Quartermain is a good choice, but both Hellboy and Butterholm present problems. Besides being at least a century after Brunel's time, they also clearly work for an American agency.

The Worlds

Earth-Primus: Like ours until 1851.
Earth-Secundus: Victoria died in the 1860's.
Eden: A world like that envisioned by the Kroft Brothers, with A. Conan Doyle's Lost World, & the Burrough's Caprona thrown in for good measure.
Damocles: A future Earth where a series of asteriods hit ten years ago.
Tirnanog: A world of High Magic.
Earth-Tertius: Much like our world, but Jeb Bush was elected in 2000. Instead of the World Trade Center getting destroyed, there was a series of coordinated attacks in New York, Boston, Washington D.C., Chicago, LA, Seattle, Houston, plus some attempted attacks on a few military bases.

The years are different on these worlds. Currently it is 1882 on Primus and Secunds, 2005 on Tertius, 2145 on Damocles. The years on Eden and Tirnanog are not analagous to the other worlds. Eden was the first world they found, and it was on purpose. Secundus and Damocles was found about ten years into the partnership, both within hours of each other. It had not been long after the deaths of Victoria on Secundus, and Albert on Primus. Then it was Tirnanog, and finally Tertius. The founding of the others came about after a lightning strike threw off the calabrations of Clifford and Babbage.

I'm familiar with both the graphic novel and movie. The important point is as a demon he wasn't born - but rather he was summoned. Didn't you ever read your "Deities & Demigods"? Also it appears that he was 'adopted' by the US Army regiment that 'liberated' him. He clearly appears to favor Babe Ruth bars (if I remember right). The most telling thing is his 'blue collar' Brooklyn accent!

Hellboy is half-human. Momma was a witch who summoned a Lord of Hell, and mated with him. She was burned at the stake before he could be born, when Rasputin summoned the means to defeat the allies, he conjured the infant Hellboy. (The movie was good, but the comic is better.)

The Worlds of D&D are alright, but I don't like the gaming system, at least in Edition 2. D20 Modern is alright.

You are right about Hellboy's beginnings. I should have looked in my copy of the Hellboy Sourcebook and RPG.

I guess Charles Darwin could be another member. Somehow I get a feeling that one should take a look at that terrible movie "Young Einstein" in order to fathom out other Victorian geniuses.

Oh, did I mention that Professor Butterholm was part of the British Paranormal Society? That he only became an American citizen when they wanted to take him to America for further research. :D

Glad to know that there are Hellboy lovers here as well. Anyway, that's off-topic. So what's this multiverse of yours going to be like? I could give a few ideas at the moment.

- An Aztec Empire which stretches across 2, 569 timelines, with very alternate and advanced technology (utilizing ritual blood sacrifices to "feed" their A.I. gods).

- Discovering the fabled core world, Ab-Juda Earth, the Earth which started it all. ;)

- Orichalcum-powered mecha and 7-foot steam skeleton men armed with Tesla Lightning Cannons.

- Martians dominating a thousand timelines with their heat-ray equipped, force-shielded Tripods and Flyers.

- Superhero George Washington going on a rampaging crusade against Pax Britannica on many worldlines uncomfortably close to Earth-Primus.

The martian's haven't got parachronic technology yet- thank God, but they do dominate an unpleasantly large number of Earths. The Aztec epire seems a bit large.

Don't forget the world with 1/3 the land mass above water as ours- think Waterworld crossed with Patrick O'Brian as the Royal Navy protect kelp beds and whale herds from the despicable French...

No Martians, and if I did do a Washington type superhero, he'd be something like Batman, or the Scarecrow. There is a conferation of city-states on Eden that combine the cultures and peoples of a bunch of different Meso-American cultures, as it might be that ancient homeland of some of the Amerindian tribes. Smuz's idea has merit, but I'll have to find away to use it, if that is okay.

That's because they used Machine Guns to repel Cortez back in 1521, on their timeline. Fast forward into the present (2000 A.D.) and you see that they are much more advanced than any other OTL nation, including the United States. Why?

Because they use A.I.s powered by blood sacrifices, staff weapons that fire maser bolts and personalized hovercrafts. And they have this big temples that appear over their targeted cities across the continuum, and there are tens of thousands of those. :D

But, their weakness is the Master Computer aka Quetzalcoatl. Being a sentient software, it has thoughts and feelings that are just like ours. And it thinks that the Empire is just like diarrhea, a disease spreading across the Infinite Worlds. So, it plots and wait for the right moment to seize control and create a more benevolent Aztlan domain.

The Timeline for Earth-Primus

287BC-212BC: The life of Archimedes of Syracuse, inventor, engineer, philosopher, etc. During his education in Egypt a series of ancient scrolls, supposedly liberated from the Library of Alexandria, come into his possesion. He expands upon them, and they also laid the groundwork for many of his inventions and innovations.

212BC: During end of the Siege of Syracuse, Archimedes is killed by a Roman soldier. The scrolls, which will later become known as the Syracuse Codex end up as part of the booty taken back to Rome. They will change hands down through the centuries, and they will come into the possession of many of the great thinkers and scientists. People such as Leonardo da Vinci, Copnericus, Brahe, Paracelsus, and Sir Francis Bacon, to name a few. Each man will use the knowledge of the Codex to futher his experiments, and he will also expand upon it.

Mid-15th Century: An as yet unknown person, binds the Codex into its current form.

Johann Carl Friedrich Gauss (1777-1855)

1793: (Cottengin University) Johann Gauss comes into the possession of the Codex, which he found in a chest he had purchased to use for storage. It will help him with his many discoveries.

