In Harry Turtledove's Colonization series (the sequel to the Worldwar series) after Earl Warren killed himself, Harold Stassen became PotUS. One thing I was wondering about was, what were Stassen's chances of being elected to a term in his own right? Would he have even survived the primaries? And, what would the remainder of Stassen's term(s) have looked like if we were to see it?

Stassen probably still has a reputation as a peressial loser. Aferwards, there is a 50/50 chance his successor pursues Detente with the Lizards or is a warmongerer who convinces congress to amend their alt-Civil Rights Act so that it only counts for humans. Knowing Turtledove, it's probably the former, but the latter is more interesting.
