The title is your best friend, read it. Do I need to say any more? Just kidding, however, what if World War III breaks out? What do you think would happen and what countries would start/get involved and how long should it take? I'm sorry if there are countless/other threads like this, just say the magic word and I will sulk off in shame, capisce? However, according to the website, www.threeworldwars.com, the hypothetical starting date of WWIII is March 20, 2003 with the US-led invasion of Iraq and for the fact that Israel, North Korea, China or possibly Iran are potential initiators of WWIII. Now, I'm just asking for your opinions in this thread. Get it? Got it? Good. Now... post!

Heh!
Would waste all my enemies incl Grodon Brown the English Chancellor who stole over £20K off of me. In the words of the Stranglers [ed talking about Leon Trotsky] he would get "an ice pick that made his ears burn".
Then I would break in to a vet's and get a huge fatal quantity of injectible Ketamine and go and visit Planet K.

Gordon Brown would be hugely insulted to be referred to as "English"

Considering that the only nation with a current ICBM capability of the "Axis of Evil" you will most certainly have North Korea under Kim Il Sung becomg the primary source of troubles. For instance, in an ATL wherein Pyongyang fires a nuclear missile, its targets include Tokyo, Japan; Seoul, South Korea; Honolulu, Hawaii; and even the possibility of Los Angeles, California. I am in the most important technological hotspot in the world. The San Francisco Bay Area. If a 100 megaton basement bomb went off here, I wouldn't feel a thing.

Several possibilities:
- When international forces fought against Serbia (around 1990, 1993 or so), the Russians made a fast move to occupy a strategic Serbian airport. The US wanted to be there first, but didn't have troops ready to be deployed within hours. The British did have the troops but refused, saying they didn't want to start WWIII. WI Russians and British arrive at the same time, one of the soldiers (doesn't matter which side) does something stupid, and a battle erupts? The Russians considered Yugoslavia their sphere of influence at that time and might be pretty defiant.
- When tensions between Pakistan and India increased shortly after both sides tested their nuclear bombs, I was really afraid they'd start using each others territory as testing ground. A few hundred nukes would probably have caused the fallout of a few hundred Chernobyls. If the war stays limited to those two countries.
- Not to forget all the hawks on both sides of the iron curtain who'd have liked a "few" losses to get rid of the other side.
- Some rogue nation is "tamed", but manages to deploy some WMD in that process.
- A religious fanatic gets the bomb and uses it - I don't only mean muslims by that. Someone who believes in any final judgement about to be coming up is equally suspect imo.
As to the consequences:
- No nuclear bombs, but masses of conventional forces: Everything in the path of any force is destroyed, and some more. Losses to humans are limited - no more than 50% of the world, but in some areas up to 95%. The West wins or achieves a favorable peace - anyway which year.
- A few bombs, but mostly conventional: Same as above, and some fallout causing the people in badly hit or poor areas a choice between starving and glowing intestines. The West wins, if united. The losses might be lower, as one side probably gives up or looses quickly.
- A lot of bombs, some conventional fighting. Same as above, but the whole body glows for nearly everyone (i. e., masses of people die of cancer). Some people will survive even in the worst hit areas. 50%-80% die of war or after-effects. The less hit areas will collect the remains.
- Masses of bombs. The involved parties make sure there is no neutrality of a single isle on the planet, so that no third party wins. 80% to 100% of humanity dies of war or aftereffects, especially as climate interruptions come to above mentioned problems. If at all, some military command structures will probably be the new governments of the few survivers for some time.

What do you mean.. Repopulate the ashes over several hundred (and possibly even thousand) years? :p