Charles Babbage (b.1791)

1827: In the wake of personal tragedies, Charles Babbage travels the Continent, visting many colleges and universities. While visiting Cottengin University, he happens to meet Gauss. They strike up a correspondence that will last until Gauss' death.

Isambard Kingdom Brunel (b.1806)

Ada King, Countess Lovelace (b. 1815)

1842: Lady Ada Lovelace begins a correspondence with Babbage.

1843: After building the Great Britian, Brunel takes a sabbatical to Baden-Baden, while there he meets Gauss. Brunel makes a very good impression on Gauss, and the two men become friends. He will design the Great Eastern, but not build it, leaving that up to his partner, R.P. Brereton. (In this ATL, Brunel sticks to building bridges and railroads. He also does not suffer the "sovereign incident" that his counter-part suffered in OTL. He also doesn't suffer the stroke in 1859, as he is still going strong in 1882.)

1844: During another sabbatical to Baden-Baden to visit Gauss, Brunel meets Babbage, a man he only knows by reputation. The two become associates, if not friends.

1845: Gauss, in a letter, convinces Babbage to let Brunel have a look at the engine. With Brunel's help, the Engine is finished by 1847. They power it up, and it works. Babbage decides to give it to Cambridge University, they install it, and at first, don't use it. In 1849, the British Government gives him money to build his Analytical Engine, on the recommendation to Sir Robert Peel.

1850: Brunel and Babbage outfit the special workshop that Babbage, had built behind his house at 1 Dorest Street in London, to make components for the Analytical Engine. They Babbage & Brunel Works are born on April 12.

1851: A working model of the Difference Engine is put on display at the Crystal Palace. One of the visitors is Richard F. Burton, who makes the aquaintance of Babbage & Brunel.

1853: The Analytical Engine is built, and it works. The British Goverment buys two more, which will be delivered by 1957.

1855: Gauss dies, and in his will he leaves the chest he had purchased years ago to Babbage & Brunel. In it is the Codex, and an English translation that Guass had commonissed in 1843. Within its pages were answers that allowed Babbage & Brunel to streamline the process of building Analytical Engines. The two the government bought are delivered ahead of schedule, in 1856.

April, 1855: While Consulting the Codex, Babbage concieves what what will be called the "Janus Engine". With the help of Brunel, he draws up the plans for the Janus Engine. But, do to more orders for Analytical Engines, these plans will be put on hold for almost a decade.

1856: To keep up with demand, a second workshop is built in London.

1857: The US governement puts an order of an Analytical Engine, as does the government of France. Both of which will be delivered in 1860.

1858: The British Raj puts in an order for an Analytical Engine. To be delivered in 1861.

1860: After using the Analytical Engine to compute all of the Ley lines of England, Babbage puchases some land near Woodbridge, Suffolk, in Rendlesham Forest. Brunel, using the Codex, he comes up with the plans for the Steam Turnbine. (14 years before Parsons in OTL.) In 1861, the 2 turbines are complete, Brunel sells one to The Great Western Railway Company.

1861: The construction of the Rendalshem Campus is begun, it will be complete by 1863. December 14, Prince Albert dies.

1862: During the construction of the Janus Engine, Brunel and Babbage hit a snag. They need the prospective of another mathamatician. Babbage uses his academic contacts to find William Kingdon Clifford, a student at Trinity College. Cifford's perspective on mathematics will prove very useful in the years to come.

William Kingdon Clifford (b. 1845)

June 12, 1863: Construction for the main complex of the Rendalshem Campus in finished. By October, the Brunel Steam Turbine No. 2 is assembled on site. By March of 1864, the Janus Engine will be complete.

April 3, 1864: The Janus Engine is activated.A small party of friends, business aquatantces, and government officals are on hand, along with a few military officers. At first, it is thought that a viewing portal is created. It shows a lush, jungle-like location. A roar rips through the area, and a ten foot tall Tyrannosaurid comes into view. It notices the portal, and investigates. Much to the shock and awe of the assembled group, it comes through the portal. The crowd scatters, and the creature is puzzled. A couple to the officers start shotting, and it enrages the creature, which sweeps the officers, and a few of the crowd out of the way, and makes off through the open doors of the Complex. It takes up residence in Rendlesham forest. The Janus Engine is shut down. Through blind, stupid change, no one was kills, though there where a few broken bones, and shattered nerves. For the next few years, the Rendlesham Beast takes its toal on the local wild life and farm animals.

April 27, 1864: After an inquest into the events of Opening Day, as it comes to be called, the Engine is turned back on. Richard Francis Burton is retained to lead a small expedition through the gate, into the world beyond. It is also decided that the Gate will be switched off and on over a period of hours, to keep the chance of another Beast from comming through.

April 29, 1864: The Burton Expedition heads off into the wilds of the world that will become known as Eden. Burton, and most of his party will return a month later, with the representatives of a local tribe. The Noneths, as they call themselves, are a tribe made up of humans and humaniod Saurians. They come to trade for more of magic of the Britians. One of the items that brought trade is an apple sized fruit that will eventually become know as Midas Plums. Over the period of the next few weeks, and treaty is hammered out between the Noneth Nation, and the British Empire.

June 12, 1864: The British Otherworlds Company is founded.

A most amusing little timeline. Personally, I'd like to see crosstime machines that move themselves rather than create gates, a la HG Wells or Back to the OTL, but only so one can be installed on the Ottoman Express (tours from Earth-Primus to Eden to Earth-Secundus, all in less than a week!).

