter(bivy sack and sleeping bag), wet weather gear in case it turns sour. Maps, compass. Personal effects. I'll provide a Lee-Enfield(.30-06 variety) for ya and 60 rounds of ammo. We're going to the Bay and back, verify the accuracy of the maps(they're not).
It's real basic. None of us are used to time in the saddle, so it can give us some experence.

Check. I will be bringing 3 GMRS radios (if you want) as well as other stuff.
Will need a horse though, my family brought a pack mule. It's been a little over 3 years since I spent any extended time in the saddle so I will have no argument on not pushing ourselves.
Question - you are talking about the classic No. 1 Mark III SMLE simply rechambered to 30-06 correct? Would prefer my own rifle but no problem.
Also, what is the planned route?

The Radios are a good addition. I didn't bring any with me because of battery issues, but if we have em, we should use em.
If your rifle is .30-06 then go right ahead.
We're very roughly following were I-880 would be. Since the geography is different, and there is no interstate, we'll deviate quite a bit from it. Eventually we'll get to the bay near Sunnyvale.