Think Samarkand meets Teotihuacan, by way of Istanbul, Rhonda, and Alexandria. It is first and formost a city of trade. Its original name is lost to antiquity, but it is old. The Noneth Tribe came upon it about 150 years ago, the city, which takes up most of a lonely, almost circular plateau. It is made up of a mixture of styles and motifs. Its almost as if someone had ISOT'ed portions of cities, from other worlds that they liked. Anyway, the Noneth just called it home, and when they heard Coleridge's Poem, Xanadu, they decided to rename the city that. They added Above-the-Clouds, because of large, heavy banks of fog that appear in on the plains surrounding the city, in the hours before sunrise.

Brunel, Babbage, and company consider 1855 to be the founding year of the British Otherworlds Company, even though it offically didn't come into being until the mid-1860's.

Very interesting. So for Earth-Primus, are you going to flesh out the TL a bit more? For instance, how does having a Babbage Machine help or hinder the US during the ACW? It seems like it could be used to help route trains, supplies, troops, etc. more efficiently, possibly shortening the war?

It takes the Union a bit to figure out, but when they do, the results do give some of the people in government the a means by which certain items where introduced earlier, like the Minne ball, rifled barrels, and breech loaded guns. It also keeps McClellan and Hooker from being given the postions that they got in our OTL. Through using the Babbage Engine, they even give Grant more consideration, and Vicksburg falls six months sooner. The War was not significantly shorter, but some of the campaigns went better for the North. The Engine didn't survive the war, as a group of Confederate spies saboataged it in late 1863.

Most of the human contingent of the Noneth Tribe are descendents of the Legio Nonae Hispania, aka the Ninth Legion Hispania, aka the Lost Legion. They may, or may not be the Ninth from Primus, though. By their calendar, the Ninth showed up on Eden some five to six hundred years ago.

There are two species of Saurian humanoids on Eden. One group are called the Mae'Saun, and the other are called the Chusae. The Mae'Saun are descended from Deinonycus and the Chusae are descended from the Troodon.

Primus, Part 2

July, 1864: During the delicate operation of trying to move the opening of the Eden portal closer to Xanadu-Above-the-Clouds, the Janus Engine is struck by lightning, from a freak thunderstorm. It takes Brunel and Clifford two days to recalibrate the Engine. During the process, the portal shows two views, one of a forest clearing and the other of a vast city of metal and glass. During the early morning hours on the second day after the storm, Clifford restablishes the Eden Portal, at the base of the city, in what will become known as Victoria Square. They also decide to shut down the portal every few hours to take strain off the turbine, because by this time, its as if the turnbine has been on a non-stop tour around the world, twice. They also set up a rotating watch in during the times that the Engine is running.

July to September, 1864: The Company moves workmen and material through the gate to build a warehouse/base one the site of the portal. The warehouse is finished by October of 1864.

October 1, 1864: During a mid-afternoon shut down an maintenance, a small metal tube comes through the portal. Initally, it it thought that the crew on Eden was trying out a way to send private communications. That is until the employee sees the words, PRODUCT OF CONSOL. MANHATTAN NANO-FOUNDRY. The tube is taken to the house that Brunel was having built on the Campus. He opens it, and inside there are two sheets of what is later found of be a type of metal that is as thin and as flexible as paper, and an envelope.
One sheet is a set of complicated equations; the second in a printed letter of introduction from a Mr. Reginald Addison, Chief Supervisior of the Consolidated Manhattan Metroplex; and an envelope with of what look to be tie pins that will allow the representatives free access to the complexes, offices, and buildings of Consolidated Manhattan. During the next start up phase, a message is sent to Babbage on Eden. It is decided that after the mathematical equations are deciphered that another expedition will be sent through, lead by Richard Burton, after they convince the British Government to call him back from Brazil, which they do.

Mid-November, 1864: After a few weeks of sleepless nights, Clifford, with the help of Brunel, deciphers the equations. Now all they have to do is wait for Burton to return.

January 12, 1865: The equations are calibrated, and the portal opens to the world that will be called "Damocles". It is agreed that Burton and co. will return in one day's time to the place where the portal opens. Burton and his three companions appear in a mostly empty warehouse. After twenty minutes, they get their first glimpse of future tech, as a remote controlled, floating forklift comes across the warehouse. That they handle well, its the holographic head that appears to ask them their business. A beam shoots out, and scans them, and reads the small pins that they had affixed to their lapels. The robotic forklift summons a floating tram, the forklift then turns them over to the tram, which takes them the ten miles to the office of Mr. Addison.
In time, they are delivered to the outter foyer of Mr. Addison's office. They are ushered inside, and they meet the man in question, who turns out to be another of the holograms. When the hologram tries to speak, Burton asks why they can't see Addison in person, and Addison answers bluntly that he hasn't been able to meet anyone in person for over fifty years, as he is disembodied brain hooked up to machines to communicate with humans. But, he says that he can send bio-avatar if Mr. Burton wishes. Ten minutes later, a fleshy representation comes into the office. Burton then gets a quick overview of the history of this world, from 1864 to 2149. Addison-Beta, as the avatar calls itself, also explains how the message was sent, and what he is willing to trade for the information to make large portals, and some other things trade items. Some of which Burton thinks are strange, from a herd of cows, to 5512 tons of water from the Atlantic Ocean. Burton and his companions are put up for the night.

January 13, 1865: Burton, with another avatar named Addison-Gamma, and his companions return to Primus. Addison-Gamma meets with Babbage, Brunel, and repersentatives of the British Goverment. A deal is hammered out. Addison-Gamma will supply material, and the knowledge of its up keep for his list of trade items, and he also gets access to the Archimedes Codex. During this meeting, Addison-Gamma coins the designation "Damocles" for his world.
The Codex is brought out, and Addison pulls a small device from a pocket of his coat, and scans the whole Codex in a few minutes. They then return to the portal, Addison stands infront of it, and sends a signal. A troop of robots comes trough, along with the start of the items promised the Company. Amoung the items; a moderatly powerful green, hydrogen fuel cell; a fuel cell equipped vehicle; and hard copy of the history of Damocles; and many other items and manuels for their operations. First, Addison-Gamma has an emergency fusion generation attached to the Janus Engine, and then has the Steam Turbine taken off-line. In a process that take 12 hours, the tubine is taken off coal, and attached to a green hydrogen fuel cell. The turbine is then given a liberal dusting of "bucky" lubricant, reattached to the Janus Engine, and brought back on-line. Now it can run 24/7 for the next six months. Addison-Gamma and the robots return through the portal, and promise to return in a week's time. The Janus Engine is then reset to Eden.

Magic exists on Eden. A shamatic tradition exists amoungst the Mae'Saun, and the Chusae. These shamans can do some pretty wondorous things with their knowledge.

The tribal totem of the Noneth Tribe is the Hawk. Over the years, as they went from being a legion of Rome to a tribe of Eden, the Hawk was a constant. It is now the symbol of the tribe, and the regnal symbol of the Chief. The Noneth Tribe is also very egalitiarian, a tradition that come about with the blending of the original Noneth, who where mostly patriarchal; the Mae'Saun, who where supremely matriarchal; and the Chusae who were much the same as the Mae'Saun. The Noneth retained the secrets of iron smithing, and the other two groups had the secret of bronze. Within the last few decades, they had been experimenting with trying to make steel.

Primus, Part 3

(Here it is, pardon misspellings and mistakes.)

January 21, 1865: At 10:02 GMT, ten miles above the isle of Great Britiain, in a geosynchronous orbit, a portal appears. Though the portal comes a satellite. Within this satellite, is a perminent, pinhole sized portal that leads back to the dimension of Damocles. The only other tech on board is for tracking. At about the same time, ten miles over Eden, in a geosynchronous orbit over Xanadu-Above-the-Clouds, a similar satellite appears. At 1:05 GMT, at the Rendelsham Campus, a portal opens in what is now called the Terminus Room, and through it steps Addison-Beta, along with a woman named Bramwell-Delta. They go to meet Babbage and Brunel.
Over the last week, Babbage, Brunel, and a team of lesser government functionaries have been going over all of the hard copy that Addison-Gamma had given them. They are stunned, and amazed by what they have learned from the history of Damacles. From the coming wars next few centuries, and the causes of them. Addison-Beta arrives, and introduces his associate, Bramwell-Delta, an avatar of the speaker of the Conclave of Cities, the council that passes for the government of Damocles. They set down another treaty that expands on the earlier treaty with Consolidated Manhattan, and now includes the entire world of Damocles.
While this meeting is going on, a troop of robots come through the second portal with a large amount of components of what looks like a second Janus Engine. After the meeting with Babbage, Brunel, and company, Bramwell-Delta returns though the portal to Damocles. Addison-Beta stay behind to supervise the building of an Egress Arch for the portal from Damocles. After shifting some of the goods from Eden, the contruction begins, and it finished in a few hours. During the interval, Addison-Beta explains that now it will be easier to keep the portals between the worlds open. Addison-Beta also expresses an interest in meeting the leaders of the Noneth Tribe. A messenger is sent to set up a meeting. He returns, and a meeting will be held in a few day's time, as most of the tribe is still taking care of the products of the Summer Hunt.

January 25, 1865: Addison-Beta arrives at Rendalsham Terminus, and Bramwell-Delta is with him. They wait for Babbage and Brunel to arrive, and the four of them travel to Eden. Burton, who spends a fair amount of time in Xanadu, is there with the leadership of the Noneth Tribe. The leaders are Geyus Megnas, the High Chief; Zovral, Chief Augur; and Xaj; Chief Hunter. They have been told of the world of Damocles, and they wish to see the magic from this world. Bramwell-Delta nods, and a troop of robots come through the portal, with all manner of items. Pots, knives, guns, compound bows, and arrows by the score. There is also a bunch of crates that are not opened. These are the componets of another Egress Portal.
Xaj, picks up one of the bows, and after a bit of fiddling, finds out how to change the tension. She aims at one of the compys that are the pests of Xanadu, and fires. She is satisifed. Zorval had already made up his mind earlier in the day, when an augury he had made had good portents. Megnas is the only one who remains to convince. He wants to know how his people will be recieved by those of Damocles. Already there have been a few incident with some of the Company's workers, and how they have treated women, and some of the Mae'Saun & Chusae. Bramwell-Delta gives a solumn promise that they will be treated with the utmost respect. Megnus agrees to the alliance. The first troop of robots starts to assemble another Egress Portal. At the signal of Bramwell-Delta, another troop of robots come through, with even more componets. It is the makings of a Damocles-style Janus Engine, and a green fuel cell to power. A few hours later it is assembled, and a young man comes through the portal from Primus. His name is Joshua Addison, and he is the grandson of Reginald Addison. He calibrates the Eden Janus Engine, in twenty-minutes, and activates it. Eden, Primus, and Damocles are now linked. A few days later, after a long celebration, Babbage and Brunel return to Primus, and Addison-Beta and Bramwell-Delta return to Damocles.

Mid-Feburary, 1865: What looks to be a ridgid airship appears above Rendelsham, its called the Cormorant. On board is Addison-Gamma, and he has come to show Brunel and Babbage another version of the Janus Engine. This version is portable. After Babbage and Brunel are on board, the ship shifts to Eden. They appear above Victoria Square. A messenger is sent for Burton, and any of the Noneth leadership that wish to come. Burton and Zorval arrive, and come on board the Cormorant. The ship then jumps to Damocles. For the first time, people from Primus and Eden get to see what the surface of Damocles looks like. The sky is a muddy grey color. When they see the landscape, it looks like a great war has been fought. They are shown the Atlantic Ocean, and it is a sickly green color. This is what the world looks like after the Damocles Swarm hit it, and it will be many years before this Earth will bloom again. Lucky, most of humanity had moved to Mars, orbiting habitats, and a terraformed Venus.This earth is a major producer of materials for the orbiting habitats, and they also ship to Mars and Venus. After a few hours, they all return to their homes.

The language of the Nonth Tribe is a corrupted form of Latin that was found on the frontiere of the Roman Empire. Burton was able to understand them, after a fashion. The Mae'Saun and the Chusae are crafty races, and they picked up English pretty quickly, similar to some types of parrots.

Primus, Part 4

(same as with Part 3)

March, 1865: A penal colony is established 100 miles north of Xanadu-Above-the-Clouds. It is completed by a troop of constuction robots from Damocles, in less then three months. It is called Camp Tartarus, and because of its, to the internees, futuristic facilities, there are very few escapes.

April 15, 1865: Early in the day, a small craft warps into the airspace outside of Washington, DC. On board is Addison-Delta, who is on a mission to save Abraham Lincoln. He hangs around Ford's Theatre, and cools his heels. He is successful in stopping Booth before the man can get near the President. Addison-Delta is waiting for the President and his company in the box. He explains what has happened. They move to a room in the back of the theatre, where Addison-Delta administers a true drug to Booth. What follows is a disertation on a far reaching conspiracy. In the wake of Booth's confession, Secretary of War Stanton, Big Jim Fisk, Daniel Drew, Jay Gould, William Macy Tweed, and J.P. Morgan where all arrested on charges of treason. In later weeks, members of the Knights of the Golden Circle, and the other members of Tammany Hall are all arrested. (In the wake of these trials, the Robber Barons don't gain the power they did in OTL. They also have a harder time of quashing the Labor Movement.) At some point during this time, Addison-Delta secretly administers medical nano-tech to Lincoln and his wife. Lincoln lives into his ninties, and Mary doesn't go as crazy.

June, 1865: Babbage and Brunel go to Damocles, and have themselves regenerated. They return at the end of July, both looking and felling years younger. The British Otherworlds Company is also reorganized.

August, 1865: Though it has been an open secret, the British Government, and the British Otherworlds Company come clean about the travel to the worlds of Eden an Damocles. The first walking tours of Xanadu-Above-the-Clouds are organized. Plans for a couple of inns and a posh hotel are finalized, for Primus. A hotel is also planned to be build in Xanadu, but the city's water an sewage have to be fixed first. Addison-Prime sends a bunch of robot work crews and the componets for a treatment plant, which is one large brown fuel cell. The plant will also be utilized to provide power for parts of the city. They also bring components for kite style wind turbines.

1) Earth-Fimbulwinter: Ahnenerbe SS magics discovered by Edmund Kiss in his expedition to Tihuanaco in 1928 brings back the Ice Age. Now, Nazi Germany is the master of the entire European continent, or those parts that are still "Ice-less". America fortifies its Bering land bridge while watching Japan carefully as it conquers the East Indies for oil. Meanwhile, OSS investigations reveal that Germany is building a huge invasion fleet supported by FockeWulf Rakete fighters and Aesir "Gods" in Norway.

2) Nergal: The world is in a perpetual state of darkness. So cold, so bleak and very grim. It started with the Assyrian's dark sorceries, and ends with the icy gates of hell creaking open. Magic is a very real thing in this world and its not the type found in fairy tales and youth novels but in grim, macabre Chaos. To wield magic is to kill oneself slowly. Here, the dark lords of Asshur make war against Kanavashya and Aztlan with their legions of horrible daemons and sorcerers. Here, Assyrian Priests offer the hearts and entrails of their human sacrifices to Asshur, Nergal, Tzenth and Shaarnor.

3) Britannica-5: A steampunk reality where by the British Empire is the dominant world power, ever since the Martian invasion was beaten back a decade ago. Now, Steam-Spiders and Heat Rifles conquer the bows and arrows of Southeast Asia, Africa and South America, and the cannons and repeaters of the United States and Prussia. Imperial Russia is trying to modernize itself to match against the alien-influenced Empire of Britannia, with hand-held rocket cannons, dreadnoughts and steam carriages.

4) Caliph: Due to the invention of the printing press in Baghdad on 796 A.D., and the subsequent awakening of an Islamic scientific and industrial revolution, now jump forward to 1684 A.D., 1684 A.D., the radical secluarists allied with the expansionistic empire of Hind have launched a global war against the Muslim Caliphates with godlike energies and insane mobility being the rule of the battlefield. Zaghawi Associates, this worldline's dominant space corporation and the only known constructor of the Djinn (A.I.s) responded by severing ties with Earth, declaring its an independent Caliphate and continuing its communications with an alien species by building a stargate on trans-Neptunian orbit.

5) Azzul's Earth: Gunning down a 42,000 year old Hyperborian Nercomancer wasn't such a bad idea at first, but ask King Philip II of Spain and he'll say its a very bad idea. By the laws of similarity, and probably the will of the demon gods of Hyperboria as well, the dead rose all across the world and very few could stop them.

6) Leviathan: On this Earth, the human race is fighting a losing war against an interdimensional, undersea civilization known as the 'A'Nthleloi, or Atlanteans. Britian and France, alongside the other kingdoms of Europe are long gone. Andrew Jackson is the chief commander of the military government of the United States, or what's left of it. Napolean Bonaparte has declared an "Empire of the Sands" deep in the Sahara, leading an army of Zouvaes, Bedouin and Tuareg with a hard core of French Veterans under "Sands of Africa" Murat. Surprisingly, the Russians managed to survive in the form of a few columns of armies, Cossacks and monks deep in the steppes; the Chinese are warlords on the fringes of Tien Shan and the Himalayas. On the matter of the Atlanteans, they have hauled water tanks in position, blasting out resevoir craters with odd-colored radiance and putting human slaves to work digging canals into the interior.

Primus, Part 5

(Yes it had typing errors.)

September, 1865: A history book of Damocles makes it way to many book stores. It will be the basis for some problems in the near future, but until then, it is a best seller. Also, the 5512 tons of ocean water are collected from the Atlantic Ocean, and taken back to Damocles.

October, 1865: On Damocles, Maddox-Prime, the Coordinator of Consolidated San Fransico, builds a mark 2 style Janus Engine, and opens a portal to a world that she at first thinks is Primus. After a few scouts are sent through, it is found to be a duplicate of Primus. The main diviation is found to be that Victoria died in 1861, and the King of England is now Albert-Victor I. In the wake of this discovery, Maddox-Prime calls in Addison-Prime, the British Otherworlds Company, and the British Government. It is decided to make contact with the world, dubbed, Secondus.

November 1, 1865: The Cormorant, with Babbage, Brunel, Addison-Delta, Bramwell-Beta, Geyus Megnas, Zovral, and William Gladstone, as a representative for the Crown. Before the Cormorant traveled to Secondus, a satellite was sent through first. The Cormorant appeared over the North Atlantic, and cloaked itself. It then traveled to London. A 12:01 GMT, it decloaked over Parliment. After causing a general stur, they land in St. James Park, were they are met by a contingent of Bobbies, and some of the Royal Guard. There is a bit of a panic when the authorites thought that William Gladstone hade been kidnapped, until it was found that he was at Parliment, and when they saw Zovral. A few hours later, the group was ushered into a specially called combined session of Parliment. Some thought it was a trick, until they saw Brunel, whose counter part had been dead since 1859; a younger Babbage beside an older version; the two Gladstones; but the capper was when Zovral addressed the room. Addison-Delta brought a holo-projector, and used it to illustrate their story. In one of the fastest votes in Parliment History, they agree to ally themselves with the British Government of Primus, Damocles, and charter the British Otherworlds Company.

Late 1865: Pamphlets on contraception and prevention of STD's are being circulated amoungst the prostitutes of London, and their male customers. Some shop owners start making discreet inquiries into gaining supplies of latex condoms, and diaphrams. Some doctors are requesting supplies of penicillin and other antibiotics. Many medical schools are also requesting medical texts and information on disease control. There are also a few requests from Secondus.

Early 1866: Copies of the history of women's sufferage on Damocles make the rounds of the British Empire and the United States. It leads to a series of protests in London, New York, Boston, and other cities in the US and Great Britian. A unoffical, and informal untied effort of most of the women in Great Britian gets the matter brought up in Parliment, and limited sufferage is passed in late 1866. Women, over the age of 21, have the same voting rights as men, but only in local elections. Similar laws are passed in most of the Empire, by 1870. It takes another fifteen years for Universal Suffferage to come about in the British Empire. Similar events come to pass in Secondus, though there is more resistance, almost to the point of asking the British Empire of Primus of leave, and take all their goodies with them. Similar laws are passed in the British Empire of Secondus by 1875. Limited women's sufferage is in place in the US by 1880 in both Primus & Secondus.

January, 1866: The sewer and water improvements to Xanadu-Above-the-Clouds are finished. By the end of January, the power improvements are also in place.

Feburary, 1866: The Hotel Brendan, built with Damocles componets, and Primus appointments, opens its doors. By March, it is booked to the rafters until mid-1867.

March, 1866: The Hotel Lancaster, built along similar lines, near Woodbridge, and the Rendalshem Campus, is opened. Along with two inns, and a couple of bording houses. By mid-April, it is booked to the rafters.

April, 1866: The distant village of Quall's Reach makes an alliance with Xanadu-Above-the-Clouds. They are the first two members of the Noneth Confederation. The Triumvirate contract with Addison-Prime and the British Government to build the five hundred miles of railroad to the village.

May, 1866: Prince Albert, from Secondus, whose health is not good, goes to Damocles to have regen therapy. Later, he goes to the Hotel Brendan. While their, he meets Prince Bertie, from Primus. After a little shock on Bertie's part, and confusion on Albert's, they become friends. Over the period of the next month, they spend much alot of time in each other's company. Albert learned of what happened to his counter-part, Bertie learned of what happened to his mother's counterpart, and of how the Bertie, of Secondus has been the king of Great Britian for the last five years. They decide that Victoria of Primus needs to meet Albert of Secondus. They both decide that they need to talk to King Albert Edward, to straighten every thing out.

June, 1866: The Great Western Railway orders a series of hydrogen fuel cells from Consolidated London. They have plans to use them as power plants for their trains. They also buy a series of hydrogen plants to keep the trains suppied with power. The audience between Prince Bertie, Prince Albert, and King Albert Edward takes place. It is decided that Victoria, of Primus, should meet Albert, of Secondus.

July 12, 1866: Prince Albert, of Secondus, meets Queen Victoria, of Primus, at Balmoral. They almost immediately hit it off. Over the course of the next week, a fire that had gone out of both of them is rekindled. After a series of closed talks, at the Chrysler Building on Damocles, between the governments of Britan Secondus and Britian Primus, a marriage is arranged. Albert and Victoria will have two marriage ceremonies; one for Primus and one for Secondus. During these meetings, King Albert Victor drops a bombshell. He wants to abdicate in favor of his new step-mother. Suffisive to say, this causes some upheaval. Addison-Prime decides to but in, and he comes up with a solution, to combine the two Empires. Since both are very similar, why not become a interdimensional country. The Combined British Empire comes into being. Further more, he also comes up with another idea. Why not name Albert and Victoria Emperor and Empress. Addison-Prime also comes up with another idea, he'll retro-fit a futuristic means of communication between the two Parliments. (He put in a suite of all manner of communication devices, and a gate between the two Parliments. He also wires both Parliments with electricity and decated green & brown power cells.)

Primus Part 6 (with typos)

August, 1866: Victoria goes to Damocles to undergo regen therapy. The government is still in a bit of chaos while the two Parliments settle into new routines. A few of the engines for the Great Western arrive, and are put into service.The two Parliments become offically known as the Grand Parliment of the Combined British Empire. A group

September, 1866: Richard Francis Burton of Primus and Secondus are both called into Parliment. They are both asked if they wish to be named as Consuls-General to Xanadu-Above-the-Clouds. Burton of Primus accepts, but Burton of Secondus decides that he would rather explore Eden. The Grand Parliment names Burton of Primus as Consul General to Xanadu, and Burton of Secondus outfits an expedition to travel Eden. A group of about 5000 American Confederates, from Primus, travel to England, and thus to Eden. 3000 from Secondus have the same idea. (They will be heard from again.)

October, 1866: On Damocles, a series of minor accidents and sabotage are found around the Recieving Room in Consolidated Manhattan. Whatever is tearing up equipment and supplies has only been seen on survialence footage as a blur. The creature is captured in mid November. It is found to be a black skinned, Saurian humanoid with down-like hair. A message is sent to Eden, and a contingent of composed of Mae'Saun and Chusae arrive. It is not one of them. The creature, who calls itself Sarg, is higly excitable and scared. With the help of some academics from Primus it is found that the creature is speaking a variation of Manx Gealic. Speakers are brought in from Primus and Secondus. After a period of weeks, the creature opens up, it turns out to be a goblin, from another dimension. It also turns out that Sarg is the equivalent of a young teenager, and female. She wants to know why the wizard will not let her go, and why he brought her to this strange, skyless world. Addisons-Beta, -Gamma, and -Delta come to speak with her, and she quiets down. She wishes to go into the service of the Wizard Addison, but she also wishes to go home. The Addisons promise to try.

Late December, 1866/Early January, 1867: After weeks of trying various setting, and with the help of Sarg, the world that will become known as Tirnanog is found.

January 14, 1867: The Norris Expedition, as the combined Primus and Secondus immigrants called themselves, after their leader, William H. Norris, leaves Xanadu. By September they will have reached their destination, the other side of the Spine Back mountains, some 500 miles south of Xanadu, there they will build the first of three towns, New Richmond. They also make friends with one tribe in the area, the Urden, who are modern humans. By doing this, they end-up gaining some enemies, the Gorda, a race of evolved Hiedlbergensis. After fifteen years of warfare, the remaining Gorda end-up as slaves in the New Confederacy, and in later years they make slave of Chusae tribes that live on the southern end of Nova Partha.

Feburary, 1867: With plans, stolen from the Rendalshem Complex, the French Government build the first of many attempts at a Janus Engine. The base is built in the environs of Gevaudan. When they power it up, the first world they find is a burnt out cinder, and second just happens to open near the city of Cibola, the capitol of the Empire of El Dororado. At first, a troop of Jaguar Warriors set up what looks like a cannon, and fired at the gate. The projectile hit the Janus Engine, and it was destroyed, along with the complex that housed it. Luckily, the plans were saved, and the project is begun anew, but it will take until 1870 to get it up an running.

March, 1867: A bill to give Ireland Dominion Status passes in the Grand Parliment.

April, 1867: Using knowledge gained from the history of Damocles, the Boer Relocation Bill is passed in the Grand Parliment. The Crown will pay anyone of Boer extraction 2000 pounds to relocate to Eden. By June of 1867, 2500 Boers on Primus, and 3000 on Secondus have signed up for the program. By 1869, nealy 10,000 in total have relocated to Eden. Most of them find their way to the region that will be called the New Confederacy.

July, 1867: The Indian Reorganization Bill is passed, narrowly, by the Grand Parliment. One the the provisions of the bill was the incorporation of the Princely States of India into the House of Lords. The British holdings on the Sub-continent are folded into the Dominion of India. With the help of Addison-Prime, a new complex is built for the Indian Branch of the Grand Parliment, and is was connected via satellite and portal to the Grand Parliment. (This was for the India on Primus and the Indis on Secondus.)

August, 1867: Addsion-Prime finds the world that will be called Tirnanog. The portal opens up near Castle Mournwell, the seat of the local arisocrat, Marcus Ai, who also happens to be a moderately powerful wizard. The name of the country is Braetannia, and the continent is Magonia. It turns out that Sarg's clan works for the Ai family.

Things from Damocles

Fusion Suprise: A piece of clarktech, built from plans fround on Mars. Its a AA battery sized device that can make the all of the air, in a square mile, ignite. It was adapted from a piece to tech made for terraforming.

Smart Goo: A swarm of various nanotech decives programmed to act like the ultimate locust swarm. Unlike Grey Goo, Smart Goo can be programmed to stop, and do other jops instead of just convert.

Robin Goodfellow: An intelligent computer virus that was sent after Addison-Prime in 2095, during the Second Ideological War. Addison-Prime put it into a cage paradigm that had been built using an old porn site in the Omninet. After a subjective time to two years, the virus found away to contact Addison-Prime and asked him to give it a male body.

Milestones & Important dates of Damocles (Part One)

2008: The first Quantum Computer, the Imperator, comes on line. The first "bucky" composites come into use.

2009: Lab grown beef comes on the market. By 2012, most households and fast food use the Off the Hoof brand.

2010: A break though in the treatment of diabetes with stem cells. There is an uproar within the Christian community when there is a rumor that the treatment uses embryonic stem cells. The first use of artifical wombs. The commerical brown and green power cells come on the market, much to the chagrin of "Big Oil".

2011: The First War of Ideology breaks out in the US. It lasts until 2015. An internal terrorist group, the Hand of God attempts to destablize the US government, and put in a Theocratic government. It later found out that the Prophet is the popular cyber-evangelist, Robert Patterson. It later found out that several corporations had been backing him.

2012: The first true nanotechnology comes into use, as diagnostic devices for medical treatments.

2015: The first, viable genetic manipulation of adult and post utero subjects.

2017: The first moreaus come on the scene. Constuction begins on Skydock, the first perminent space habitat.

2020: The first genetic recombinates come on the scene. The lauch of the Omninet when TV, radio, telephones, and the Internet are totally fused into one infrastructure. In England, at the age of 94, Elizabeth II becomes only the second monarch of England to abdicate the throne. She does it for reasons of health. Prince Charles takes the throne, and becomes Charles III.

2021: The first phase of Skydock is finished, and construction of the Ares Intersystem Traveler is begun.

Late 2022: The Ares Traveler takes off for Mars. It will take seven months for the ship to reach its destination.

2023: Three weeks after the Pegasus Lander touches down on the Martian surface, near Olympus Mons, scans find that the mountain is hollow. A small group of explorers head off into the mountain. There they meet the Digital Lifeform that later takes the name Zeus. On Zeus' invitation, the expedition moves into the mountain. He also offers to outfit the Ares with an inertia dampner and a hydrogen accumlator. Zeus also make contact with Mission Control, and introduces itself. It also makes contact with all of the nations of Earth, and offers its services to build ships; terraform Mars and Venus; and build orbital habitats.

Here are a couple of meetings.

1) August 12th, 1867: George Armstrong Custer of Primus and George Armstrong Custer of Secondus meet in at Rendalshem. They do not hit it off, and both end-up shooting and killing each other.

2) May 17th, 1866: The two versions of Charles Dickens meet, and become goog friends. After a period of friendship, they decide to become writing partners. They also take a trip to Damocles to have regen therapy, and immuno-inhancers. They go on to write many books, and their joint readings of A Christmas Carol make them even more famous. To avoid confusion, they take a cue from the rulers of Damocles, and start calling themselves Dickens-Beta and Dickens-Gamma. They considered the Charles Dickens of Damocles, who was long dead, to be Dickens-Alpha.

September, 1867: The Primus versions of Joseph Leidy and Edward Drinker Cope orgainize an expedition of Eden to study that world's version of the dinosaurs. Cope is the field leader, while Leidy stays at University of Pennsylvania.

Octobers, 1867: A meeting of what will become the first North American Indian Caucus, takes place, at a location, unknown to the US governemt, in the Great Plains. The chairman of Consolidated Toronto, Leonard Parker, who was of Iroquois ancestry, had been working since 1865 to make it happen. Members of various tribes from both Primus and Secondus attended. They decide to move to Eden. After stories of Eden made their way to the tribes, the Hopi started to think that perhaps Eden was Third World of their mythology. This belief became part of the Third World Movement, one of the groups behind the Caucus. The first Caucus was set up as a means to create general peace treaty between all of the tribes represented. Parker-Gamma, with the the help of guides from the Noneth Tribe, found a place on Eden, that no one claimed, a region far to the west, called the Sea of Grass.

November, 1867: The Primus and Secondus versions of Othniel Charles Marsh organize an expedition to Eden. This will be the start of the Eden Wars, a series of expeditions to catalog the dinosaurs of Eden. They are able to higher the Secondus version of David Livingstone to lead their expedition.

From now on, I going to talk about incidents, instead of a timeline.

Many of the people of Damocles discovered Primus and Secondus, and from 1866 on they start to come as tourists. They are not allowed to carry weaponry from Damocles, but they are allowed to bring cameras and recording equipment, as long as it is descrete. Usually as pens and acessories, and with a safe guard that liquifies the components if they are stolen. The strange thing is, pickpockets and the like leave Damocles tourists alone. When you get chased by a person that can move faster then you, and leap over walls, word gets around. Tourism was almost stopped in 1869 after what is now called the "Piccadilly Incident".

A young woman, by the name Theresa Baker, who was from Mars, was accosted by a young swell named Pauly Higgins. Pauly got more then a little fresh, and she decked him. Pauly, whose pride would not let him be hit by a little bit of nothing, and was an aspiring boxer, hit back. He didn't relize, at first, that Theresa had a few modifications. Her bone structure had been reenforced by carbon nano-tubes to make it nye unbreakable, and her musculature had also been modified to make her stronger. She was also a practioner of Crav-Maga. She beat the shit out of Pauly, and a few of his mates saw this. They joined in, the crowds gathered, and bets where placed. Eventually, the Peelers where called, and there was almost a riot. In the process of breaking up the crowd, Theresa put two Peelers in the hospital, and wounded a few more. She later became the stuff of stories and songs. Good old Pauly, he was the butt a few jokes, but he ended up okay, if you didn't count his squished nose. In the end, the Metropolitan Police didn't know whether to put her in prison, or add her to the payrole. Though, they did start to trane their Peelers in self defense. And Theresa, she got sent back to Damolces, and was punished by her parents, as she was only 16 years old at the time. She was also banned for ten years from ever traveling to Primus.
